Luqmaan A Damnnnnnnn...marilyn got some daddy issues ...excellent performance from ana de armas and adrien brody.....but the director took it to far....seemed liked they added some rumors and conspiracy theories to the movie..aside that it a solid movie with good cinematography. Rated 0.5/5 Stars •  Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/03/24 Full Review Jonah K emotionally exhausting. i am typically someone who is able to separate art from its context/creator, but i may have found my limit here. it feels discomforting to have this degree of interpretation be represented as truth. it seems that the writer of this source material put Marilyn into the story she wanted to write, rather than actually telling Marilyn’s story. i question why this couldn’t just be a fictional character. at the same time, this is what we do to people. not even just celebrities. place our perceptions and our experiences on to them, turning them into someone else entirely. what we want them to be or who we think they are. it’s very confronting. are we mad that the movie is doing this to Marilyn Monroe or are we mad that we do this to other people ourselves? artistically, this is fascinating, but i don’t know if it’s worth sacrificing empathy for. side note: i am also very curious about what constitutes the NC-17 rating. maybe it was the consistency of the content rather than the extremity of it. Which is why I wanted to see this movie however, after watching it I was kind of disappointed! Not in Ana De Armas because she does a great job but by how the director and writers approached this movie. Don't get me wrong, I understand that their version of Marilyn Monroe is based on the book it just could've been a lot better!
