James has a fun collection of ideas of things to do on one’s website, some of which I have done and some of which I have not.
Here are a few more things I have on my website that weren’t on the list:
- Yearly listening pages to supplement last.fm’s tracking
- Recreated playlists
- A page listing my favorite albums — Greg Moore curates a seasonal selection of albums which is rad, and Rian van der Merwe has a cool currently listening / recently listened music site
- A list of music to try
- A list of visual artists I like
- Accountability tracking pages for some projects I’m working on
- Themed questions I like to think about
On my old website I had a “creative bucket list” of things I want to make someday. I also have texture collections I’m sharing under a CC license.
And a few other ideas I haven’t done (…yet?):
- A gardening page to keep track of plants and changes in the yard — could be especially handy to track which bulbs I bought each year 😂 (credit for this idea goes to Anthony Ciccarello)
- A nature notes page to log wildlife sightings and timing (phenology) — I might combine this with a garden page? or incorporate into my weeknotes?
- A travel guide / local area guide based on places you’ve been or your local knowledge
- Vacation logs / trip reports to share photos or stories or tips about destinations
- A wishlist / shopping list — I’ve thought about doing this to use my website as my wishlist instead of Pinterest but their bookmarklet makes it pretty easy…
- A bio page for my cats 😺
- A visual inspiration art gallery
- A guiding philosophy for my website (credit for this one goes to bikobatanari)
