Imagine coming to Dantes Peak to investigate a volcano and not only is Linda Hamilton the mayor but she's single and into you.

    The Last Emperor

    ★★★½

“I was the emperor of China.”

Just an insane sentence from this movie. I forgot to mention this on the pod but that scene where he was under the silk sheets with his two wives..? Holy smokes, gorgeous.

This thing swept at the Oscars in 1988 and for Best Picture it beat out Broadcast News, Fatal Attraction, Hope and Glory, and Moonstruck. If this thing wasn't in English...no way it even gets nominated at the time, right? Could people in the late 1980s even read?

The zombie baby gets punched through a window into a dude's nuts and then a wig falls on the baby's head and some people think Evil Dead is still better???

I will be brave and say Tom has never been funnier. A delight.

There are so many moments where he steals the scene with his delivery and charisma...but also barely anyone has seen this movie in the last decade? The dark years, etc.

It drags a bit and the CGI has aged like milk but it made me yearn for more funny and fun Tom in movies. It's on MAX rn so give love a chance. This 2.8 average rating is a travesty.

    ★★★

    Not bad!

This era of Tom is so bizarre, Lions for Lambs before it and Knight & Day after it before he goes back to formula. The fallout from the couch etc was very real. I thought that meme video of Tom's giant ass was fake until it appeared on-screen. Unreal cheeks.

Anyway, my friends and I have a Tom Cruise retrospective podcast and we recently did an episode on this movie. xoxo

Imagine doubting The Master (tm), Tim Burton.

I would never. Real Fans wouldn’t. Not after he reclaimed his crown with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Date night at PFS East with mah wafe. She was pissed she didn’t think to wear her sandworm costume. She got progressively more pissed when she saw everyone wearing Beetlejuice jackets. “Shoulda been me.” We both love the original and between you and me she gave this 5 stars, too.

    Production design was cooking and…

  • A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge

A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge

    ★★★½

    My opinion has changed, OK?

Freddy is legit scary in this. It's mind boggling to me that this came out ONE YEAR after the last one and not only is Freddy actually frightening but they essentially ditched the entire dream premise from the first one. It's like they only had one option; keep Freddy as a lame bozo and keep the dreams or make him kinda rad and ditch the dream stuff.

The entire coach subplot is bananas. I was…

    ★★★½

How about Ben Affleck playing both Daredevil and Batman at various points in his career? Goated king master etc.

I remember being in a comic shop 20 years ago telling the clerk that the Director’s Cut of this movie was 100x better than the theatrical. He retorted in the nerdiest voice ever: “Uhhhhh 100x zero is still zero!” Bozo mfer.

Anyway yes the DC is still better than the theatrical and tbh it’s still pretty good. Well it’s pretty good…
