Buck and Tommy’s relationship has proven to be one of 9-1-1‘s most exciting developments in recent memory, so fans are understandably eager to see what the future holds for the new couple. And who better to grill Tommy about his feelings for Buck than the show’s only other established same-sex pairing?
ABC has shared a deleted scene from the season’s penultimate episode, which finds Hen and Karen confronting Tommy at the 118’s Medal of Valor ceremony. Following a brief misunderstanding about cake, they ask him point-blank whether his intentions with Buck are “honorable.”
“We are taking it very slow,” he tells the protective mama bears. “In fact, I’m letting him set the pace and I’m just trying to keep up.”
Watch the trio’s deleted interaction below:
After making sporadic appearances over the years, Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) returned to 9-1-1 in Season 7 to help rescue Bobby and Athena from their nightmare of a honeymoon cruise. Tommy and Buck (Oliver Stark) had their first kiss on April 4, launching an exciting new journey for the fan-favorite first responder.
“There have been crumbs for years and years,” Stark told TVLine of Buck realizing and accepting that he’s bisexual. “If you look back … I think that the thread is there throughout. So coming to this moment now is really exciting and deserved and earned.”
Three days after their first kiss aired, Stark clapped back at “fans” who took issue with Buck’s bisexual awakening, making himself loud and clear in an Instagram story: “If one other character finding a new facet to his sexuality and [realizing] his bisexuality is your deal breaker, I fear you’ve missed the entire point of the show,” he wrote on April 7. “You are not required to announce your departure.”
After a disastrous first date, Tommy accepted Buck’s invitation to Maddie’s wedding, where they inadvertently revealed their relationship to the rest of the 118 by way of a smoky kiss. More kisses are sure to come when 9-1-1 returns for Season 8 this fall.

😊❤
I can’t tell if this is supposed to be a cute scene or a warning. Tommy seems (and has always seemed to me) blasé about Buck, to the point where you wonder how much he really even likes him. I don’t know if it’s the actor’s limitations or intentional, but I’ve been scratching my head about the relationship since it developed. Also Hen and Karen don’t seem very impressed with him either.
Agree. It’s cool to see people discovering sexuality later in life being represented on TV but I don’t like this guy for Buck at all
A warning?! In what reality are you watching this show?? lol. Everything about this deleted scene was pure comedy. Tommy is an adult gay man from Los Angeles who has a dark sense of humor with deadpan delivery. He’s written very specifically and it’s exactly what LFJ is serving. Maybe it’s just writing that’s not catered directly to you and that’s why you’re not connecting with it.
I think some people just don’t connect with *dry humor.* Which is fine, but reading it as disinterest simply is not (in my opinion) what the writers were aiming for.
To me it’s a warning. he cares about Buck very little if at all beyond the physical. And why would Buck care about him is a mystery to me as well.
I think it’s intentional. But also Lou doesn’t seem to be trying much.
Does it reveal Tommy’s intentions? He just avoided answering their questions. I really wanted to like him but every opportunity they have had to show he could be a good partner, he cracks a bad joke instead. What a waste.
Except the main takeaway of this scene is that he’s respecting Buck’s boundaries and letting him set the pace? It’s fine to dislike Tommy but this weird determination from a portion of the segment to willfully misinterpret scenes he’s in is bizarre.
Buddie stans are all blatantly obtuse.
.
I absolutely adore Buck and Tommy! 🪻
Glad you guys posted this too! This was so fun, Hen and Karen were clearly not taking it that seriously and Tommy responded perfectly 🩷
I do get why it was deleted though, the Buck and Bobby scene later pretty much said the same thing (that Tommy is good for him) but it was much more important to the overall episode. Can’t wait to (hopefully? Please?) get more BuckTommy in s8!
