Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates cover image.

Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates was an expansion released for the video game Starfleet Command II: Empires at War. As its name suggests, the primary focus of the game was the Orion pirates.

Summary[]

Orion Pirates did not have a story campaign for the 8 established galactic powers; instead, the only playable campaign for them was a general conquest campaign. The newly added Orion Pirate cartels, however, had a newly written story campaign available to them that featured several pirate-specific missions, as well as missions that touched on events from the previous game, Empires at War.

Differences from SFC2[]

  • 'X-ships' were added. These ships were armed with more powerful weapons than normal ships (such as X phasers), and could stand in combat against ships above their size class.
  • Some new ship types were added for certain factions.

Background[]

Orion Pirates was originally intended to be released as an expansion pack for Empires at War. However, the decision was eventually made to release it as a standalone title. It was also one of Interplay's last Star Trek releases, as their license with Paramount expired in mid-2001, and they did not choose to renew it.
