Ashley Aufderheide plays the ultimate riot grrrl Gwen in That 90s Show. Born in 2005, the actor didn’t actually live through the 90s, but she’s clearly done her research.

“When I was auditioning for Gwen, I literally just went in the car by myself, drove around listening to Veruca Salt, just belting my heart out,” she told StyleCaster. “And then I just practiced the lines in the car to really get into my own headspace, far away from everyone else.” She’d thrash to Green Day, Bikini Kill, and Alanis Morissette, among others. But how would she react to classic fashion trends from the era? We put her to the test by rating some classic celeb looks.

Her favorite look was TLC’s denim overalls moment at the 1994 American Music Awards. “I’m gonna get a pair now that I’m 18 and I can make my own clothing choices, Mom,” she joked, addressing her mother who was watching on in the studio. She rated the look 8.35.

Aufderheide’s least favorite outfit, conversely, was Mayim Bialik’s floral green ensemble to promote the ’91 show, Blossom. “I’m not a big fan of this outfit,” she admitted. “I prefer flowers in the garden, not on my body. Collared shirts aren’t my favorite either … I’d give this outfit a 1.97.”
