Recently, the courtyard at The Gilbert in London was transformed into an after-work haven, thanks to our Activated Aperol & Jazz Night event. At Brookfield we're committed to creating thriving tenant communities where everyone feels inspired and engaged. Thanks to our Activated programme, being a tenant of Brookfield Properties unlocks an entire network of possibilities, for every employee. Through meticulous planning and dedication, we achieved remarkable results. By retaining 90% of the building's materials, we not only minimised waste but also extended the life of this iconic structure. The Gilbert now stands as a testament to our commitment to environmental stewardship. This thoughtful refurbishment not only preserves the past but also ensures relevance for the present and future needs of a dynamic workspace. Constructed in 1930 by Frederick Gould and Giles Gilbert Scott, The Gilbert & One Lackington was originally designed as a Member’s Club. Despite its striking appearance, it was never intended for office use. After a refurbishment in 2001, the buildings remained complex and challenging to restore, with issues such as a neglected central courtyard and messy roof space. However, we believed in the power of re-use and reimagining existing structures. Our vision for The Gilbert was to transform it into a contemporary and future-proofed office space. This involved rationalising the internal organisation, creating standalone buildings focused on well-being and access to external space. By repurposing the servicing courtyard into a vibrant 'Green Heart', this significantly improved circulation and added value to the office space. Today, The Gilbert stands as a testament to our commitment to preserving its charming character while delivering grade A office space comparable to contemporary offerings. Finsbury Circus, situated a short distance away from The Gilbert, stands as a distinctive symbol of London's historical legacy, encapsulating a captivating narrative within its serene surroundings. Established in 1606, it proudly claims the title of London's oldest park, marking its origins as a transformed fen on levelled moorland, complete with elm trees and benches. In 1815, Charles Dance the Younger undertook the responsibility of enhancing the park's botanical appeal, introducing a diverse array of plants, trees, and flowers. Today, Finsbury Circus, recognised with Grade II listing, preserves the timeless charm crafted in 1815, beckoning visitors to experience a leisurely stroll amidst meticulously maintained flower beds and Japanese Pagoda trees. #TheGilbert #FinsburyCircus #CityLiving
