Those savory Reagan family dinners are — eventually — coming to an end.
CBS‘ Blue Bloods will wrap its run with its upcoming 14th season, Deadline reports.
On the bright side? The family/cop drama’s final, 18-episode shift will be spread out across two batches of episodes — 10 airing in Spring 2024 (starting Friday, Feb, 16), and the final eight landing next fall.
Blue Bloods last season averaged 9.4 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), down just a tick from its previous averages (9.8 mil/0.8). Out of the 13 dramas that CBS aired during the 2022-23 TV season, it ranked No. 3 in audience (behind only NCIS and FBI) and tied for third in the demo (behind FBI and Fire Country).
“Blue Bloods will forever be a beloved part of CBS’ legacy,” Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment and David Stapf, president of CBS Studios, said in a joint statement. “We’ll be forever grateful to the legendary Leonard Goldberg for developing this signature series and to the amazing cast led by Tom Selleck, who America embraced as family and watched as welcomed guests at the Reagan dinner table. We also sincerely thank the incredible writing and producing teams guided by executive producer Kevin Wade, for years of compelling episodes as they conceive this final chapter that we expect to be the most satisfying season yet for our loyal viewers.”
Added Selleck himself, “For the past 13 years it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family. Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes. Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their steadfast support and we offer heartfelt gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night.”
Showrunner Kevin Wade said, “Blue Bloods will leave behind an enduring legacy that was collectively achieved by our extraordinary cast, our talented and tirelessly inventive writers, and the best crew in the business…. We look forward to giving fans an exciting and emotionally satisfying final season, and we are forever grateful for their enthusiasm and loyalty over all these years.”
Blue Bloods is my only “can’t miss” show. I hope they leave all of the surrounding characters intact for the last season. I would hate to lose Maria and Anthony.
One of the best shows on TV. Wish I had a family like the Reagan’s. I will miss Sunday night dinner with the whole family at the table, especially Grandpa. But, all good things come to an end . Thanks and my best to everyone who helped make this wonderful show.
P.S. Tom, how bout some Jesse Stone stories. Loved them all!! ❤
What sad news 😢! I was hoping it would go as long as NCIS, GA and LAO etc…I’ve never missed an episode. Felt like one of the last wholesome family drama. I’m hoping one day it can be rebooted or a spin off. Or a streaming site will pick it up. I Will miss the Reagans.
Now, ABC, please end Grey’s!
This is, and always has been, my favorite show. I will miss all the Reagan family. What will I see Tom Selleck on next?
Loved the show great actor s
14 years is a great run but I’ll still miss it and the cast when they’re gone. It was only a matter of time before it ended as the budget fight this past spring showed CBS was ready to move on even though it’s one of their top performing shows. I’m just glad that they’re announcing it early so they have a chance to script all their final moves before it ends instead of it being rushed.
If you get ION channel it is on all day Wednesday
It’s hard to believe we won’t be seeing this show after this season.
It was 3 in ratings so really don’t upstanding the reason to cancel it
Simple economics. The ratings are just a part of it. After more than a decade, the series is EXTREMELY expensive to produce, from cast salaries to even soundstage rentals.
The regulars agreed to either salary cuts or a reduced episode guarantee to keep the show on.
It could even be No. 1 in ratings, but if it’s too expensive to produce, not making money, it won’t survive.
But the ratings were dropping. Last season, the hit a low of 5.7 million viewers for an April episode. The show was running out of steam, sadly.
Why is it ending? No article has said. One of the best shows on TV.
They couldn’t add another 7 to make it 300 episodes? Will it all be filmed in one go or with a break?
When CBS announced cutbacks for season fourteen and then the writers strike, I was waiting for thus announcement.
My only wish is for all four of Frank’s grandchildren to be on screen together.
Every since Joe was introduced, I’ve been wishing for this.
I want Nicki and the other kids to be there. Also Jack Boyle.
Joe has only been in 14 episodes since he was introduced 3 yrs ago!
You’d think they’d try to stretch it out to 300 episodes just to end on a milestone
As much as I love Blue Bloods, it is time. The writers need to “shake things up” and I’m hoping they do so in the final season. Marriages, retirements, babies, etc.
I just finished binging the whole series a month or so ago. It was a good show but I understand why it’s time to move on. I’m sure the cast is getting expensive.
Who thinks it is a bright side to divide the last 18 episodes into two different seasons? You are insulting your fans. Just show the episodes all together and be done with it.
Hopefully some of the cast will do a spin off. Best show on TV and I have watched every episode so many times. Also Bones and The Mentalist.
No !!!!??
Nice to know how badly fans/viewers are being treated when CBS cancels one of their top rated programs. Will probably switch to watching ABC.
Fans/viewers enjoying the luxury of enjoying 14 seasons of a show when many other successful shows get far less, is being treated badly? It has had a great run.
Do you think that shows on ABC are incapable of being cancelled for various reasons as well?
So who expects FIRE COUNTY’s Spin-off to be announced as a replacement – although I actually expect an existing show to take the 10pm Friday slot. CSI VEGAS might work – sure better than Sunday at 10pm.
One of the top 3 crime shows ever in tv history and the warmest of all.
Maybe we’ll finally get another Jesse Stone movie!
Sorry to see it end but the show has been a little uneven as of late. Still love the show but it had a good run
Hope it ends with Jamie as Commissioner as Frank finally retires. Danny gets promoted to lieutenant and he marris Baez. Erin becomes DA. Jenko is pregnant and stays a cop.
This news breaks my heart. I’ve watched every episode since the beginning and Blue Bloods has been one of the top 5 all time best shows on TV. Don’t understand taking it off as it has such high ratings. If it has to go my great hope is they will let Erin and Jack get back together. Really, really sorry to see it go.
Blue Bloods is my favorite show currently. It is far reaching and is morally superb to anything else out there. I am heartbroken that it will end. It deals with everything in an adult manner. It is one of the few shows I watch and enjoy these days. NCIS is the only other that comes close. I will miss it intensely.
