Wilt Chamberlain Rumors
Oscar Robertson: “Wilt Chamberlain was putting on a show for people. He carried the NBA for years, and I’ve always said this: the year he averaged 50 points a game, my good friend Bill Russell won MVP because they won the championship. But when you average 50 points in a season and I average a triple-double that same year, it’s unbelievable. And people don’t say much about it.”
“The human body is not made to be so tall,” said Mokeski. “From Darryl Dawkins and Moses Malone to Earl Cureton, Wilt Chamberlain, and Jack Haley, they all died from heart-related problems. This is what happens with tall players like me who played in the NBA. We notice the former tall players who have passed away and how they died. Yes, it is a concern.”
After signing with Fenerbahçe today, it could mark the end of Boban Marjanovic’s NBA career. If so, he retires with a higher career PER than Steph Curry, a higher win shares per 48 than Kevin Durant, and almost as many points per 36 as Wilt Chamberlain. Per minute king
Wilt Chamberlain rookie card sold for $1.7 million
A 1961-62 Fleer Wilt Chamberlain rookie card recently sold for $1.7 million in a private deal brokered by Goldin Auctions. It’s the most money ever paid for a vintage (pre-1980) basketball card. The previous record was a 1980-81 Topps Larry Bird/Magic Johnson rookie card, which sold in August 2021 for $840,000, also with Goldin.
The Chamberlain card sat in a grocery store closet in Crosby, Minnesota, for “more than 60 years,” according to a press release, where a family member of the store’s owners found it. Sent to grading just weeks ago, it received a perfect “10” from card grader SGC, the only 10 ever given to a 1961-62 Fleer card.

Terry said until his father’s death, NBA players constantly sought out George for tutelage and advice. Big men like Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar applauded Mikan for his size and athleticism. Shaquille O’Neal said Mikan “made basketball bigger.” “You made me, me,” O’Neal said in a 2022 Mikan tribute video. “Because of you, there’s no limits to where we can play.” The respect from players continued after Mikan’s death. “Shaq called and said, I want to pay for your dad’s funeral,’” Terry said. “Bill Russell, without any notification, showed up at the funeral and spoke.”
It’s an interesting conversation. You think of Luka and Kyrie, you and Joe Dumars, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. We released a list to further the debate, but is there anyone else who isn’t getting enough consideration? Isiah Thomas: “I think it’s really hard. This is an audience that’s pretty young. Gail Goodrich and Jerry West was pretty damn good. I think they both were averaging 25 or 26 [points] with Wilt Chamberlain. Those guys were pretty good. [Earl] Monroe and [Walt] Frazier were good. It’s really difficult. Luka and Kyrie, they’re pretty special on the offensive side of the ball. Those two would be tough to guard in any era. They’ll give it to you. As a fan watching them, I love watching them play because they give you the entertainment. They give you the excitement. They give you the oohs and aahs. Offensively, they give you everything that you want.
