Anyhow, I digress.  Great to share a lunch last week with Daibi Pax-Harry our AWS Operations Manager for Marketplace and Co-Selling with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Tenable invests a good amount of sweat-equity into automating and streamlining our sales motions with AWS. Question - what does H2 2024 and beyond hold in store for us? I have just commented on a post from a CIO who has been looking for work for around 6 months now. Sadly he isn't alone. I have several contacts who I would consider excellent CIOs, and for that matter IT Directors and IT leadership team level leaders, who have been looking for much longer than I would expect for someone of their calibre. The market has been quiet now for a long time. In recent months it seems to have picked up slightly, especially at perm middle management level but perhaps not so much on contract or exec level. However it is possible that we have just got lucky with a couple of clients that have been hiring. My view is that, regardless of your personal political preference, whatever happens at the general election should bring a bounce in the market as a knock on effect from big corporates having 5 years of certainty and therefore being more willing to invest in transformation than we have seen in the last year. Am I seeing what I want to see or do my network agree with me? What do you think H2 of 2024 will bring for us? I'd be fascinated to hear some thoughts and opinions.

Every time I mention the letters G-D-P-R, I can hear people groan. They're based from a good place: UK-GDPR's seven principles are lawfulness, fairness and transparency; purpose limitation; data minimisation; accuracy; storage limitation; integrity and confidentiality (security); and accountability.  Accountability means businesses must document how they handle personal data and regularly review whether it needs to be retained. UK-GDPR's Article 30 states most organisations need to keep records of their data processing, how data is shared and stored, and its purposeful destruction. There's so many benefits to utilising Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions but for SMB/SME organisations, it can be challenging to set up and manage. Identity and Access Management (IAM) has evolved and is critical to maintaining a strong #cybersecurity posture in any organisation. #MSPs generally look to Password managers and MFA as their go to for their IAM controls. But some of the more successful Partners I've seen over the years have got the #SSO part sorted out pretty well. Helping to streamline management for off-boarding and onboarding users. easily managing roles and responsibilities to align with appropriate access to applications and data and more. One of the biggest challenges to adoption has been lack of or limited support of applications that support SSO. I've been on demo's where partners have stated that having SSO support is a non-negotiable and so it should. In my opinion, we SSO needs to be standard across business applications. But realistically we aren't there yet. If you follow the Triple A security framework, SSO helps to manage two of the A's, Authentication and Authorisation. Have you rolled out SSO as standard?

This picture which represents survivorship bias will forever live in my head rent free. It's often my go to food for thought point which focuses on never being satisfied with a Customers current clean environment state, with a focus on thinking of new and innovative ways towards identifying assets which have fallen through the CSOC visibility cracks. Establishing visibility and protection of previously forgotten assets can have immediate and future threat detection and prevention outcomes.

UK public sector could save hundreds of millions of pounds through less restrictive supplier rules on #cloud software #licensing, according to a new report from cross-party #thinktank the Social Market Foundation - 'Clearing the air' says the sector is overspending by about £60m a year due to what it describes as #unfair licensing practices. It estimates the sector could save at least £300m over the next five years. At Pax8 Beyond last week there was one stat during the keynotes that has just stuck in my head: "73% of SMBs have had a cyber attack". I hear this and you can see the room instantly think of security solutions, whereas in my head yes I think to this but I also think of another stat: "SMBs on average use 7 to 10 different vendors for their technology" (I will say in Enterprise this is 20 - 25). Think about the complexity here managing multiple security policies and access controls across multiple platforms, some of these vendors will even have different security protocols leading to further vulnerabilities. How are these users getting information from one system to another? There are so many things to consider here as to WHY 73% of SMBs have had cyber attacks. Those 2 stats have to be linked. Now, yes I'm going to talk Microsoft Dynamics 365, shocking I know. But the advantages here with centralized security, as well as the fact Microsoft keeps these solutions updated to reduce vulnerabilities. Also, streamlining the management with the applications being managed on one platform simplifying user access controls and security policies. I could go on here around data access control, data residency and compliance, secure AI model usage (think about Copilot), but this is just something I wanted to highlight, we see these security stats and think straight about security solutions, but thinking about the bigger picture and not just "putting a bandage on a broken leg" we can really help to solve for so much more and add a lot of value to businesses. Not even just for security here but whilst we're at it helping them grow, be more productive, reach more customers, use AI safely and so much more. Morning Hive Mind, How can I extend the C Drive using the unallocated space as its not adjacent. it is only used for Sage and a Sales Force Automated Flow program, just would like to give C that little bit more space.
