So maybe we are crying. What of it? As you’ll see when you check out the trailer for Heartstopper Season 3 that Netflix dropped on Tuesday, there’s every reason to turn on the waterworks.
Not only is Charlie’s mental-health struggle taking a toll on him, it’s utterly devastating Boyfriend of the Millennium Nick. But as the latter is reminded by his aunt (new cast member Hayley Atwell), he can still be there for his significant other. “Standing together even when it’s hard… That’s love, darling.”
Boy, does poor Nick know it.
In other developments, Tao and Elle’s attempt to get physical triggers her dysphoria, Isaac appears to have been cast in the role of third wheel, and like fellow sixth-former Nick, Tara is feeling the pressure of basically deciding her whole future.
At least it looks like Charlie gets enough of a handle on his issues to enjoy some very intimate time with Nick. (Should we thank guest star Jonathan Bailey for the inspiration?)
Though the Emmy-winning LGBTQ+ romance is going deeper than ever before in Season 3 (streaming as of Thursday, Oct. 3), creator Alice Oseman promises TVLine that there is light at the end of the tunnel. “That’s sort of what Heartstopper is about. These characters go through dark periods, but Heartstopper assures you that things are going to be all right in the end.”
Grab the tissues, then press PLAY on the trailer at the top of this post to check it out. (I’ve screened all of Season 3, and it still got me… big time!)
They need to announce Season 4 right now! They need to tell the whole story :)
