Wilt Chamberlain Rumors

Oscar Robertson: “Wilt Chamberlain was putting on a show for people. He carried the NBA for years, and I’ve always said this: the year he averaged 50 points a game, my good friend Bill Russell won MVP because they won the championship. But when you average 50 points in a season and I average a triple-double that same year, it’s unbelievable. And people don’t say much about it.”

The Chamberlain card sat in a grocery store closet in Crosby, Minnesota, for “more than 60 years,” according to a press release, where a family member of the store’s owners found it. Sent to grading just weeks ago, it received a perfect “10” from card grader SGC, the only 10 ever given to a 1961-62 Fleer card.

Terry said until his father’s death, NBA players constantly sought out George for tutelage and advice. Big men like Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar applauded Mikan for his size and athleticism. Shaquille O’Neal said Mikan “made basketball bigger.” “You made me, me,” O’Neal said in a 2022 Mikan tribute video. “Because of you, there’s no limits to where we can play.” The respect from players continued after Mikan’s death. “Shaq called and said, I want to pay for your dad’s funeral,’” Terry said. “Bill Russell, without any notification, showed up at the funeral and spoke.”
It’s an interesting conversation. You think of Luka and Kyrie, you and Joe Dumars, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. We released a list to further the debate, but is there anyone else who isn’t getting enough consideration? Isiah Thomas: “I think it’s really hard. This is an audience that’s pretty young. Gail Goodrich and Jerry West was pretty damn good. I think they both were averaging 25 or 26 [points] with Wilt Chamberlain. Those guys were pretty good. [Earl] Monroe and [Walt] Frazier were good. It’s really difficult. Luka and Kyrie, they’re pretty special on the offensive side of the ball. Those two would be tough to guard in any era. They’ll give it to you. As a fan watching them, I love watching them play because they give you the entertainment. They give you the excitement. They give you the oohs and aahs. Offensively, they give you everything that you want.
