Agatha All Along Nudity ‘First’ Was All Kathryn Hahn’s Idea — And a ‘Point of Pride for Us,’ Says EP
The following contains spoilers from the first episode of Agatha All Along, now streaming on Disney+ (along with Episode 2).
That Agatha Harkness is a cheeky one.
The first episode of Agatha All Along, Disney+’s follow-up to WandaVision, found Agnes O’Connor — Agatha’s Westview hex persona — working as a Mare of Easttown-like police detective, investigating the discovery of a dead body.
The deceased, it was clear (by her clothes, the dirt of Eastern European origin found under her nails, and then the toe tag), was none other than Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch, whom Agatha battled in the WandaVision finale (and who later died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness).
That truth started nudging Agatha out of her “Agnes” shell, a process that was hurried along by a fellow LEO (but really, a witch named Rio) played by Aubrey Plaza. Agatha quickly cycled through several of her Westview looks as her true identity resurfaced. She then darted across the street — buck naked, but obstructed by hair and hedges — to confer with her neighbor Herb.
Unclothed Agatha then raced back to her house, this time outright flashing viewers with one of only two bare butt shots ever seen in 16 years of the MCU, the other being Thor’s involuntary, swoon-inducing disrobing in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
The sorceress’ bared bum, even amidst a comedic sequence, not only stands out in the MCU, but surely also is a first for any Disney+ original.
Did Agatha All Along executive producer Jac Schaeffer, who also directed the premiere, need to negotiate the fleeting nudity with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige?
“Yes,” Schaeffer tells TVLine in the video above, though “‘negotiate’ is maybe the wrong word.”
Schaeffer then rewinds a bit to explain how in the original script, Agatha emerged naked from the spell Wanda had cast — “She’s taken all of her performative selves off” — but then grabbed a robe. “And Kathryn [Hahn] came to me and was like, ‘Would Agatha stop to get a robe…? I feel like she would go out there naked.'”
Hahn “was so up for it,” says Schaeffer.
Marvel Studios chief Feige’s initial reaction, meanwhile, was one of “Really?” — but ultimately approval, says Schaeffer.
After all, Schaeffer notes, the scene “is so firmly based in character. It is not exploitative, it is not sexual…. It is about this witch and what her priorities are. And in this moment, she needs answers and she doesn’t care if she’s naked or not. So yeah, it’s a point of pride for us.”

I thought the first episode was a solid B. It didn’t hook me as much. Now the second episode A. That got me into it way more.
I thought it was a clever set-up, a wink at Mare of Easttown/Agnes of Westview. But the second episode really kicked things into gear. I’d say A/A+.
I loved it. Was her son Nicky real or not? Was she a single mother or Mr Scratch was the father to Nicholas and husband to Agatha? The confirmation Dottie‘s daughter got free – as I assume the rest of the children did – that Wanda did die, that Herb and the rest were ok. I look forward to see what’s next
I hope “Agnes of Westview” doesn’t wind up being more compelling than “Agatha All Along.” I was actually digging the AoW vibe. But we’ll see.
This show is off to an amazing start. A+! The music, the production value, the cast, the musical number, naked Kathryn Hahn, Patti Freakin’ Lupone – I am hooked!! Next week can’t come soon enough!
Wow, the sequel to Mare of Easttown is here finally! Agnes, I mean Agatha All Along… I loved it!
I enjoyed it. It’s a great starter for the Halloween season.
I’m sure that this isn’t an original thought, but did anyone else feel like they missed the opportunity to include a deliciously meta Evan Peters cameo in the first half of the premiere? Especially since both WandaVision and Mare of Easttown aired on after the other (on different streamers) in 2021.

I don’t really care much about MCU or what ever this universe is, I’ll only watch it for kathryn hahn.. I wish the first scene would explain who she was, cause I totally didn’t understand.. Won’t bother for the wanda vision too.. The MCU or MSU or what is it, is totally just doing it for the money.. i’m so over it…
Here’s another theory…you aren’t a fan. And that’s fine. And also…what television or movie studio doesn’t do it for the money?
I must have really missed something as I did t realize Wanda died I. That Dr. Strange movie.
The Movie was murky but suggested she died, but most fans didn’t buy it and figured there’s a back door somewhere in the multiverse where she escaped. I personally didn’t like that the movie tried to turn her into the big bad villain. But assumed it was just another bump in the road for the Scarlet Witch.
I just didn’t like that she died like this, same goes for Maria Hill. That doesn’t mean she did die, I just wish it wouldn’t have happened that way.
The premiere was well-written–although I have to wonder why no one mentioned the guy who actually owned Agnes’s house: Ralph. Did he skedaddle after the events of Wandavision? That aside though… the first episode wasn’t as enjoyable as the second. They really nailed the casting of this show because their chemistry is electrifying.
I think it was a bit of a mistake to spend so much time recreating a dull police procedural in the first episode… but things got better once that was over.
