You may well find yourself spelling NCIS O-M-G after watching the action-packed Season 22 trailer that TVLine exclusively obtained from CBS Monday. With a turncoat on the loose among the agents, time is of the essence to root out the loose cannon before they, ahem, fire.
Or, as Gary Cole’s Parker puts it, “We’ve gotta stop that mole without starting a war.”
No mean feat, huh? Elsewhere in the tense teaser, Wilmer Valderrama’s Torres is called upon to do the unthinkable. “If you want me to kill one of my own,” he says, “I need a good reason.”
The clip isn’t just a sneak peek of what’s to come, though. It also contains not one but two Easter eggs for NCIS fans. The song “Stand Up” that plays in the background opens with the melody of the show’s theme song. That’s the obvious Easter egg.
The far trickier-to-find one can be heard in the pre-chorus, which references the late, great David “Ducky” McCallum’s 1968 jazz song “The Edge.” (Decades later, the number was turned into “The Next Episode” hit by Dr. Dre and incoming Voice coach Snoop Dogg.)
When the powers that be began working on the Season 22 trailer, they retained to compose “Stand Up” America’s Got Talent vets Black Gryph0n (aka Gabriel and Nathanael Brown), who leaned heavily on the idea of the NCIS team as family in writing the lyrics. The Navy-veteran brothers who make up the act also intended there to be a double meaning to the lines “no time to react” and “the night’s returning” — since Katrina Law’s Knight is leaving to accept her position as Chief REACT Training Officer at Camp Pendleton and, as CBS explains, “Jessica Knight’s returning to NCIS DC.” (Hear the song in full here.)
NCIS kicks off Season 22 on Monday, Oct. 14, at 8/7c. To watch the trailer — and listen for those Easter eggs — press PLAY on the video at the top of this article.
So where’s the video? There is literally nothing there to click on.

…watched it anyway
It really makes me laugh how they geo block trailers. Also, the forget VPNs exist.
It’s the deal TVLine makes with the distributors, network or license holders to include the videos on their site.
With the geo-blocking, they fullfll the requirement to restrict the viewing to the US. So they did their due dilligence.
Of course a lot of people know abou VPNs. But that’s out of TVLine’s hands.
Using a VPN is technically a breach of the license by the user.
To be clear, no “deal” is made; the YouTube link is supplied by studio. Any geoblocking is set on studio’s end. –Mgmt.
The fact that CBS blocks trailers in certain countries in 2024 is at least laughable.
Hard to believe that 22 years in NCIS shows no signs of slowing down. Will have to watch the trailer again (and again and again) just to catch everything going on here. Can it be October already?
What is all the talk about “Easter Eggs”?
An easter egg is a little hint or reference placed in a piece of media as a treat or hint for fans. It used to be mainly hidden videos or bloopers in DVD menus (such as the rubber duck army in the Troy DVD menu), so the term ‘easter egg’ was adopted in reference to the easter egg hunt, where ‘Easter Bunny’ hides eggs for people to find on Easter Sunday. The term now encapsulates things like this, where lyrics hint at events in upcoming episodes, the set dressing may contain images or items that refer to other episodes or actor trivia or other kinds of shoutouts.
The video is not available in my location so I can’t explain what the easter eggs here are more than the article does, unfortunately, although I do wonder sometimes whether the term has expanded a bit much.
Hope it’s either Torres or Knight. I never liked Torres since he showed up and after what Knight did to Jimmy baiting him along for two season slowly injecting herself into his and his daughters lives and not even bothering to tell her daddy about him because he wasn’t part of her plan she can be this ‘teased casualty’ for all I care or if she dose come back to DC Jimmy will be with someone who appreciates him. Looking forward to Parker and who Lily is to him and for once I’d like to see McGee have a story that doesn’t involve his family for once.
I was just about to post the same thing. Haven’t been a fan of WV since That 70s Show, or of KL since her Hallmark days. I miss Emily W.
I wonder why she took the react team job. Was she on a secret mission? Is she the mole? Or pretending to draw out the real mole? What is Torres deal? I thought he was over his ex-flame… or is she the one betraying NCIS for her top-secret gov’t employees. Question without foundations but well warranted since the clues were too broad to decern anyone character being the one dying. I can see Torres leaving to be with his love or going back into the cold. I wonder if something from his past while undercover is coming back to haunt him to death. October is not coming soon enough but I can wait. I want this season to last. I just wish they go back to 24 episodes over the new 22. CBS and Paramount know this is worth the extra cost of one to two more. They have a solid team so why kill one member now. Ratings? Nah! It’s all about the show and it’s legacy. Got to keep the viewers on the edge of their seats. Remember Kate’s shocking death from Season two finale? Yeah! We see you great TV in the constant making NCIS.
Trailer looks good, NCIS trying to get out of its formulaic weekly case, but it always tends to come down crushing in a cheesy way. I will watch!
Trailers are looking good for both NCIS and NCIS:ORIGINS. Looking forward to seeing both series as well as new Matlock.
We might get some good viewing this season HOPEFULLY