Downvote my comment and all the positive ones all you want Buddies! Still isn’t happening :)
Hopefully it will be a threesome
Sigh for someone who is suppose to care about Buck, Tommy sure as hell acts like a total jerk towards Buck. Anyways i‘m glad this scene got deleted in the first place, because all Tommy does is making awful sex jokes that insults myself as a bisexual person. If this is how the 911 writing room is going to continue with Buck‘s bisexual story, well then you can keep it 911. I‘m not interested in watching this. Oliver Stark deserves better than this. In fact the more i learn from Tommy and his mob squad bad pr fans the more i cannot stand this character and hope to never see him on this show ever again. I‘m 200% done with this character.
Thank u well said it’s like every thing is sex for him and it pure crap buck deserve to be with Eddie and some looser tommy and writers we have enough disappointment buck need some one to have his back not some to joke sex
I’m sorry but are you still pretending like Buck didn’t 1000% initiate sexy daddy talk time? Stop infantilizing this grown ass man.
You mean like the scene where he asked Buck if he was ok? Or where he assured him that he didn’t want to pressure Buck? Or in this scene, where the main takeaway is that he’s respecting his boundaries and letting him set the pace? Like…don’t like Tommy as a character, fine. But this bizarro world misreading of the scenes he’s in just comes across as massively disingenuous.
Just like OS said, there’s zero need to announce your departure.
are we watching the same show?
I’m a late comer to 911 and just started watching it a few months ago and I’m loving this show and all the characters. Buck coming out as Bi really fits for his character and has been a joy (even the awkward parts). Buck and Tommy have great chemistry and I can’t wait to see more next season!

One time wasn’t enough to say it but you had to post it again using a different name? Huh.
lol well thanks for bumping the numbers of replies and views on this post because that’s all anyone actually cares about
Sorry…I quit watching the show..
like oliver said, no need to announce your departure! lmao!
First, the lead video never appeared after many minutes of buffering. The second one showed immediately.
Secondly, I am so tired of ‘who practices what kind of sex(uality)’. We all know the variations exist in real life and sure it’s fine to display the choices in TV shows. My objection is that there is so much reality on so-called entertainment shows that the plotlines get buried in the ‘politcally correct’ scripts. Don’t get invested in the romance, or lack thereof, at the expense of the weeks’ story. All producers should just back off or at least discuss who gets to do the ‘juicy stuff’ this week.
You are right. I really didn’t need to see that Bobby and Athena are doing firefighter roleplay, or fall right into bed after their cruise disaster. I also think Maddie and Chimney shouldn’t have gotten married, it’s so 1990. And don’t get me started on every scene with Buck and his previous girlfriends. It was all very unnecessary to show that. I mean we know people engage in romance and sex, but do we really need to see that in a so-called entertainment show?
The only reason I am replying back to you is, I don’t care who Buck kisses. I am very, very, tired of the Politically Correct Police going back thru reruns of shows and bleeping out what they think is inappropriate. TV Program “Friends” is a good example.
Loving the development of their relationship so far. Tommy has showing up when Buck wants him to, and you can tell he really likes Buck. Loved when he showed up for their wedding date even after fighting fires all night.
This scene was cute, and I like that Tommy is taking it slow and letting Buck set the pace.
That’s exactly what I said. It was Tommy showing up at the wedding that solidified it for me. I’m a huge fan of Buck and having someone show up for him. Soot, fire uniform and all was awesome! I want more of them in S8.
Totally funny and light- hearted scene. Great acting by Aisha, Tracie and Lou
I love this pairing! Excited to see more. To me, Tommy’s deflections AND Hen and Karen’s questions were teasing – they have a pre-existing friendship – and a bit of “Buck’s a grown man and we’re doing great ok byeeeeee.”
They were definitely teasing Tommy and not really ‘grilling’ him. I really like this pairing more than I thought I would since I am a huge Buck/Eddie shipper.
Such a nice article!! I love the positivity that BuckTommy has brought to our TVs. I can’t be more happy with it, especially this funny deleted scene between HenRen and Tommy. I hope to see much more! Thank you for the article, I loved it!❤️🥰
Absolutely love this scene! We get to see more of Tommy’s dry sense of humor and we can see Hen and Karen being protective, but not in a super serious way. We’ve seen them genuinely upset before and this isn’t it. Its them having a silly “shovel talk” with their friend, who is now dating a man they pretty much see as their younger brother.
