Learn the basics of how the first amendment is embedded in the very nature of what a library is and what librarians do each day. Presenters will share information on recent case law, legal precedence, and how to check your policies to make sure you and your library are protecting the first amendment rights of the community you serve.

Legislative Advocacy Essentials: Understanding the Impact of Proposed Legislation on Libraries
This is the second of three interactive, virtual discussions in a series hosted by the TLA Legislative Committee which are designed to help build TLA members’ capacity as legislative advocates. This session will focus on tools and resources to help you understand the impact of proposed legislation on libraries to gain confidence in answering questions about a bill. Join us for this opportunity to connect with and learn from fellow TLA members. Registration closes October 22 at 5pm, and space is limited to the first 100 registrants. This session will focus on what to do when you receive a call to action from TLA asking you to contact your legislator on a particular issue.
