Clio can see the future, but what she doesn’t know about her past could destroy her.

It’s been a year since Clio made her sacrifice to the Deities and embraced her destiny as the Oracle to save her people.

The only family she has left is a brother who wants her dead.

The prince, her oldest friend, is a king with his own agenda.

And the man who once loved her, now hates her.

All she can do is try to forget about Riece, the enemy commander whose heart she broke to save his life, as she serves the Deities. Her days are filled with Visions and bloodshed in a never-ending war against the Untouched. To add to her problems, she must pose as King Derik’s mistress to conceal her forbidden powers from the Emperor’s spies.

When Riece unexpectedly returns to Sheehan with a new and beautiful ally, Clio knows she must put him out of her mind once and for all, but first, they are thrust together into battle against a mysterious Untouched warrior with otherworldly power. To reclaim her city, she must team up with the man she hurt, the man she still loves but can never be with, and finally confront the questions about her origin—questions with answers that Clio may not be prepared to face.

So excited to read this book! Sacrificed, the first book in the trilogy, has been one of my few five star reads this year, and I recommend it to all Fantasy lovers.

I was fortunate enough to read an ARC of Forsworn! From the characters to the settings to the deadly battles, everything readers loved about Sacrificed comes back in full force during this second book in The Last Oracle trilogy. Overall 5/5 stars; this series is a MUST-READ!!!

6. Jaw-dropping. Stars.
The first book in this series ended with a MASSIVE cliffhanger where I gave up my heart. I should've never gotten it back because this book destroyed me even more.
This started a year after the first one ended and we were introduced to new characters either threatening or fighting for Sheehan, Clio's city. This book had non-stop action and plot twists that had the air knocked out of me multiple times. Every page was even more intriguing and intense than the last and I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't experienced it.
My emotions in the first book were an emotional roller coaster ride but they were multiplied by 3 in this one. I was giddy with excitement, fuming with hatred, scared of the unknown, fainting with love-struck eyes (for RIECE!!!!!), cheering at Clio's badassery, breaking at Clio's grief, and so much more. I could go on for years and years, trust me.
So, speaking about Riece. God-freaking-almighty. RIECE!!!!!! I have no idea how to put into words the intense emotions I feel towards him. Jeezus. The pieces of my heart kept repairing but shattering into smaller pieces times infinity whenever he showed up. AHH!!!! I love that man. I need more of that man. I need him so much that I do harbor a tad of jealousy towards Clio but I still love her. She's too badass to hate. Her story keeps unraveling as the story continues and it was brutal to my shock system. The power of her character is incredibly strong but at the same time, she's just as human as we are.
Anyway, this book was beautifully tragic. I don't know how to best describe it. Emily toyed with my emotions even more, giving me what I wanted and then taking it back before I was satisfied. I was kept on my toes and all I can say is that everything about the plot in this series is ASTOUNDING. Everybody HAS to read this book... I can't stress that enough. Emily's world owns a huge part of my heart and I love it too much to want it back.
I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE (Riece...)!!!!

I loved the first book, Sacrificed, so I was really looking forward to the next book in the series. Let me tell you, I was blown away. The writing is like poetry and flows so effortlessly. The new characters are rich and have depth, bringing even more emotion to the story. The overall story line is exciting and it's a real page turner. I especially loved the tension between Clio and Riece, their tender contention toward each other is just perfection. The imagination and world building that goes into this series is astounding. Each word captivates and there are so many quotable lines. I'm beyond impressed with Ms. Wibberley and her award-winning writing. If this is just the beginning, I can't imagine where else she'll take us. Bravo!

*caution - gushing and fangirling ahead*

"Do you have any idea what it feels like to try to hate someone you love? It's agony. Beyond agony. It's like there's something deep inside you, eating away at your insides. I couldn't do anything, I was so full of anger. Every day it got worse. Because it goes against my very nature to hate you. Hating you - it's like trying not to breathe."

I have the wonders of Netgalley to thank for introducing me to the awesomeness of Emily Wibberley's writing. Early last year I managed to snag a copy of the first book in this series and fell in love. So in love in fact, that I immediately emailed Emily to let her know. A bit of back and forth and the next thing I know, Emily is asking me to be a beta reader for the next installment. A chance to read the book before anyone else, and have input about it? What on earth was I going to say? No? Not a bloody chance in hell.

So I beta read it, gave my thoughts and looked forward to reading it when it was published. Then I forgot about it, because life and reasons.

It wasn't until the cover reveal for the third book came through that I was finally prompted to read the finished edition of this book and it has surpassed my every expectation.

Clio. She's one of my all time favorite YA protagonists. I think it's a tie between her and my love Alexis. But fark. Clio. She's matured a lot since the first book and while she still makes some stupid decisions she is a much more sensible young woman, and with the weight of the world on her shoulders, I think she is doing a pretty great job of handling all the issues she comes across.

Riece. *swoons* GET IN THE MAN DUNGEON, NOW.

Sure. He's a complete asshole for the first half of the book, and usually I would be all like "blah blah I hate love triangles whinge whinge" but this WORKS. It works so well. I love that Riece is an asshole to Clio. I love that Clio is a bitch to him. And then I love that Riece breaks down and says shit like this:

"I thought back to holding you in that Temple, to finally pressing my lips to yours. I think about that every night, and yes it hurt to think I might never have that again, but even the pain was sacred because it was proof that I had something worth living for, worth dying for."