I love how Tommy is up front about letting Buck set the pace. But we all know Buck, and Buck does things when and how he wants. He dives into relationships with his whole self, and I love that. And obviously so does Tommy with his “I’m just trying to keep up!” comment.
That was such a fun deleted scene loved getting to see Tommy interact with more characters! I’m also absolutely loving what we’ve gotten of Buck and Tommy and can’t wait to see what they have instore for this amazing pairing in S8 as they flesh out that relationship as well as the character of Tommy who has quickly become a favorite character of mine in the series! Tommy as a character brings such a new interesting dynamic with every single character on this series as well as a great love partner to Buck. Buck and Tommy’s relationship has the potential of being an epic pairing given the chance and I know a lot of fans would love to see that come to fruition in this upcoming season and more in the future!
I just absolutely love Tommy’s sense of humor! Excited to see more of him and Buck in season 8.
For a character who hasn’t even had an hour of screentime, Tommy is an absolute brilliant writing choice for Buck’s first bi partner. I love everything about their dynamic so far and hope to see LFJ go main in season 8!
I can see why this was deleted. I’m trying to like Tommy as a character, but the show really isn’t giving us much and I think it may be deliberate. It doesn’t appear that Hen or Karen are too on board with the relationship either and I’m finding myself in the same boat. I love that we have bi Buck, but I’m starting to think this relationship was always just supposed to enable that discovery. There’s something lacking for sure.
Literally could not be more excited or happy about Buck and Tommy! It feels so different than everyone else and Tommy just… fits. He understands Buck in a way no one else has – he gets his drive as a first responder, understands what comes along with that. And he demonstrated so clearly right away that he will make Buck a priority – showing up covered in soot to the wedding? That’s a man whose love language is showing up for the people he cares about. He ALSO showed us many times that he listens to Buck and cares about doing this right – going slow, no pressure. He shares his own feelings, matches Buck’s vulnerability, and gives the sass as good as he gets. We love a deadpan king! All this to say, I think we’ve finally found the One for Buck and I couldn’t be more excited. I hope so so much we get to see him being happy and settled in his love life after all these years. Bring on the wedding!
I’ve loved this show since day one and have been a Buddie shipper since season 2 BUT whatever crack magic the writers put into Tommy and the episode where he kisses Buck has won me over completely. Rooting so hard for them!!
Love the clip, and i adore bucktommy, hopefully we’ll get more deleted scenes from this episode.
Yay, more Tommy and Henren content! All three of them are champions of sass and snark. Love Hen and Karen, and I always liked Tommy in the flashback episodes. But now I LOVE HIM SOOO MUCH! Really appreciate how he pushes back just a little against Henren being nosy gossips and mama bears, but also how he does reassure them that Buck is in charge. Tommy has become one of my favourites in just a few episodes this season! BuckTommy is fantastic storytelling and queer rep. Kudos to Lou and Oliver, and all the cast and crew. Tim, keep up the good work!
I don’t think he misunderstood the question. I think he was being purposefully obtuse, which we also saw when he told Buck that his father was still alive. I’m of the opinion that the writers think it’s cute, but I think it’s doing the character a disservice because at the moment it seems to be his only defining character trait—if I ignore his past behavior and assume he’s evolved as a human being, which I’m willing to do—just like Taylor’s character trait was ambition. I don’t know, as a viewer, I need more than quips and kisses to make me care about Tommy. I love Buck though and welcome his fictional self to the community.
YESSS to more of their relationship in season 8! Their chemistry is great and it’s been a really lovely relationship so far and it’s so so nice to see characters discovering and exploring their full selves beyond their twenties. As a bi who figured it out in my thirties the arc has been so good to watch.
Estoy emocionada por ver el desarrollo de esta relación. Millones de pensamientos y vibra positiva para ambos y lo que están construyendo juntos.
