Just like the leading ladies of the book I had a good time with this one. Story was about four friends in their late thirties, on a cruise vacationing. It was a time when some found true love, others mend their friendship, and few secrets were revealed. And everyone got their happy ending too.

Song for summary: One Life by Hedley
What a delightful read! The characters are bruised, relatable, and warm; while the plot is a nice, light-hearted journey that explores the ups and downs of rediscovering one’s self. This was a fun and entertaining novel, and I will be sure to keep a look out for more Milly Johnson books!

Now, I know there are those of you who'd rather have needles in your eyes than read something like this... but you'll be missing such a treat. I found this book sheer enjoyment from beginning to end - four strong female characters living to the full their cruising experience, getting away from their everyday lives with varying results. The cruising experience is spot on, from the couples who share your dinner table through the trips to shore and the tuneless celebratory serenade in the dining room. There's a dashing captain, a Cornish Viking, an obnoxious soap star. a dashing celebrity chef, a Greek ex-lover with more than a dash of the Tom Contis, and a touch of magic with the elderly couple celebrating their anniversary and dancing on the deck by night. Like all Milly Johnson's books, the humour's there throughout, with sparkling conversation and wicked observations - but so is the sadness, pathos and personal challenges to overcome. I loved every moment - chick lit lovers, don't miss this one whatever you do!

Fabulous fun! Great story, loved the characters, definitely not realistic but great, good fun.
This was my first Milly Johnson book and it only improves with multiple re-readings. Her writing style is similar to Debbie Johnson’s “Comfort Food Cafe” series with quirky characters, great supportive friends, and hunky but sensitive men.

This is my second Milly Johnson book and again I was not disappointed. She has a fantastic style! It's so cosy to settle down to reading one of her books and enjoy where I takes you. This cruise filled fun opened my eyes to cruise life. Also, how much food is constantly consumed! Lol.
The friends and their back stories were so moreish I loved it! Each chapter was so much fun and by the end I shed mini tears. This is a very sweet, meaningful and beautiful story that was exactly what I was looking for from this Author. I can't wait to read more.

Rereading on audible 11/23, finished 11/19/23.
I still feel the same about this book, finished on Audible read by Christine Prendergast. On this read, Milly's love for cruising really shines through! It makes it seem like heaven on earth. There is so much food porn! another thing I noticed was her penchant for over-the-top similes and metaphors which are amusing if eye-rolling. Near the end, which is why I remember it, She describes the handsome Captain of the Ship in his dress whites as making Richard Gere look like Quasimodo. Really Milly? Oh well. She is one author that can almost do no wrong in my book.

I struggled between giving 4 or 5 stars on this one. Although on the whole, it is up to Milly Johnson’s high bar as far as humor, romance, and character development, I had a few minor problems with it. In order for the reader to have the pleasure and satisfaction of seeing her heroines escape from misery, have an emotional journey, and ultimately triumph, Milly goes a little over the top with two of her characters, Olive and Roz.
Poor Olive is living such a horrific life at the beginning that I did turn against her for a while for putting up with the abuse. She is basically working as worse than a slave to her evil and disgusting husband and Mother-in-Law and will not leave them. Worse than a slave because, since she is still being charged rent, she is paying for the privilege of being abused. She would have a better life out on the street than the one she is living, but stubbornly resists all of her friends' advice to escape. I don’t care how her needy parents molded her attitudes, there is just no justification for her being such a weakling. However, the scene where Olive finally sees the light and escapes is a gem. I loved it.
As for Roz, she is so unlikeable and such a b*tch to her wonderful guy that you almost hate him for putting up with her. When Roz is finally told off by Olive of all people and she has her epiphany (another stand up and cheer moment) the arc of her story flags a bit. This is before the halfway point. That she never calls Manus, her ever-patient and loving boyfriend to make amends is ridiculous. Milly tends to sort out at least one of her heroines pretty quickly in her books, to focus concentration on the remaining members of the group. This is actually one of the things I like about her plots.
I loved how we got peeks back into how Olive’s and Roz’s family and boyfriend were faring without them. However, the fate of Olive’s family and the changes for the better that they go through are not credible at all. Total personality transplant as far as the Mother-in-Law is concerned. Olive's disgusting husband improves for the better, and we are not 100% sure Olive will have the gumption to dump him at the end. But when he tells her about their new life and what he expects her to do, we realize he hasn't changed all that much after all, and Olive will follow her heart and "do a Shirley Valentine."
Despite my quibbles with some of the plotting and characterizations, I thoroughly enjoyed this joyful and satisfying read. There's a lot to love about this book that I didn't even mention like the other passengers on the cruise and the little supernatural element. And I am definitely going to be watching the movie Shirley Valentine this week.

