Morant returned to Streets Ministries, where a year ago he surprised a group of kids at a basketball camp in Graham Heights. This time, he was with the Grizzlies as part of their “meals of hope” community event. Grizzlies players, staff and new investing partner Robinhood helped package 60,000 meals. The event had a competitive spirit to it, too, with each table trying to box the most meals.
Basketball legend Alex English is putting down the ball and picking up the golf clubs for a special event. The Alex English Celebrity Golf Tournament will be at Cobblestone Park Golf Club on Sept. 23. They are still accepting golfers. The money raised will go to Family Promise of the Midlands, a charity that helps families experiencing homelessness.
Former team captain and current Heat executive Udonis Haslem on Tuesday teamed with Wells Fargo and Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade to help refurbish a home in Miami Gardens, as part of a national announcement of $1.2 million Wells Fargo grant to Rebuilding Together, benefitting 75 homes in 46 cities.
Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse, a native of Carroll, Iowa, is bringing a fun night of music to Paisley Park on Friday night, September 27th. He’ll be there, mingling and maybe even dancing the night away. The Nick Nurse Foundation is hosting the Purple Experience, featuring performances by Morris Day & the Time, New Power Generation, and Sheila E.
Nurse’s love for Prince’s music dates back to 1984 after he attended a concert in 1984 at the St. Paul Civic Center. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Minneapolis community, including supporting Purple Playground, a 501(c)3 nonprofit fan-based group founded to honor Prince’s legacy.
A former basketball star is making a $1 million commitment to a New Orleans school. St. Mary’s Academy announced that Charles Barkley will be donating $1 million to the school over the next 10 years. School officials said Barkley made the decision after watching two St. Mary’s Academy students prove the Pythagorean Theorem using trigonometry on an episode of “60 Minutes” in May.

Stephen Curry and his wife, Ayesha, through their foundation are raising $25 million for Oakland students to be applied toward bridging the literacy gap, they announced Thursday, the day he agreed to a one-year, $62.6 million contract extension with Golden State.
According to a news release issued by Eat. Learn. Play., the money will go toward tutoring in reading and writing for approximately 10,000 elementary school students in the Oakland Unified School District the next five years. The foundation also committed last September to raise and invest $50 million in resources for Oakland students by the end of the 2025-26 academic year.
