I loved the concept of this one soooo much, but the middle part of the book felt lacking to me; it seemed like the author had a very strong beginning and ending, but couldn't quite figure out what to do to reach point B from point A.
The POV characters where very charming, although sometimes I didn't feel like they behaved logically.
An interesting one for sure, but I really hoped for more....more

I'm horribly late to the party, but here I finally am. Did I enjoy reading this book? No. I also don't think anyone could "enjoy" reading about this topics, it doesn't mean these books shouldn't be written. The story was very well written, atmospheric, if a bit confusing at times, but maybe that's just me as a non native english speaker. I did think the book lacked a bit of focus tho: there were many, many twists and plot points, and I get that these issues combine in real life people so i'm not saying it's not realistic, just that it left me guessing what was the specific points the author was trying to make. Still a really worthwhile read (but please, read the trigger warnings first!)....more

This was really really *3.5

This was really really fun! Engaging and fast-paced, it's a really entertaining book. The puns and the wordplay got me chuckling from time to t(hy)me and i got quite attached to the characters. I would not be opposed to reading another few of these, even though I'm not a huge mystery reader....more

Ora and the Old God was a bit of a surprise to me. First of all, I didn't knew it involved fae. I'm not usually a fan of the creatures, but I liked them in this one, so kudos for that.
I also really liked Ora, which I didn't expect at all. She's got quite a temper, but could be cunning when needed. It can feel like she's a little sweeped up by the events, but she shows she has agency throughout the book. Tyg was also quite interesting, I like cruel characters, even more if they're women. It felt a bit too much at certain points, like being bad for the sake of being bad?, but it worked well for most of the time. The other characters felt a little flat to me, like they were mainly there for the plot, not really fleshed out. I liked some of them more than others, for sure.
The plot itself was captivating, but a bit rushed maybe, specially in the end.
I will pick up the sequel, I want to see what is about to happen!