I really liked this book until I got two thirds in and then it became a bit predictable and long winded. The story line with the "old couple" was unnecessary and added extra pages to a book that was already too long.
The author tries to build interest by hinting at things throughout the book but, for me at least, the first hint was enough to give it all away. I found I was then annoyed with some of the characters for being dumb.
None of the characters are stand-out and I didn't particularly care what happened to them in the end. It's not that any of them are unpleasant or even badly written - they just kind of dwindled in my interest part way through. To be honest, the best writing is reserved for the scenery and the food - this book made me hungry and want to go on a cruise!
It doesn't really deserve 3 stars but it was better than 2 and I couldn't give it 2 and a half!

It is hard to believe that this time last year I hadn’t read any of Milly Johnsons books. I have now just finished reading my third Milly book and she is flying up to my top 10 authors!
Here Come the Girls was a fantastic price on the Kindle sale so I clicked to get my copy quickly and I finished the book in little over a day, I think it could have been quicker if I wasn’t trying to prevent it from ending!
This book follows a fabulous group of four ladies who have been friends since school. When Ven tells the girls she has won an all-expense paid cruise for them all it doesn’t take much for them to all jump on-board!
Each of the girls are loveable characters in their own way. They all have completely different characteristics which was great as they were easy to tell apart and they also brought something individual to the storyline.
My favourite character had to be Olive, she was a very down to earth gentle and vulnerable character who you prayed would find her happy ending.
It was quite unusual for their not to be a main character. Each of the Ladies stories were told in great detail there wasn’t any character who we felt like we didn’t get to know well I loved this about the book.
Milly Johnson writes beautifully and manages to engage the reader into the storyline from the word go. You always know there are secrets hidden in her writing but you can never predict when she will choose to reveal them. I love this spontaneous feel.
Milly not only manages to create 4 great female characters but she brings so many other characters into the storyline, again each who have their own little story behind them. I have never read a book with so many full bodied characters.
Milly has quite clearly done her homework on cruises and the locations mentioned in the book. With most of the storyline being set aboard the ship or on a trip the descriptive writing really gives you the perfect backdrop to the story.
This is yet another superb read from Milly Johnson, I really didn’t want this one to end.

Milly Johnson can create male characters that make me sigh, really sigh. I adored Manus, Vaughan, and Nigel - they were heroes worth the best romances (to all romances writers: learn from the best!). Like often with Mrs. Johnson's books, I would have loved to see more of these men, more scenes with them, their thought, etc. Still, I am happy that I met them.
Her second strong point is that her characters aren't young (here around forty and older), they have their own baggage, but they still fell in love, make mistakes, sometimes behave like teenagers. It makes me feel that I am not some freak, that one can be thirty, forty, fifty years old and still feel and behave young.
The third - the wit.
The fourth - some wise message I can always find in her books.
I thought that stories of Roz and Olive - their psychological issues and problems with their partners - were great. (Although, I had some reservations - mostly the same like Rebekah.) Frankie's and Van's stories were mostly only in the past - I didn't experience/feel them as much. The four women were the amazing bases for the novel. But, in the end, I haven't enjoyed it as much as others. Mostly, because I was so not involved in the whole cruise. I don't know why, because I myself would like to have such a vacation. So, I skimmed some parts (I skimmed Milly Johnson's book! Unbelievable).
So, I am giving the book only 3 stars. Mentioned guys were 5-stars-heroes, the wit made me smile and laugh, but it was not enough this time.

