Thursday’s Legacies wasn’t intended to serve as the CW drama’s “spring finale,” but thanks to the coronavirus crisis (maybe you’ve heard of it?), here we are.
The episode dropped Hope into Josie’s subconscious, a fairytale world where magic is outlawed, little pigs are sexist and the usual rules don’t exactly apply. For example, upon discovering a sleeping Josie in the middle of the woods, Hope refused the pig’s suggestion to wake her with a lip lock. “I know this is a fairytale and all, but a nonconsensual kiss is never the answer,” she replied.
In lieu of a kiss, Hope decided to conquer the darkness threatening Josie’s subconscious the best way she knows how — by kicking its ass. Her first battle was against the Big Bad Wolf, who gobbled up Hope’s piggy sidekick before she slayed the beast via an axe to the back. Then came a few surprises: After cutting the pig out of the wolf’s belly, we learned that he was actually Josie in disguise. “I can’t have someone else get hurt because of me,” she said, urging Hope to flee her subconscious. But it was too late; Dark Josie infiltrated her own mind in the form of a Once Upon a Time-y evil queen, sending them both heading for the hills.
As Josie explained to Hope, Caroline used to read fairytales to her and Lizzie when they were little, hence the theme of her subconscious world. And that’s exactly what Hope reminded Josie — that this was her world. She made the evil version of herself more powerful in her mind, so if she convinces herself that good can prevail, they could all live happily ever after.
“I was afraid of being strong,” Josie told her dark doppelganger. “I thought being strong meant hurting Lizzie. I told myself that being powerful meant being evil, but it doesn’t. Hope is strong, and she’s good. You made a story — I made a story — where I was powerless. But that’s not true!” After mentally stripping the enemy of her weapons and armor, Josie axed her darker half, kissing her goodbye and laying her on the same stone table where she once slept.
Meanwhile, Lizzie spent the hour planning her own funeral to convince “homicidal Hot Topic Josie” that she’s really dead — only to discover that the student body wasn’t exactly mourning her loss. Heck, one hateful rando even said it was a “relief” to not have to anticipate Lizzie’s next crazy move. (Kudos to Danielle Rose Russell for her solid Lizzie impression, by the way. Alaric was a fool for thinking that the cloaking spell wouldn’t trick anyone.)
It wasn’t until MG took the podium to shame his fellow students for not accepting Lizzie’s attempts to become a nicer person that things finally turned around. Other kids began to recall moments of kindness from Lizzie, hopefully giving her the courage to continue her never-ending quest for personal betterment. It is working! Lizzie returned the favor by writing and delivering MG’s eulogy for an audience of one, listing all of the wonderful qualities that have turned Quincy Fouse’s character into a true fan favorite.
While all of this was going down, Rafael came clean to Alaric about kinda-sorta murdering Landon, begging the headmaster to put him out of his misery. When Alaric refused, the Necromancer took control, telling his puppet to bring the Salvatore School’s headmaster to his lair. It was there that the hatched-faced lunatic proposed a temporary truce; he would bring back everyone he killed (including Landon!) if Lizzie did a spell to transfer Josie’s dark magic into to him.
Everyone kept up their end of the bargain, but in true Legacies fashion, the episode ended with a nasty pair of twists. Not only is Landon not regaining consciousness, but Hope also remains asleep for some reason. It’s literally anyone’s guess when we’ll finally see the remaining episodes of Season 2, but as executive producer Julie Plec remind us, the musical episode is next — so it’s totally worth the wait.

Terrific episode! Looking forward to more episodes when they air.
“She once walked past me and said hard pass for no reason”…
“I’m special and unique but I’m emotional about it for some reason”
” hes probably of being a beta somewhere… Which I’m totally into”
This epi had some zingers…
Danielle Rose Russell really captured Lizzy
Ned and Kaleb going top diva on one another…
Will say I don’t care how bad Lizzy was.. Ppl laughing at the wake seemed off.. Glad and not surprised MG stepped up…
As I was never into the whole dark Josie thing… That SL didn’t move me one way or another…
So Raf is left as a wolf for months.. Has to deal with a broken brain… Gets possessed… Finds his dad but not his mom… Gets hunted down and killed brought back to life… Used as a puppet to Kill his best fried/brother… Somewhere in there had to deal with his feelings for hope being dashed once again after everyone remembered everything… And has had no time to deal with any of it and no real support for it from anyone in the cast cept a lil bit from Landon last epi… And whenever the show comes back… He’s got Landon and Hope in a coma… So I doubt he’ll have anytime to deal… I’m not gonna expect much.. But I do hope in one of the remaining episodes somebody in the cast acknowledges what he’s been through.. Hell I may even be ok with just anyone talking to him for more than 30 seconds
So i love your thoughts about Raf… it’ll be good if he even had someone to take his mind finally off hope. He’s 🐝 through alot
Is it a non-consensual kiss if Josie’s subconscious created the scenario. Seems more like a request.
Also, it was Josie disguised as the pig who literally suggested it to Hope.
I am distressed. They gave me hope (no pun intended) only to tear it away. I was really glad when I thought Landon was gonna be brought back only to find out he may really be gone.
The musical episode is 2.19 per the article that announced it. Julie didn’t mean it’s 2.17 in her Twitter reply.
