I just downloaded this app. I didn't see very many positive reviews, but thought i would try it anyway. I am so glad that I did! The picture was clear (about as clear as it is on my laptop), the sound is good quality, and there is an option for cc (captions during the show). There are two negatives about this app. 1) there is no 10 second back button like there is on the abc website. I find this really helpful when watching my shows in case i miss something small. 2) there are soooooo many commercials (I have not seen a show on live TV- so I don't know if there are more commercials when you stream online). I guess it doesn't bother me because in exchange I am able to watch my favorite shows whenever I have a chance instead of being locked into a scheduled time. There are just as many commercials through this app as there are when you stream online through the website. I guess its not too big of a deal.

In general:
Positives:
-Love the display and sound quality
-Easy to use
-So far, no problems with crashing, glitches, or bugs (lets hope it stays this way)
-Several options for TV shows and news programs (I wish they had options to view old seasons though- :( it's a bummer that you can't)
-Can use captions!

Negatives:
-There is no option to rewind at 10 second periods like streaming online allows you
-A lot of commercials (but it's free sooooo i shouldn't complain)

I used to love this app. As a college student who doesn't have a tv this was the only way I could keep up with some of my favorite shows but then you went and made it so that we had to prove our cable provider and you still had to suffer through the commercials. Now you've gone and changed the hole layout for the kindle fire app making the change mandatory if you wanted to continue using the app. They called it an update but it's more like a downgrade if you ask me because there are even more glitches then before. It will sometimes log you out of the app half way into a show and most of the time you'll have start back at the beginning and try to find where you left off. I've noticed some of the shows even cut off a few minutes before the show is actually over and you miss the big event that makes you gasp and gets you pumped up for the next episode. The worst part of it all is when the app doesn't even work. You'll be watching a show and half way through, it not only cuts you off but logs you out of the app. No big deal, just one of the normal glitches until you try to log back in and all you get is a big white screen. It may show you the abc logo and the circle loading for a second but then it cuts right back to the white screen. You can't even log back in for at least 12 to 24 hours. This app officially sucks.

I love this application. It does exactly what it says it can do, and no more or less. I really appreciate companies who honestly communicate all functions and limitations to their applications. If I know what it cannot do up front, I then can decide how I can solve that particular challenge in another way.

The one drawback to most of the broadcaster applications is they are limited by rules to broadcast shows live, on their application. For me and my Family, we use DirecTV Now as our broadcaster; however, my plan does not carry ABC for some reason.. thus the cause for trying the ABC application. I was disappointed ABC application would not work for live TV. They need to figure these complications out.

I purchased this for my Kindle Fire HD 8.9. I love this app. It allows me to see my favorite shows whenever it is convenient for me to view them. I would have given it a 5 if not for one issue. Although I do not enjoy the same, thankfully short, commercials over and over again, when the commercial breaks are supposed to come on, they don't. You say what's the problem? well the app also stops and I have to press the done button and click back into the episode I was viewing. Even though they continue where they left off, I would rather sit through the commercials for continuous play.

Other than that I am loving my Kindle Fire.

Update 10/12/14 - I am loving this app a little less these days. This week I was forced to accept the recent update. So what's the problem. You say..... It gonna be better. Right? Well not so much. The new format is great. My previous review complained that the commercials were not working correctly and the app was freezing. That was improved a bit. I just have to wait through the black screen between commercials. Well here comes the BUT while I am watching the program it it kicks me out of the app and I have to go back in again, pick the show I was already watching and then pick the episode again. Eventhough most times it picks up again where it left off. It is very annoying. Update still needs improvements.

I almost ignored this review because the only reason I used the fire stick (that I love) to stream was because of a football game I wanted to watch. ABC is on strike against Direct TV and thought perhaps I could stream through this source. Since Direct is the agent to subscribe it blocks streaming also. Do not waste your time attempting to use if you have Direct TV. On a personal note I seldom waste my time with ABC but out of curiosity I scrolled the online guide for the next week. There was not a single not one program I would watch anyway. Perhaps when Hollywood begins to produce entertainment rather than propaganda I might care. Right now as far as I am concerned Direct TV hold out and do not pay these overpaid pompous arrogant so called Hollywood stars one cent more for the trash they produce and keep our costs at current levels.

Incidentally I have used my fire stick on a couple of occasions to stream CBS and FOX stations in bad weather knocked out the satellite and they worked perfectly. I would recommend you download the ap before spring and have it ready in case of storms. The fire stick is really multi functional.
