In its second week of release on Netflix, Prison Break more than doubled its minutes viewed to leap four spots to the No. 1 position on Nielsen’s latest overall U.S. streaming ranking.
For the week of Aug. 5, Prison Break (which now streams on both Netflix and Hulu) racked up 1.6 billion minutes viewed across its 90-episode library, besting Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy on Nielsen’s overcall ranking. Bluey (on Disney+), Grey’s Anatomy (Netflix/Hulu) and House of the Dragon (935 million minutes viewed on Max) round out that Top 5.
Over on Nielsen’s ranking of streaming originals, The Umbrella Academy with the release of its final season dominated with nearly 1.5 billion minutes viewed across 37 episodes. It was followed by Netflix’s A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (578 million minutes viewed), Prime Video’s The Boys (457 million minutes viewed), Love Island (437 million minutes viewed across Peacock, Netflix and Hulu) and Evil (413 million minutes viewed on Netflix and Paramount+).
Rounding out the Top 10 originals for the week of Aug. 5 were Netflix’s Gabby’s Dollhouse, Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries (2020), Hulu’s Futurama, Netflix’s Cobra Kai and Netflix’s Love of My Life 🤷🏻♂️.

Here’s hoping Prison Break will get another reboot. With the success of it streaming right now maybe? That’s what happened to Suits.
But I know Wentworth Miller had said he doesn’t want to this type of work anymore. Totally his choice and I respect his decision. But if some streaming network decides it wants to try a reboot and throws a ton of money at him then maybe?! Who knows.
I watched Prison Break now 3 different times. When it aired back in the day 2x on streaming. I bought it digitally on Amazon also. It is one of my favorite shows of all time. So I’m hoping for a miracle and it gets rebooted with the original cast. Again I know long shot
“I respect his decision but also hope he sells out”
Ummm…
I mean, if I was you I’d hope they’d just make the character queer. No reason why not, plenty of people figure things out later in life, and it doesn’t invalidate past relationships or anything.
Wentworth Miller asked to be killed off the original show because he didn’t want to be in any further revivals/reboots. They still made a revival a few years back and he still partook (in all fairness that’s on him because he probably needed the money since his career never took off post-Break due to his bad decision-making), still, I doubt he’ll go back to doing it now. I can’t imagine he wants to become like the former Brady cast where they kept reprising their former roles up till adulthood. He wants to move on. If they ever do another go at this show, they’ll probably make it a hard reboot with a new premise and different cast.
I loved the show when it first came out but season 1 was lightning in a bottle and it pretty much went downhill after season 1 and became unwatchable by season 3.
I am surprised Umbrella Academy is doing as well as it is… I figured those wanting to watch would have quickly and then there would be a huge drop in interest. I was a bit disappointed in the final season arc.
Evil would probably be a #1 contender if Netflix had all 50 episodes, as opposed to just the first 26.
Shows have made it to the chart with less than 10 episode. Face it, if those 26 eps can not get traction on Netflix where it is available for 200 million people it clearly does not have much appeal beyond it’s loud, but small famnbase.
Season 4 of the Umbrella Academy was awful. They turned Diego and Luther into clowns. Angry Ben was so annoying and was Allison was still. And where did 5 go, the best character in the series through season 3, cause he wasn’t in the season. They replaced him with some blah guy. Klaus was the closest thing to his prior self but he was also wasted in this season. Meh. So disappointed.
Totally Agree with you on this. 100% Agree. I was so disappointed with this final season. And to be honest Season 3 was a little better than Season 4 but not by much. Seasons 1 & 2 were my favorites by far.
I’m also surprised how well season 4 is doing. In my opinion it really wasn’t good at all. I started doing other things in the background while it was on just so I could burn these episodes off and say I watched them.
