Hermod was a member of the Asgard race who was dispatched by Thor to the world of Cimmeria after the attempted invasion of it by the Goa'uld Heru'ur.

Once the native human populace learnt that their deity Thor was in fact from a race of aliens after SG-1 aided the inhabitants by solving the puzzles within the Hall of Thor's Might. Upon solving its test, the Asgard's true nature was revealed and it was decided to help not only protect the world from further Goa'uld attack but to also educate its populace. To help achieve that end, Hermod was transported to the world where he began working with the inhabitants as well as overseeing its protection. (RPG: "Friends and Foes: Stargate Season Two")
