Delve into an exciting new stand-alone novel in New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall's "fast-paced and humorous" (Publishers Weekly), "utterly addictive" (RT Book Reviews) Immortal Guardians series.

Nick Belanger can't stop thinking about the single mother who lives next door. She's smart. She's funny. She's so beautiful he can't stare at her too long for fear his eyes will start to glow. But Kayla thinks he's just an ordinary guy who works in security. Finding out he instead is a powerful immortal warrior who hunts and slays psychotic vampires for a living may not go over well, particularly since she has a daughter she doesn't want to endanger.

Kayla Dorman can keep neither her gaze nor her thoughts from straying to the man next door. Who can blame her really? He is the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome with smart, charming, and honorable thrown in. He's also a few years younger than her and surely would not be interested in a single mom who hasn't dated since her divorce. At least that's what she thinks until an accident nearly takes her life and Nick risks all to save her.

The dynamics of their relationship swiftly change. The friendship they've developed over the years deepens into love as the two spend every minute they can together, laughing and teasing, never suspecting a threat may lurk in the shadows. But that threat soon strikes, making it clear that Nick is the target and his enemy doesn't care if Kayla gets caught in the cross fire. Though Kayla bravely rises to the occasion and is determined to do whatever it takes to help Nick defeat his enemy, Nick is terrified of losing her. Can he identify and eliminate his new nemesis before the man takes everything from him?

There's only one way to describe this book...it's the calm after the storm has passed.

It's not a bad book as the writing is as good as always...the story line just feels a little repetitive. Older woman with a kid starting college - I'm just saying Jenna and John - has a crush on the mysterious man in black.
Nick was a nice character - funny at times and cute. But just nice. Yeah, I know it's a death blow to a mans ego - being the nice guy. For me he was missing a certain depth and some hard edges...
Unfortunately, I had the same issue with Kayla. She was too nice...and the story was a repeat of the former already told story line- private military outfit wants to get their hands on an immortality serum. We already had that.

What was nice though, was to have 2 different gifts - premonition for Becca and shape shifting for Nick. I liked to finally see some diversity. Also, that Seth can't heal everything...
Oh and can we have less sex scenes...after years of reading romance...I'm tired of reading sex scene after sex scene...

But, aside form the main story line, one side character gained all my attention...Eliana! What a kick ass and quirky heroine...I can't wait to read her book in the Aldebarian Alliance series and hope we don't have to wait so long for it to come out...

3 stars

I Am So Sorry to have to give Broken Dawn 3 stars. But this story is boring, moves slow and resembles other IG stories. It's repetitive at times. I didn't care for the whole dementia crazy villain storyline.

I just wish DD would restructure her Gifted One female mates. Instead of the majority of them being in mid to late 30's. Kayla is 38 I think Seth's wife is 40. What I call the over the Hill Gang. Why not get some young blood in there. Do something exciting and different. Send us another Ami who can get pregnant. Someone young fresh and exciting.

The other problem I had with the story is Nick tells Kayla in the beginning of the story that his friend Marcus and his mate who happens to be Ami adopted there child Adera. NO!!! Marcus and Ami had Adera the natural way "Sex". What happen here? All Immortal Guardian Fans loves little Adera and her parents Marcus and Ami.

The story is rushed. I am giving it a generous 3 stars!! Every author deserves a miss and Broken Dawn is a miss for me. After Reading The Lasaran Ms. Duvall's last book in a spin off series any story would be a hard act to follow. The Lasaran may be her best work yet!! It was Exceptional!! So maybe my expectation for Broken Dawn was to high!!

Kristen Potter did her job!! She is an Excellent Narrator for the IG series.

I seriously have no idea why the author wrote this book. At first I thought Nick was Susan's brother from book #8 that came back from the dead and was living in a world apart. Then I thought he was Nick from book #6 as the only survivor of the massacre and discovered that he was one of the gifted ones. But then I understood that he is no one. Just another guardian that we have never had contact with.

