JAG’s David James Elliott and Wynonna Earp’s Melanie Scrofano to Star in Syfy’s Revival
The same week that Wynonna Earp‘s wrap-up special hits Tubi, star Melanie Scrofano books another trippy gig.
Scrofano has joined the cast of Syfy‘s Revival, our sister site Variety reports. She’s joined by David James Elliott, who starred in CBS’ JAG.
The show is an adaptation of the comics series by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, and chronicles how, one day, those who recently died in a rural Wisconsin town suddenly come back to life. “But this is no zombie story,” reads the official logline, “as the ‘revived’ appear and act just like they once were. When local officer and single mother Dana Cypress is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.”
Elliott will play Wayne Cypress, town sheriff. Scrofano will play Dana, his daughter who is about to leave town for good when Revival Day happens and changes her plans.
Also joining the cast are Romy Weltman (Canada’s Backstage, Ginny & Georgia), as the sheriff’s younger daughter Martha “Em” Cypress, whose recurring illness has led to her having a very sheltered life; and Andy McQueen (Mrs. Davis, Outer Banks), as Ibrahim Ramin, a Centers for Disease Control scientist sent to the town to figure out what brought the dead back to life.
Revival has begun production in New Brunswick, Canada. The series was created by Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce, who will serve as showrunners and executive producers.
I feel like there’s already been a show exactly like this?
There was The Returned (French original and American remake) and Resurrection which had the same basic premise of people returning from the dead as not zombies. The execution of this is very different
Glitch?
“Glitch is an Australian supernatural drama television series developed by Tony Ayres and Louise Fox, which is set in the fictional country town of Yoorana, Victoria, and follows seven people who return from the dead in perfect health but with no memory. No one in the town knows why the deceased have returned.”
Am I missing something? Beau Smith and Joyce Chin created Wynonna Earp in 1996 for Image Comics. Other artists followed Chin, but Smith has written most of the stories since then Tim Rozon and Melanie Scrofano have contributed stories as well.

So this is a remake of the ABC show Resurrection (2014)?
There was also a French one that got adapted with Jeremy Sisto.
The Returned was the American name; it lasted one season on A&E in 2015. The French series was Les Revenants in 2012. Despite the similar timing, ABC’s show was based on a novel. There is an Australian drama Glitch with a similar premise as well.
This comic actually debuted in 2012. Same basic premise, but very different.
That is what I thought of when I read the description was it sounds very similar to Resurrection.
I think tv writers are running out of ideas.

As a fan of the comic, (and *Wynonna Earp*) I’ll definitely try this out.
The comic book, as with most things Tim Seeley writes, was fantastic. Hopefully the SyFy Channel does it justice.
So by the sounds of things they are killing her off on Strange New Worlds if shes taken this on as a lead. That’s the first episode spoilt of the new season.
Her character doesn’t work on the Enterprise. She has another ship. She could still survive and go back to her own ship
I am looking forward seeing David James Elliot again after Jag, so when is the show going to be seen?

So happy to see more news regarding David James Elliott. We accidentally ran into him in April 2018, in which he knew we recognized him; yet, he went out of his way to approach us as his family waited for him to return to their normal routine. An EXCEPTIONAL MAN!
