Yellowstone Season 6 Shocker: The Show Will Go On With Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser (Report)

Yellowstone may not be getting put out to pasture after all. Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount Network hit, which was cancelled following its Season 5A finale back in May 2023, will instead be continuing on with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser taking over from Kevin Costner as the series’ leads, Puck reports.
According to the industry newsletter, OG cast members Reilly and Hauser, who were rumored (but never confirmed) to be in talks to reprise their roles of newlyweds Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler on spinoff The Madison, are closing deals to remain with the mothership. TVLine has reached out to Paramount Network for comment.
Confused? It’s understandable. For almost a year, Yellowstone’s Season 5B (which kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 8/7c), has been touted by the network as the neo-Western’s “final installment.” In March of 2024, Reilly played her cards close to the vest about what might come next. “There are discussions, you know. Don’t believe everything you read. It’s just nonsense.”
Three months later, Costner confirmed on social media that “I’m not going to be able to continue, Season 5B or into the future.”
You’ll recall that way back in January 2023, the Season 5A finale (recapped here) left Costner’s John plotting with Beth to rub out Jamie, the treacherous black sheep of the family. At the same time, Jamie was scheming with girlfriend Sarah to have a fatal accident befall his father and sister.

This is great and welcome news! Reilly and Hauser are Yellowstone as far as we are concerned.
Why not both sides swallow their pride and continue with costner? Everybody wins. The audience and sheridan admit it is worth saving.
Do you really think Paramount or Sheridan wants to deal with Costner ? Or the rest of the cast that got caught in the middle of it? The only one with motivation for that is Costner, who just had his biggest flop since Waterworld….
Paramount is changing hands with a new boss now so have enough internal problem. Why not wait until Costner is done with his projects, Horizon part 2 and possible part 3 and then maybe they can talk again? Yellowstone is going to be a big franchise anyway. They can bring him back from the death in the future or flashback.

Hoping this is true! Taylor Sheridan REALLY messed this one up & finding a way to carry on would at least partly make up for his shortcomings.

The worst thing about YS is the on again off again when will they won’t they be on air. We will watch if they show anything. Re runs wearing thin along with hypes pos and neg.
This is the most logical conclusion.
There were the rumors they were asking for an insane $1.5M per episode to take part in the streaming spinoff, something that no show could afford.
Let them lead Yellowstone for one more year and then let the offshoots do their own thing with relatively fresh casts.

I thought this whole shell game with ending Yellowstone early and moving on to spinoffs was all about two things: Losing Kevin Costner – because apparently he and Sheridan do not get along, and losing the Peacock streaming deal, because the Yellowstone deal with them was made before Paramount + existed.
They succeeded at forcing Costner out, but as long as Yellowstone continues as a series, I would assume they still have to stream it on Peacock. Even though the spinoffs are on Paramount +.
That said, I’ll probably keep watching for Trainwreck Beth. We all love her down here in Hell!

Rip is my favourite character, I’m in, I’ll watch.
Costner was treated awful by that show and thrown under the bus. Without him on it, I doubt that the next season will be successful.