Lizzie has always been mny favorite character along with Hope, and the way everyone was acting about her being dead killed me, and MG’s eulogy made me cry a lot. I love their relationship, and i’m glad they are maybe, hopefully, getting together. I know this wasn’t the planned finale, but i feel like it aligned perfectly with that ending twist about Hope not waking up. Hopefully these weird times end soon, and everyone can get back to the real life and they can finish up with season 2 the way it was meant to be.
I sorta miss the seriousness from TVD & TO
Ditto, brother. I miss the real drama. Esp always and forever. 😔
I love this show but they’re literally lacking of showing hope’s powers, like I mean there will be more episodes coming up but it’s too much slacking of how the episodes aren’t showing any powerful hope mikaelson scene, she’s a tribid after all, but season 2 seem really all about josie and not hope getting more powerful and rebellious since it’s her, Klaus and Hayley’s daughter, and she should be learning to be a dark soul mikaelson tribid but they’re just showing and looks convincing in season 2 of dark josie being more powerful than hope mikaelson, which that doesn’t make any sense. I mean she and Lizzie are twins but hope is still a mikaelson, an original heir of klaus mikaelson. *sigh* smh.
I mean it’s her show after all ..?
Of course but wouldnt it be so boring if she’s unstoppable and can end anything with a snap. I think they’re trying to explain that she’s still learning and also not reckless , relies on her head than trying to overflow power outside . That’s why it is seen that in most problems she faces , she tries to think of a way on how to stop it not looking for some spell somewhere
I sorta miss the seriousness from TVD & TO
Think of this show as the Legends of Tomorrow of TVD universe…Hey, it even has the root of “legend” in its title! It’s a lighter take on the same setting.
Seriously…. Danielle playing Lizzie was a fantastic idea. Seriously… Just let her play everyone.
Honestly I miss the seriousness of TvD and TO….I was expecting alot from the proposed last episode of season 2 not so much fairytales….I gotta say am disappointed
Cut them some slack dude they weren’t expecting this to be the finale when they filmed this over an month ago.
Brett Matthews (Legacies writer) said in an interview, the following Legacies seasons will be darker and more mature, and its characters will be deeper and will get more developed. Then, i really know that seriousness you’re missing in Legacies, you’ll get back next … Don’t worry.
I love the fact they left it in a cliffhanger but I’m am not patient so I kinda want another episode for season 2
Its geting more and more stupid every episode this is klaus mikelson daughter I’m really not feeling it
I don’t know if I’m getting it wrong but isn’t Hope the Daughter of the first and most dangerous hybrid? And isn’t her grandma the most powerful witch that ever lived??? Isn’t she a decesendant of one of the most powerful werewolf bloodline??(cresent wolf)….Why is she sooo ordinary in this series😥😥…..I’m really not feeling her energy…I look forward to it tho in the next season
Sameee! When I read the summary for legacies, it said Hope was a tribrid and she was really powerful. But im kinda surprised that even with modern day tech, they still didnt seem to show that kind of power:l
I thought so too, but i guess they are just explaining it in a way that she demonstrates her power not only physically but her ability to plan ahead , in a sense that she is in full control of her power , it is shown even in the fight between josie and Hope whereby Josie realises that Hope wasn’t fully fighting back but trying to wake up the good side in Josie ,she is even seen to stop everyone who intended to fight back as plan B by trapping them in the game and formulating her own plan B.Therefore as to say ,she is strong but she’s not reckless.
Terrible episode
The reason Hope won’t wake up is that on Josei’s subconscious, her evil doppelganger turned Hope into a stone statue.
Evil Josie turned Hope into stone in Josies mind and that why she still asleep
It was such an amazing episode, I loved it and can’t wait for the musical episode.
It’s worth the wait.

I didn’t like the finale alot. They always make Hope look so weak. I also didn’t like that the entire season was about Josie and her darkness.. I love Hope and Landon together, is it possible her mind could be linked to Landons?
It essence of this season was the fact that things have moved on and that includes everyone from the school. It focussed on Josie because, come on admit it she has been through a lot,( maybe her perants didnt die but her sister slept with her crush, she almost got killed by her mom, and then she had to kill her mom and to top it off her ex-not ex left the school) and she was trying to prove herself. It was about her reaching her breaking point.
rated it a b cuz it is very sad and always at the end of series it leaves you with a cliffhanger that always makes you think about it so …… yeah you will always have thoughts about what happens next unless you watch the next season
I have been a fan of the TVD Universe since 2009 and i have to say, the standards set by the previous shows are knowhere to be seen when looking at Legacies… Don’t get me wrong, the show’s good(season1 was tight, but season 2 is crap)… I however didn’t enjoy s2 because a lot of storylines were cancelled. I get that this is a chick show and the girls(Hope and the twins) are powerful which is awesome to see. However s2 did not do much for any of the guys considering they are great actors(Chris Lee, Peyton Smith, Quincy Fousse n Aria)… The show just rendered them incompetent. Caleb was kust there for the jokes, MG was just there to give Hope a knife to kill a Monster as if he can’t do it himself given he’s a vampire. Then there’s Rafael. Peyton is a great actor, in s1 he had a great storyline. He was an alpha in season 1 but they completely scrapped that story. Then the Father storyline just died. In s2 he only had 15minutes of screentime
Basically the guys on this show have been made incompetent and its sad really
Im disappointed with this show and in my opinion, it has trashed the legacy of this Universe i used to love so much.
When will there be a new episode 1 Netflix?