Seriously? I would be okay with this book as a novella but it made no sense whatsoever to have this after the things that happened in the end of the previous book. I wanted to continue where it stopped. But no, we have a book that was a okay romance, just didn't make any sense as a whole.

Bad author. Lol.

3 stars out of spite.

Nick has been in love with his neighbour, Kayla for years (4 or 6?). And she has had a crush on him, but she was just getting over a bad divorce when she moved next door to him. Then there's also the whole immortal blood sucker secret to keep on Nick's part.
So they secretly lusted after each other. She is 38 now and figures nothing will come of her crush over a man she thinks is several years younger.
All that changes when her life is in mortal danger and Nick realizes that he is being a coward not pursuing her. He also now knows that she is a 'gifted one'.

The plot is simple and one the author has done before.
They don't really fall in love as it seems they were already in love. So there was NO romantic tension.
Everyone is super nice, or a completely conscienceless villain.

It was nice, but I felt like the author phoned it in.
I was especially annoyed by the ending. The whole poison thing made no sense to me and I was kinda bored by then.

Safety is fine

Well, that was disappointing. Two books by this author in a row filled with insta love.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Sorry to say this book just didn’t work for me on so many levels. The biggest of which is insta love which I hate.

Living next door to someone for six years doesn’t automatically mean you know them even if you visually see them everyday. The fact that he had to ask what she liked on her pizza (even though he creepily knew from over hearing conversations) suggest they were little more than acquaintances before this book took place, which was six year after living next door.

Thus as this book time spanned less than a week (before the last chapter), saying I love you after a few days was unbelievable. They had little time together on the page to allow me to buy this, especially her. His feelings were based on stalking and obsession. Hers were based on loneliness and the hot guy next door. I can’t see how she would decide to transform for someone she didn’t really know (see first paragraph after spoiler heading).

Then there were the plot holes like historical references that aren’t true (see bra reference in story).

Then there was the world building problems. As referenced in the last chapter, immortals can hear for miles. Why would any of them live in a neighborhood where houses are so close. How could he get rest or even mute our conversations when so many can be overheard for miles???? How could he hear Kayla over all the conversations happing around him???

Then there was the convenience that Seth couldn’t heal something to force Kayla to decide to transform (similar to previous story referenced in book). That was a totally plot device that left me eye rolling.

The final eye roll which made this book and the last (the Larsean) stink was the pussy heroes (outside of the eye rolling insta love). I love a good guy, but sometimes too much niceness becomes unattractive to me. A man should have a spine and not be some stepford husband type that follows the woman around saying ‘yes dear’ metaphorically speaking.

Total disappointment. I have to say if the next book has insta love, I’ll give up on the series.

The only redeemable thing about this was the narrator. Great job.

The story picks up after the events of Death of Darkness and while some threads connect, the story and romance will work as standalone. Although I can assure you from personal experience, you’ll be racing to grab the previous released books.

Divorcee Kayla Dorman and her daughter live next door to Nick and Oliver. Nick has crushed on her since they moved in and even with Kayla’s daughter away at college he hasn’t made a move. She thinks he is a security guard and hasn’t a clue Immortals, vampires and gifted ones exist.

Kayla fantasizes about how Nick’s lips would taste, but why would the sexy, tall hottie next door have any interest in her, besides he has a girl. Or does he?

I loved the chemistry and banter between these two. I swooned and laughed as our story opened. A missed appointment changes everything and forces the two to spend time together. I loved it all from the telling to the hot teasing.

A desperate and powerful man from Nick’ past emerges and places them in danger. The tension increased with every dangerous scene; as did the feelings these two shared. I loved the interaction with other Immortals and Seth.

When Oliver and Kayla were in trouble, Kayla was level-headed and kick-ass. All of Duvall’s female characters have an inner strength and fight to them. Kayla is no different. Seeing her defend those stronger than her made me grin. Her daughter was a hoot too. I loved her talk with Nick.

