Master Fantasy Book List
Hello,
I am starting a new way of having books suggested to the group and selecting books to vote on for each month. First, you will notice the books above are numbered. Second, they are in alphabetical order (I hope, for the most part!). Each month I will go to this site:
http://www.mdani.demon.co.uk/para/ran...
and tell it to select 10 numbers, randomly, between 1 to X (being the number of books here) and no duplicate numbers. Those ten numbers will select the ten books we will pick from. Two weeks before the first of the month I will do this, post the books and allow members here to explain why they would suggest or not suggest certain books among them in a topic in this folder. On the first day of each month I will post the poll and a week or so later we will have 3 new books!
Also, I am asking everyone to now suggest books in this way:
Book by Author
THEY MUST HAVE BOTH and BE IN THIS FORMAT! It takes a long time to search down books just threw in here by title or, Lord forbid, "that alien book from Heinlein". Those I ignore :-p Being in college, I need some help in getting these lined up. The format above is easy to add to the list and I ask suggestions in this Monthly Book Suggestions folder be in this way. I have also created a Member's Suggestion Folder so we can suggest books not necessarily to read together or discuss our suggestions more. If you wish to suggest something here and discuss it I ask that you do the discussion in that folder so I can easily add entries and not miss any!
Also, once I add an entry to the list I will delete that post from the thread to keep it orderly. Please also check the list and not post entries already suggested.
Thanks!
Nick

Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson is a really good one i would second that but the Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb has a really bad ending to the seiries so I would would like to stay away from that one

Sorry to be rude, but I'm kind of giggling about someone worrying about wasting time on a book club forum on the internet. (Isn't that what the internet's all about?!)
I'm only on this one group so if that book wasn't posted here I never would have seen it.

Did they actually say they were going to raise the price? I've never seen them raise it. Usually it works the other way around. A $25 book that Amazon discounts to 9.99, then they give you 35% of the original 25.00 which equals 8.75. This means Amazon makes about a 1.00. This is their "profit" on many of the NYT bestsellers. I believe that policy is in effect to protect your royalty if Amazon discounts the price. I hav....umm....too many Kindle books and have never seen Amazon's price above the publisher's Digital List Price.
check out kindleboards. There are lots of self-publishing authors there and I think most of them have been happy with their experience. I haven't ever seen Amazon raising prices, but they do have discounts and you still get the royalty on the SRP instead of the discount. I think you can pull a title if you want to if something happens you don't like.

While traveling to begin his magical studies, young apprentice Niel suddenly finds himself at the center of the Heart’s terrifying legend. Caught in a whirlwind of events that fractures the foundation of everything he’s believed, Niel learns his role in the world may be far more important than he ever could have imagined, or ever would have wished.
"A Mage of None Magic" begins an extraordinary adventure into a perilous land where autocratic magicians manipulate an idle aristocracy, where common academia struggles for validation, and where after ages of disregard the mythical refuses to be ignored any longer.

Merlin's Charge:
In the wasteland of Britain in the year 500, a cranky Merlin tutors a teenage Arthur. Missing the comfort of the Realm of Dragons, Merlin amuses himself with two simultaneous sneaky marriages to the feuding witches, Nimm and Mother Hubbard. With the help of young Parsifal, they all begin the search for the holy grail, their town's communal cauldron, which was stolen by a Pict witch to make a demon bell. Recovering the cauldron will end the drought in time for Arthur to be King. Along the way they meet a host of colorful characters and face obstacles of a most phenomenal nature. Classic Peter Joseph Swanson-wickedly bawdy.

I would like to add a couple of classics: "The King of Elfland's Daughter" by Lord Dunsany and "The Wind in the Willows" by Kenneth Grahame -- which may or may not be considered fantasy, but it is the book that introduced me to fantasy as something other than fairy tales and Mother Goose stories.
Am I missing something here, or has The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien been missed off the list?
The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley

I just remembered another one,
Sweet Silver Blues by Glen Cook, of the Garrett P. I. series.
This series combines the detective mystery genre with fantasy, and I think they are worth reading.

I believe this group has read both of these....that's probably why they weren't on the list...

Oath of Fealty by Elizabeth Moon
Twenty years after the Deed of Paksenarrion, Moon returns to further the tale. Altho Paks is a minor character, the plot and character development of those who were a part of her development are utterly engaging. I am on my second read and am just as absorbed as the first time through.
