This is your chance to lead and oversee a range of vital activities, including: 🔹 Package Management: Spearhead the entire lifecycle of civil works, from design and planning through to execution and closeout, ensuring that all phases are completed to the highest standards. 🔹 Contract Management: Draft, negotiate, and manage contracts with civil contractors and suppliers.     Whilst reflecting on Global TA Day, a little Poem inspired by the love hate relation between TA and Recruitment Consultants 😁 Talent Acquisition, sleek and grand, A visionary with all things planned. "Strategic hires! The future's bright!" Said Talent, basking in the light. But here comes the Consultant, sharp and sly, With a list of candidates piled high. "Forget your strategy, take a peek— These résumés? They're truly chic!" "Oh please," said Talent, rolling eyes, "Your short-term thinking, not so wise. I’m building pipelines, mapping trends, Not shuffling through my LinkedIn friends." The Consultant scoffed, "Well, that's quite sweet. But I find talent on the street! Quick placements, top-tier picks, You take years, I do it in six." "Six what? Six months? Six endless weeks? Your candidates can't even speak!" Talent huffed, "You lack my scope. It's long-term value, not quick hope!" "But my hires start tomorrow—fact!" The Consultant smugly shot right back. "They're already onboarded, working away, While your dream hires start... someday." And so they bicker, like siblings do, Each convinced they hold the clue. Talent talks strategy, the Consultant’s on speed, Both chasing the elusive "Perfect Fit" breed.     📢 "We recognize the need for more women in leadership, but we're struggling to attract and retain them" Sound familiar? I had a similar conversation with a Solar Developer in Europe facing this challenge. HR: Deji, thanks for your email. We've been discussing diversification and thought you might have insights. We just need to hire more women and people from diverse backgrounds, right? Deji: That’s a start, but it’s more complex than checking boxes. HR: What do you mean? Deji: Diversity isn’t just about hiring. It’s about the culture and environment you create. For example, do you offer good maternity leave, or are we telling new moms, “Good luck, see you in six weeks”? HR: We have some maternity leave… Deji: And what about social events? Are they always centered around alcohol? That can feel exclusive. HR: So, it’s about ensuring everyone feels included? Deji: Exactly. It’s about creating an environment where everyone feels like they belong. That includes fair policies and inclusive social events. HR: What else should we consider? Deji: Are we supporting career growth and paying fairly across genders and ethnicities? What about mentorship opportunities? HR: This is more involved than I thought. I just needed to hire more women… Deji: It’s about fostering a culture of inclusion, which benefits both people and business. A diverse team drives innovation. HR: You’ve convinced me. We need to reassess our policies and culture. Any final tips? Deji: Remember, diversity is an ongoing effort. It’s about continually listening, learning, and adapting. HR: Got it. Inclusive culture, fair policies, no more exclusive events. Deji: You’ve got it.     Who doesn't like a glass of Wine? ......... Finding suitable land for solar development can be one of the most challenging hurdles in the renewable energy sector. Its probably one of the biggest challenges my clients across all of Europe are having. There isn't a week when one of our clients says: "FIND ME LAND SCOUTS, WE NEED LAND" The competition is fierce, and the right locations are often scarce. At EWI, we pride ourselves on thinking outside the box to deliver results for our clients, even in the most challenging situations. Our client faced this exact challenge. Instead of going down the usual path, we identified a Business Development Executive with a strong background in the wine industry. How do you connect Wine and Solar PV? (Drinking Wine in Sun doesn't count) ..... Basically this candidate had extensive experience and a well-established network for securing land, which could be seamlessly flipped to meet the needs of solar projects. 12 Month later our client is 25% up on Land secured compared to the previous 12 months. Hoping to see the client in a few months for a Glass of Wine to celebrate the successful Partnership! 🍷 Sometimes, it’s about seeing the potential where others don’t. By leveraging unconventional solutions and cross-industry expertise, we were able to provide our client with a unique advantage in their solar development efforts.     ON THE RAILS #2 As we prepare for 🚄 InnoTrans 2024 🚄 we take a look at "Impacts on Global Talent" 🚉 The global rail industry has seemed to EWI for some time to be navigating a complex talent landscape marked by both opportunity and challenge. Rapid infrastructure expansion, alongside the development of advanced rail systems, is fuelling an unprecedented demand for skilled professionals in engineering, project management, and digital technologies. However, the industry is grappling with a significant talent shortage 🤼 exacerbated by a shrinking ex-pat workforce and the increasing complexity of modern rail projects. 🚉 A major challenge in addressing this shortage is the difficulty of cross-border talent migration 🎟 . As rail projects scale up globally, countries are increasingly competing for the same pool of skilled professionals. Stricter immigration policies and regulatory barriers make it difficult and more expensive for companies to easily bring in the expertise needed from other countries. 🚉 Compounding this issue is the growing efforts of countries "localizing" their workforces. Governments in regions such as the Middle East, Asia, and Africa are increasingly mandating the use of local labour and prioritizing workforce development initiatives to reduce dependence on foreign talent 🛑 While this policy of localization aims to stimulate local economies and build long-term expertise within the country, it poses a significant challenge for rail construction & engineering companies that rely on highly specialized, internationally sourced skills. This shift can often slow down project execution and increase operational costs. Through its aerial view on talent, EWI has seen a shrinking of the ex-pat industry over the past 10 years with a narrowing of designated foreign specialisms on projects with most mega-projects.
