Zack Budryk

Staff writer

I’m an energy and environment reporter from The Hill with a special focus on the historical context of environmental issues, climate and environment-related legal battles and the effects of climate and environmental disasters on frontline communities. I also co-write The Hill’s daily Overnight Energy & Environment newsletter.

I was born and raised in Richmond, Va., and did my first professional writing for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2012 and have spent the time since in the DC area. In addition to my work with The Hill, my writing has appeared in The Washington Post, USA Today and Teen Vogue. My non-environment-related writing has focused on autism and disability rights and 20th-century American history, particularly the intersections of crime and politics. I was the 2021 recipient of the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network’s Harriet McBryde Johnson Award for Nonfiction.