Kirsten Potter does a stellar job with the narration. Her male voices, accents, and emotions were brings is spot on. I plan on continuing listening to Duvall’s books on audio. Her writing style lends itself well to audio and the narrators add an extra swoon to the telling. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Book source ~ Purchased (also was a review request, but I forgot I had already pre-ordered it)

Nick Belanger has the hots for his next door neighbor, Kayla Dorman. He’d ask her out and hope she says yes, except he’s an Immortal Guardian and his life is all about killing vampires to protect the humans who are unaware of what goes bump in the night. Not only is he something she would find hard to believe, but she has a daughter he doesn’t want to put in danger. Well, he doesn’t want to put either one in danger, but now that the biggest threat in his world has been eliminated and her daughter is off to college, maybe he could tell her about his feelings. Maybe?

Kayla has always had the hots for Nick, but he’s a handsome single guy and she’s a single mom. Plus, he’s never shown any interest in her so she accepts and enjoys his friendship over the years. Their relationship is suddenly redefined after a near tragedy and Kayla is thrown into his world. What was once hands off becomes all hands on deck as the two really get to know each other. But a new danger is lurking in their Texas city and Nick will need to call in the Immortal Guardians from North Carolina when the shit hits the fan.

Anyone who has been following me over the years knows how much I love the Immortal Guardians. I devour each book as soon as it comes out. And now there’s a spinoff series called the Aldebarian Alliance that is just as yummy to nom on. Broken Dawn does a good job of standing alone even though it is the 10th book in the series. You can read it and not be lost if you haven’t read the books that came before. However, I don’t know why anyone would want to miss out on so many books with awesome characters, kickass action, snappy dialogue, humor, hot sexiness, and paranormal wonders. Why would you do that to yourself? No, I asked you a question. WHY?! Go sit in a corner and think about that.

Seriously, if you love your paranormal romance with lots of action, humor, multi-layered characters, and hot naked time set in a well-developed world then look no further.

Yes!! So good!!

Dianne never disappoints! I loved this book! What a great way to give us something new but not stray from the formula we all have come to know and love!
It was fun to read about Houston, the city I've called home for over 30 years.
Nick and Kayla's story overlaps the last book so I know there are many more to come!! I can't wait to read the next one!!
Hurry Dianne!!! 😘

What a bummer of a book. 1.5 star (audible review)

Well this book was truly a struggle to get through. So disappointing. I am a huge fan of this series and this was the worst. There was nothing great or fantastic about this book at all. Nick and Kayla were just MEH.. Didn't really care to much about either one of them. I think that was probably due to the sex sex and sex, the thoughts of sex and some more sex. Then there is more sex.

I am not a prude by no means I like sex in my stories. However, when there is not much of a story due to all the sex and sex thoughts it totally ruins a book and totally sucks! UGH

Come on Dianne Duvall can you get back to writing good stories and throwing a couple of sex scenes in them please!

The narration was great I like Kirsten Potter, she does a good job on all the voices.

It's no secret that I am a fan of the Immortal Guardians series. I love everything about it. I love the brooding immortal characters and the sassy women. I love the world with the vampires as the enemies. I love the friendships and the bonds the guardians have.

I was nervous going into this book because it is the first one that isn't set in North Carolina and the group of immortal guardians there. But this book was fantastic. Nick is an immortal guardian in Texas. He has loved his neighbor for years but has never done anything about it because she has a child and he is an immortal who hunts vampires. Kayla has been crushing on her neighbor almost as long has he has loved her. Certain circumstances happen and they are thrown together and they finally admit to their feelings. A different kind of enemy pops up and forces some tough decisions.

This book defiantly had a slower pace than the last couple of books but it was a much needed breather. Nick and Kayla are cute together. And I loved how Nick let Kayla be herself and vise versa.

