Psychic Falls is having its annual crystal and gem festival, and Sage Mistwood and Tempest Battington are excited to have their first stand and tempt all the visitors with their newest culinary creation: Fortune-Telling Fudge Cakes. But when the festival is hit by mysterious wind flurries, and someone is found dead after the prize-gem competition, Sage finds herself swept up in another murder investigation. As she races back and forth between the festival stand, Psychic Sugar Rush, and investigating all the suspects, she is carried into encounters with a gem-hunting Tiger, a special serum from a crystal forest, a feisty magpie, a rock star druid, and countless glitter bombs. Sage quickly realizes that not everything is as it appears and learns just how cutthroat the gem circuit can be, so she can only hope that she can stop the murderer before she and all her fudge cakes are blown out of Psychic Falls in a violent flurry.
Dee Cee Streams loves traveling, pastries, ice cream, and exploring small towns and mountain lakes to get ideas for mystery scenes and quirky characters. The author's current series are the Spellbinding Smoothies and Psychic Sugar Rush cozy mysteries.
The premise has potential, and the mystery plot is complex, but the characters are all reprehensible, or at best annoying. The writing is purile, from the minced oaths to the constant avoidance of getting any questions answered. The only character who may be a good person is brain controlled and looks to continue that way. I may check the next book to see if there is improvement, but unless Tempest and most of the other characters get a major personality overhaul, the fun plot isn't worth the nastiness.
I enjoyed the setting and the story (even though it got a bit convoluted) but I came close to not finishing the book several times because of the Tempest character. She’s horrible - abusive, humorless and utterly selfish. She threatens everyone with a baseball bat for no reason, is surly at best. I kept hoping that it would be revealed that she was under a spell to make her so unbearable. I’d hate to be Sage and have to live and work with her, for the above reasons and because Tempest is incredibly hostile to nearly everyone.
I liked the story plot, the main characters , and the world building. I would of given this five stars, except for the character of Tempest. Mean, bossy, and potentially violent. I don’t understand the friendship between the main character Sage and Tempest. Talk about toxic. And Sage’s parents are just annoying. I think this series is really promising. Maybe a stronger Sage, and a lot less Tempest.
I really enjoyed this book. The story line and characters are pretty great. I would have given it a 5* but I couldn't really stomach Tempest. Its one thing to have the bad guys and gals but nope she just could have just been mentioned less. She portrays a bully to a best friend and older ppl. Sorry, I rather skimmed over many of her parts
41 chapters log drawn out stories . like mai charater Sage. Best friend different story. Wish Tempest would have a accident with Mr Battigton and have apersoality change. To bad she 's not the next murder victim.
Read books in order, you will love them. Wow, this book is one of my favorites in the series. I lve the twist and turns, and crazy things that are happening, just when you think you have it figured out. Beep, wrong anwser! I can't wait for the next one