I started this book straight after finishing 'A Summer Fling' and 'A Spring Affair', and loved this one as much as the others. Every time Milly Johnson creates characters that you really care about, and I definitely kept wanting to keep reading, just to find out what happened to the ladies in this story.
I could really picture the cruise ship in my head as Milly described the settings so well.
I finished this book feeling happy, and lighthearted. I am always so hooked into Milly's books, and always feel good after reading them. I would definitely recommend any of her books to read, I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed.

Yes, well, I suppose I really ought to change book genres for a while: after three Milly Johnsons I've got the formula and could almost write one myself!
Don't get me wrong... It was a nice easy read, the characters are funny, and the happy-ever-after ending makes you feel good, even if you did see it coming from 40 thousand miles away. So it's just the sort of thing you need for a long queue, beach, plane flight or hospital stay. Putdownable, painless and very enjoyable!

Absolutely brilliant read, witty, heart rending and compulsive reading. Read this in one go, an absolute necessity to live and breath with the characters on their cruise of a lifetime . Definitely have to read all Milly Johnson's other books now

I thought I'd try something else. I love chick-lit, though I don't read it often, but ... this wasn't for me. It's about women in their 40s, unhappy with their husbands, having to live with their mother in law, complaining about the cleaning they had to do... As a 20 year old college student I'm probably not the audience the author had in mind. So it's a dnf for me.

Four friends in their late 30s go on a cruise ship vacationing. Some find love, some mend friendships. It’s an easy read, without too much drama. Some might find it boring, but at the moment it was exactly what I was looking for.

Milly Johnson knows how to write a funny and power encouraging chick-lit book. There was one part in the book that I couldn't stop laughing (it has to do with farts, and yes, I am immature). She has a formula and it's working. First, we start with the main characters as these sad, pitiful women who are or have been screwed by men. Then they rediscover themselves and learn to enjoy their life. Finally, they gain the power and we cheer and root for them. It works well because Milly is a talented writer.
If you want to read an easy and light-hearted book, then read one of Milly's. But, if you are looking for a book to impress people or to have a thought provoking read, then her books are not for you.

Ven, Roz, Olive y Frankie son amigas desde hace 25 años, pero ninguna tiene la vida que esperaba, es más, son bastante desdichadas y hace tiempo que dejaron de disfrutar de ella. Además Roz y Frankie hace 4 años que no se ven a pesar de haber sido las mejores amigas.
Ven va a cumplir los 40 y parece que la suerte ha decidido sonreírle, ganando un viaje para 4 en un crucero. Decidida a recordar las viejas promesas y sueños, y a que su amistad vuelva a ser como antaño, decide celebrarlo invitando a sus amigas. Y lo que en lo que en principio parecía un viaje en el que se iban a aburrir, se convierte en el mejor viaje de sus vidas: buena comida, compañía y lugares increíbles. Pero no es lo único, ya que el viaje les mostrara la importancia de la amistad, del amor, de sus prioridades y les ayudara a redescubrirse a si mismas y ver lo que importa en la vida.
Una historia que a mi me ha enganchado y que a pesar de los clichés, me ha resultado muy entretenida con momentos muy divertidos y alguno dramático, donde prima la amistad; con unas protagonistas realistas llenas de defectos, que las hacen muy humanas.

