Devin Grayson is an avid gamer, former acting student, and enthusiastic reader fortunate enough to have turned a lifelong obsession with fictional characters into a dynamic writing career. She has a B.A. from Bard College, where she studied creative writing with novelist Mona Simpson. Best known for her work on the Batman titles for DC Comics, Devin has been a regular writer on Catwoman, Nightwing, and The Titans, and contributed to the award-winning No Man’s Land story arc. With the publication of Batman: Gotham Knights in March of 2000, she became the first (and, sadly, only as of 2020) female to create, launch and write an ongoing Batman title.

Additional career highlights include the launch of the critically acclaimed series Omni for Humanoids, Doctor Strange: The Fate of Dreams, an original novel featuring Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme, and USER—a highly personal three-part, creator-owned miniseries about gender identity and online role-playing, originally published by Vertigo and newly available as a collected edition hardcover through Image. Devin is also the creator of Yelena Belova, a Marvel character staring in the upcoming MCU Black Widow movie (played by Florence Pugh), Damien Darhk, a DC character now appearing regularly in CW’s Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow (played by Neal McDonough), and Catalina Flores, a DC character recently featured as the super-villain Tarantula in The Lego Batman Movie.

Frequently cited for compelling character development and nuanced exploration of complex themes, Devin’s work has been showcased in mainstream media such as USA Today and Working Woman as well as in alternative press such as The Village Voice, The Advocate, and Curve magazine. Over the years, she has written in several different media and genres, from comic books and novels to video game scripts and short essays. She is currently working on an original graphic novel for Berger Books.

Devin lives in Northern California with her husband, step-son, devoted Early Alert Canines Diabetic Alert Dog, and somewhat less devoted cat. Openly bisexual, she is a passionate advocate for the GLBTQ community, as well as being a committed environmentalist, and a public speaker for T1 Diabetes awareness and Diabetic Alert Dogs. She is always happy to take on a new challenge, especially if it involves making some new fictional friends.

This addition was so bad, it is entirely possible that this may be the last Nightwing book.

Nightwing: Renegade continues where the previous trade paperback left off collecting the next six issues (Nightwing #112–117) of the 1996 on-going series.

Nightwing: Renegade that tells a story about Dick Grayson going undercover as Renegade and is tasked by Slade Wilson as Deathstroke to train his daughter Rose Wilson as Ravenger with the promise that Deathstorke would leave Blüdhaven alone. In doing so, Renegade encounters Roy Harper as Arsenal (Nightwing #114) and Clark Kent as Superman (Nightwing #115).

However, Deathstroke betrays him and sends Chemo – a walking chemical bomb on his city. After several issues of spiraling down since the death of Blockbuster, he starts to right his wrongs – starting with Rose Wilson and ending up with a marriage proposal to Barbara Gordon.

Devin Grayson penned the entire trade paperback. For the most part, it is written moderately well, the downwards spiral of Dick Grayson as Nightwing continues as he still feels the aftereffects of not being able to stop the death of Blockbuster. In order to save his precious Blüdhaven, he makes a deal with the devil – Slade Wilson as Deathstroke, who betrayed him in the end. While it was somewhat interesting to read a Dick Grayson wallowing in guilt, it doesn’t seem to fit the image of the first Robin – at least in my mind.

Phil Hester (Nightwing #112–115), Wellinton Alves, Marcos Marz (Nightwing #116), and Brad Walker (Nightwing #117) penciled the trade paperback. With so many pencilers with different styles didn't mesh that well, which made the artistic flow rather rough. As I am not quite the fan of Hester's penciling style as the images drawn is too blocky for my liking.

All in all, Nightwing: Renegade is a good, continuation to what would hopefully be a wonderful series.

Devin Grayson's run ends here and I didn't like it very much. Deathstroke and Ravager are thrown into the mix here and its not for the good. Ravager acts like an ignorant child and Slade's plans make no sense. The book felt very rushed like they had to get to "One Year Later" as quick as possible. After the devastating events of Infinite Crisis you could have some incredibly heroic tales from Nightwing but we didn't get much and what we did get wasn't good. The art was kinetic and fitting but the story is the problem here. Overall, a downside in the history of Nightwing.

This wasn’t bad. The best issue in it is the second to last one that doesn’t even have to do with Deathstroke. Nightwing stands up for his city even when Superman is telling him that he should walk away and let him take care of it. Great character moment there.

3.5 stars. not bad but also not a must read, I'd say. I kind of expected more build up and story about Nightwing briefly being Renegade but we got this. I feel like this idea could have been a lot more fleshed out than it was.

Only read this a few weeks ago and I'm already struggling to remember what it was about.

Another nice collection of stories.

After a very realistic take on what Nightwing does as a cop for Bludhaven PD, this time things go back to normal in the superhero sense as Nightwing takes on an old enemy from his past as a Teen Titans. Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke is back and bringing with him his daughter Rose Wilson aka Ravager. It’s a nice little set up that deals with Nightwing back in action all the while as a sort of apprenticeship with his old foe. This story calls itself Renegade for Nightwing’s new red costume identity. I always wondered why they went with this color for some toys and much later with the New 52. Personally, I prefer the blue.

All this while several other old faces come back into his life, leading up to what will eventually become his involvement in the Infinite Crisis.

Not bad, but it’s a little disappointing. C

This and "Mobbed Up" don't QUITE fit with the image of the "uncorrupted Dick Grayson" Batman talks about in "Infinite Crisis". Dick is doubting himself and it's worse than usual, but finally he works through his issues. Yay!

Good Nightwing story. I liked the trip to his dark side but I wish they would stop the Superman cameos that seem all too common. The ending was also a nice turn of events and sets up the next arc well.

I did not enjoy reading this mostly because of the presence of Ravager. In fact I ended up skipping whole pages when she was around because she was so irritating to read.

Ravager can be an interesting character, but she was mostly annoying here. I loved the ending enough to add a star on to what was mostly a mediocre volume.
