ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - One Atlanta group is helping young Black athletes take steps toward their future.

The Athlete’s Foot hosted a Historically Black College and University national signing day Saturday.

High school basketball players had the opportunity to sign on with HBCUs to continue playing basketball in college.

Organizers say it made sense for elite athletes to choose bigger schools in the past, but now money can be made anywhere.

“With the [name, image and likeness deals], with the athletes being able to be paid now, you can really go wherever and make an opportunity for yourself. And hopefully HBCUs become even more sought after when you think about kids signing to schools, Fitness First Marketing Agency CEO Jahi Rawlings said.

Four basketball stars signed letters of intent: two to Clark Atlanta, one to Morehouse College and another to North Carolina A&T.