This is my first novel by Milly Johnson and will not be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Very easy reading and I did not want to put it down, or for the story to end. I loved the storyline following of the 4 girls from teens to adulthood, giving a true to life account of their experiences through their early life into their forties and their ups and downs.
Coming from Barnsley i did enjoy the occasional reference to Barnsley - I thought it was so funny in places and could not stop laughing. Having also been on a cruise I could also relate to life on board. I think "The Yorkshire Pudding Club" will be my next book.........will download tonight!

Milly hits every note again, I have to say i loved this book from the begining to end! Every page and every chanracter keeps you hooked with the rise and fall of feelings and issues around them. The different countries that the girls visit are discribed in such a way that the reader could almost feel they are there. The peak views of what is happening at the girls homes keeps the pace of home alive while not taking the reader away from the main action to distract them.
Milly Johnson is one author who never fails to deliver to the readers and with her Yorkshire humor it is a delightful package that you would be nuts to miss.

I have read previous Milly Johnson books, but have to say I won't be going to read one again in a hurry, and if I do read one it will be from the library.This had funny moments, but it was too posh for me especially names like Venice and Rosalind and Frankie and olive! I was told there was a big twist at the end but I didn't see it as a twist because at the end I thought, was that it? I'm pleased to see the end of this book. The book did make me want to go on a cruise.

Another excellent read by this author. Light read but not too light. Very funny in parts. Recommend this author if you haven't read her. All this nice stuff said and me Lancashire born and bred.

This was a nice and pleasant chick-lit. I wasn't really attached to the characters. The strongest thing I felt was sympathy for Manus. I felt so bad for him. I just wanted him to leave and find better pasture elsewhere. More than anything else, I wanted Roz to win him back. I didn't feel like she did. She just realized her mistakes and it was fortunate for her that he was still there waiting.
The story revolves around four women. Ven won the lottery and decided to take her friends on a cruise. She spent money on them under the guise of winning a contest. She decided to split the money with them but was just waiting for the right time.
Each of the women have problems. Ven was cheated out of her inheritance by her cheating husband who ran off with her cousin. Olivia was working as a house slave by her husband and her in laws. Roz' marriage was deteriorating and she can't be kind to her husband. He confessed that he shared a kiss with Frankie. The reason was Frankie was just diagnosed with cancer and she needed comfort. She was looking for Roz. However, Roz just had a fight with Manus and left. Manus was there and he was nice and she kissed him. Manus pushed her away but he ended up telling Roz about it. Roz had a history of being cheated on and replied with coldness. She closed herself off her husband and cut her friend off. She didn't know about the context so she wasn't too fond of seeing Frankie in the cruise.
During the cruise, they meet men, gain perspective, and come back with a more hopeful life. Roz experiences a sizzling moment with somebody and sympathizes with Manus. Ven meets a sea captain she wants to spend time with. Frankie meets another cancer survivor. Olivia realizes how poorly she has been treated. She met up with an old fling briefly. He waits for her.
Olivia's history of being treated poorly caused her to normalize that behaviour. However, seeing her husband again and realizing that she isn't willing to sacrifice love again for life with him, she decides to leave and go to her old lover.
The sea captain met up with Ven.
Roz wants to fix things with her husband.
Frankie is staying with her new lover.

Baştan sona zevk aldığımı söylemek isterdim. Maalesef sıkıldığım yerler oldu. Gemideki yemek kısımları daha az, onun yerine uğradıkları ülkeleri daha fazla anlatılabilirdi. Yemek sahnelerini çokluğu hikayenin gereksiz uzamasına sebep olmuş. Ayrıca beni çok acıktırdı.

the story is about four women who have been friends for almost all of their lives. they have always dreamt of going on a cruise for their 40th birthday. one of them decides to trick the others and ends up getting them to go on this vacation. none of them are overly excited with their lives and our midst a divorce or separation. each woman comes into her own on this vacation and you get to see them find happiness by stepping outside of their comfort zone.

Another fabulous read
Only my second book by Molly Johnson, and again it was fab. Loved the characters and the story. Couldn't put it down at times and couldn't wait to get to the end. Looking forward to reading more.