If you have read the previous books, you don't need me to tell you to read this. Seth and a few of the NC guardians show up and it was nice to see them as backup characters. I love them but I love that we are getting some fresh guardians!

Good addition to the series

This is a nice addition to the Immortal Guardian series. A book by this author is never a disappointment except they always end and I never want them to end! This has the blush of new romance between Nick and his neighbor even though they have lived next to each other for 6 years. It has the excitement of hunting vampires but it’s main angst is an old man who wants the secret of youth he believes Nick can provide. Fighting and near death experiences aside, it is a most enjoyable read. So cruel to tease with the next one...Can’t wait for Eliana’s story!

21-10-2020:

Why is this book written?? Seriously, what is the point of it? Why introduce us to a character we never met before? Why not write a book about a character that we already love and want him to have a happy life instead of this boring, pointless, wast of a time book? Both the MC in this book acted like a dumb, horny teenagers that have insecurities about everything. What a waste 😑 The only reason I completed it is bc I wanted to see if something new was going to happen but there was nothing to add to the plot of the series. I'm so disappointed right now.

I’m gonna keep this spoiler free but you know what the best part is? You can read this book if you have not read others, and it’s going to be completely okay. Start here if you want. That’s going to be okay but make sure you are ready to invest days in the other stories because it is going to be addictive, regardless of where you start. However, even though there isn't a spoiler for previous books or future books or anything in between. It is all necessary to keep the plot line of this book moving forward and nothing more.

I love the story because it has a very organic feel. The relationship between Kayla and Nick is sweet and hot. I just wanna reiterate that and expand. It’s hella hot. Fan me down these two could set fire to the world and not just the sheets in Nick's sexy four poster...

Nick is so very kind and adorable. He’s not like some of the others because he is more awkward and wary. It’s very endearing to read a different type of immortal than we are used to. Yes, he’s got baggage but who doesn’t? Nick is perfection because he is very special. He's not the IGs from the previous books.

This story proves once again that Duvall can flat out write. Her writing never ceases to amaze.

Kirsten Potter is amazing as always. She’s perfect as all the characters.

I can’t wait till the next book! Gimme more, gimme more!

Broken Dawn is the 10th book in the Immortal Guardians series. This time around, we get a glimpse into a different part of the country and different Immortal Guardians, Nick and Eliana. Never fear, other beloved characters make several appearances. This one had less of an intrigue, battle feel to it. It's more about two people finding the loves of their lives. There is a little danger that adds to the story, but I didn't feel that was the main focus. I loved Nick and Kayla. They were just too cute together. We also get to know Eliana a little more. She is the focus of the second Aldebarean Alliance book, The Segonian. I can't wait to read that one!!

Usually by now I start to get bored with a series and I want to walk away for a while. I can honestly say that I have never felt that way with this series. I eagerly look forward to every book and devour new ones as soon as they come out. I highly recommend starting at the beginning if you haven't read any of them. What are you waiting for?

I got this audible book first thing this morning. I was super excited to meet new characters outside of North Carolina. This was such a great book. Dianne really did such a great job of pulling the North Carolina crew in while keeping the Houston IGs and Network as their own story. I am so looking forward to more stories and learning about more Immortal Guardians' stories. Thank you Dianne for the wonderful world you have built for those of us who love to live within the pages of those stories.

The world of the Immortal guardians grows

Long time fans know the North Carolina Immortal guardian crew well, but this time it's off to Texas. To meet Nick, he was an unnamed guardian in a previous book.

I really like his character. His shyness about sharing his gift with Kayla is sweet.

Fun story, fast read. Loved seeing so many characters from previous books, appear in this one.

Another wonderful IG romantic thriller! Love Nick! He's just the sweetest!!

If you've never read this series, this could be read on its own. It explains enough about the world and the characters without feeling you're missing too much. It definitely get you wanting more, weather it's starting the series with the first book or rereading from the beginning, ready and waiting for the next one!
