I'm afraid I can't answer that because my values are not his. Nor, I suppose, yours. I find them irrelevant to adult fiction.

I do declare that, if the story had been actively pornographic or so laden with taboo words as to become notable--values I do consider relevant--I would have noticed (and been astonished, because McKillip does neither). But I did not. (less)
