Cold Case Reboot Not Moving Forward at CBS
The trail has gone cold on a Cold Case reboot, which is no longer in the works at CBS.
According to our sister site Deadline, the Eye Network is not moving forward with a new iteration of its 2003-2010 crime procedural, which was reportedly in the works as of this past April.
Reps for CBS and Warner Bros. Television did not immediately respond to TVLine’s request for comment.
The original Cold Case ran for seven seasons on CBS, following a division of the Philadelphia Police Department that specialized in investigating unsolved criminal cases. Kathryn Morris starred as homicide detective Lilly Rush, with Danny Pino, John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, Thom Barry and Tracie Thoms rounding out the main ensemble.
Details of CBS’ potential reboot were scarce, but the follow-up would have been set in the Southwest instead of Philadelphia, centering on a new group of detectives dedicated to solving cold cases. Original Cold Case creator Meredith Stiehm was reportedly attached to write the script and serve as an executive producer.

There you go again CBS. THE Cancel Broadcast Station…All the good shows get canceled like Blue Bloods, SWAT, So Help Me Todd, just to name a few!
Lots of shows at all networks get optioned and not picked up. And they ran that Blue Bloods show for 14 seasons??? What are you complaining about?
Jane is right. Blue blood 14 seasons (how many shows on any network have that many seasons?) SWAT uncancelled and running an eighth season this fall. And technically, cold case didn’t get cancelled. There was no season 1.
Yes, Blue blood got 14 seasons, 8 more than it deserved. Do the viewers show any gratitude for that? Nope.
Uhh this show wasn’t cancelled it just wasn’t picked up to series?

I agree with you on blue bloods should have been on longer One of the best on Friday nights If they wanted to end it it should have had a full season this season and ended in May not December.
And so help me Todd should have been picked up That was a good show too.

Very disappointed to hear that CBS is dropping the Cold Case reboot!!! The original was awesome but different from all the other police dramas . I think it would’ve been great to have it in their lineup.

I’ve loathed how CBS has become Procedural Central over the last 25 years, but Cold Case was the ONE procedural show I actually liked. I thought a reboot was a great idea. I hope it gets picked up somewhere else.

I don’t think any sadder words have ever been written in the history of our civilization. I will keep my fellow viewer in my prayers, and hope that somehow we can all move on with the tattered shreds of our lives.
I was looking forward to a reboot. Cold Case is one of my favorite shows. I liked the back and forth from past and present. The music was always good too. Sad 😢
That’s a shame, Cold Case was one of the best shows on during that time period. Maybe they are doing it wrong? Rather than trying to pick up where they left off why not have Lillie’s daughter or niece come in wanting to continue the work her mother was so famous for? Perhaps a few of the old cast members come in as special guests but other than that have a whole new cast? Oh well, try a rewrite and see what happens then.

I am disappointed that Cold Case won’t be coming back. I’m not a big fan of procedurals. If I don’t feel well and want something that I can watch and not pay a ton of attention to, they work fine. I’ve watched a few of the long running ones in my time and usually drop at some point. Cold Case was different. The use of music, the focus on the victims, who were more than just a body found in scene one was a great draw. The superb choice of music also did a great job of setting the time period, telling me about the victim and all the suspects. The last scene usually brought me to tears, because if FELT for the people involved and there was a real sense that the crime did have ripples and affected the world, or at least the world of the victim, their friends and family and often the killer as well.
Maybe the complexity of the premise was too much for CBS to handle. More likely is they looked a licensing fees to get good music and decided that pushed the price too high. In any case, I’m really sad that Cold Case did not get a second chance. At least we still have the original episodes, which still move me and still make me cry.
Very well said! I really enjoyed this show as well and I loved hearing the period music for the various cases over the years it was on the air.

I loved the show and would have preferred a TV movie for closure of the original series instead of a reboot but I’m not disappointed really as 90% of reboots aren’t nearly as good as the original.
If there to be any reboot, I would love to see some of the original cast members reprising their roles

I loved Cold Case. Although I have seen episodes over and over, the stories still get to me. CBS had a winner of a procedural there.
Good. We don’t need another Procedural. We want Comedy!
I would love some comedy too but unfortunately everybody is too busy watching their “p’s and q’s” that comedies aren’t funny anymore. Reality shows are clogging up prime time. I watched Cold Case and now I watch the reruns. It’s a great show.
