The Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens may pursue Texans surprising trade candidate running back Miles Sanders. Bleacher Report published an article stating the Panthers could put Sanders on the trading block along with Diontae Johnson if they continue to lose. After benching second-year quarterback Bryce Young for veteran Andy Dalton, it doesn’t make sense to build a roster without having an immediate franchiser. If the Panthers are willing to part ways with players, they should be able to if they want to draft a new quarterback and that may include trading more than just Johnson and Sanders.

However, after four successful seasons with the Eagles, Sanders didn’t have an impressive debut with Carolina in the 2023 campaign. He was looking for more touches but the coaching staff put him behind Chuba Hubbard as the favorable starter. Injuries are already piling in the running back landscape so it’s safe to trade him now before his value dwindles throughout the season. The Panthers could use this opportunity to build draft capital to build another new regime under Dave Canales.

Some say the Texans should acquire Sanders for additional depth behind Joe Mixon since Dameon Pierce was inactive for week two. However, there are other running back-needy teams like the Chiefs and Ravens. After losing Isiah Pacheco, the Chiefs are looking for a quick answer to handle the starting snaps ahead of Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Samaje Perine and Carson Steele. Kansas City is bringing back Kareem Hunt but no one knows what he can do since he’s older and lands himself on a practice squad.

A quick fix may be veteran Sanders looking for more ball carries. However, Derrick Henry needs more support since Keaton Mitchell won’t be ready even if he comes back from injury.

Other Potential Trade Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

Jim Harbaugh will put all his focus on the running game this season and it’s paying so far. However, the team must remember that they don’t have Joshua Kelley anymore so there’s a lack of additional support behind J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. A new running back isn’t the biggest need but since both Dobbins and Edwards are coming back from gruesome injuries, anything could happen. Sanders might not be the superstar he was before in Philadelphia but he could carve out a role for himself under Harbaugh’s running style.

Harbaugh is running an old-school style offense and that may be the new system that Sanders could best produce numbers. He isn’t the fastest but he could earn himself a backup position behind Dobbins.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints are looking like a playoff-worthy roster but they should be able to give more support for Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams. Kendre Miller is likely heading elsewhere if he continues to suffer another injury or is unproductive. Dennis Allen’s patience is wearing thin with Miller so the easy replacement could be trading him to a roster like Carolina that gives him a new scenery. This trade could come cheap where the Saints could bring in Sanders in exchange for Miller to bolster their offense in preparation for bigger games against tough defenses.

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas probably has one of the worst collections of running backs on the depth chart. Ezekiel Elliott may be back but he’s past his prime just like Dalvin Cook. It’s Rico Dowdle’s first season sharing snaps with Elliott so some additional support from Sanders could be what Dallas needs to test the waters. Sanders probably won’t win the starting job but he could be a reliable weapon to get most of the ball carries while the team swaps through running backs.