The sexual tension in this was off the chain. Be prepared to sit and wait for the goodness to come, cause Ms. Wibberley sure as fuck makes you wait for it, but when it comes, and it's only kissing, but fuck me, its sizzles off the pages better than some erotica I have read. Lady got skillz for writing the make out times.

There is an awful lot going on in this book. Such story. Very drama. So intensity. Wow.

I do have to say that the pacing is a little off, there is SO MUCH happening at the end of the book my mind nearly exploded because of the information overload. And then we are hit with that cliffhanger which is amazing and I'm not even angry about it because Clio is badass and I love her. But compared with the start, it is a little bottom heavy? Top heavy? Second half heavy? You get the picture.

I seriously don't understand how this book and this series isn't at the top of YA lists everywhere. I love it and I can't bloody wait for the next book to come out.

LOVES

There is no denying the fact that Emily Wibberley is taking the fantasy and action genre by storm with this thrilling, action packed series! This author is one you don't want to miss!

Due to this being the second book of the series and since I am not one for spoiling other readers, I have added two warnings to a large paragraph of my review to avoid spoiling you. Read at your own risk!

Not long ago, I was given the chance to read the first book in this series, Sacrificed. I had absolutely nothing but good things to say about it and I was thrilled to be given the chance to read the second book of the series, Forsworn and let me tell you: this book did not disappoint! From it's stunning cover, to it's intriguing synopsis, to the very words on the pages, everything about it was spectacular and it will certainly be at the top of my favorites list for a very, very long time.

***SPOILERS START HERE****In this second installment of the series, Clio's story continues. It has been a year since since she made the sacrifice to the Deities and embraced her destiny as the Oracle. She also must pose as King Derik's mistress to protect herself and her powers from the Emperor's spies. Recently, her visions from the Deities have been filled with nothing but blood and war from the Untouched, who continue to reek havoc through the cities. But soon after, Clio is touched with an unknown mark that threatens her visions and soon her city and loved ones are now unprotected and in danger. To make matters worse, Riece, the man whose heart she broke to save his life, has returned to Sheehan and he has brought a beautiful young woman by his side, a woman he is betrothed to. But, in order to save her city, she must put her feelings behind her and work together with Riece to go face to face with the hard truth of her origin - something she might not truly be prepared for...****SPOILERS END HERE****

Even better than the first book, Wibberley's writing style captured me from the very beginning. Straightforward and exact, she created an exciting, fast-paced and thrilling story that once again intrigued me from the very beginning and I am positive it will capture even the most reluctant of readers. The author also had a way of connecting you to the story just by the descriptions of her world. From the city of Sheehan to the characters profiles, I could perfectly picture every detail in my head and I absolutely loved that when reading this book.

With our main character, Clio is an such extremely compelling character and easy to connect with due to her fierce intelligence, determination and strength, physically and spiritually. Clio's situation's was one that left me intrigued, yet sympathetic and I am without a doubt sure that other readers will feel the same way. Clio's bravery, maturity, and grace under such horrific and shocking moments also captivated me. Wibberely gracefully captured each of those moments in precise and agonizing detail until Clio's every emotion and thought begin to feel as though they were my own.

One of the last aspects that I loved about this book was that even though this series has romance, it doesn't make it an important priority. Yes, there certainly is romance and there is definitely some steamy scenes, but the author didn't make it an major part of the book and that's what made me love it even more. I wanted a series with a true kick ass heroine, a girl who was strong, passionate and intelligent and didn't rely on a man or change herself for him, and that's exactly what I got and I couldn't be more happy about it!

Forsworn was a riveting and thrilling novel, one that will surely leave you anxious to see what happens next at almost every page. This series is one that I guarantee you don't want to miss out on!

There’s so much that could go wrong with a sequel, particularly when the first installment sets up a wider world for the story and higher stakes the way Sacrificed did so compellingly. So the thrill of Forsworn is in part the deftness with which the author’s realized the promises she set up for us in the series opener.

What’s so special about Forsworn, though, is everything new. This installment handles magnificently the tricky balancing act that is the art of following up a strong, self-possessed debut. It gives readers new everything, including side characters with equally intriguing stories, bigger and more complex villains and the promise of shifting politics and religions in the world of the story, without failing to expand excitingly and maturely on the parts we know and love.

Starting with the start: Clio’s in fine form, both familiar from Sacrificed and interestingly developed into someone with new struggles and new lessons to learn.

Hardened by her experiences in the first novel and her growing understanding of the Oracle’s place in her world, she faces an engaging reversal of her personal development in the first novel: Now comfortable in her brutal efficiency, she learns gradually how to reengage her compassion and question her duties. It’s particularly worth noting she’s a badass female character without forfeiting her emotionality or interiority.

Her position defending Sheehan (with both her Visions and her heightened abilities in battle) draws her into proximity with Daizon, a supernaturally powerful villain who is not what he appears. Clio’s interactions with him outline what emerges to be one of Forsworn’s central themes. From central plot points to fun and funny character introductions, the novel is layered with moments and scenes in which first impressions are deceptive and looking beyond initial inferences is a matter of life and death.

The introduction of several new characters adds intrigue. The Oracle’s three Vessels provide perspective and counterpoint to Clio’s states of mind while keeping distinct personalities themselves. Princess Zarae is complex and self-possessed, just like the heroine, but seems positioned to figure prominently in big military and political shifts set up for the third book, like the priest Nox who’s introduced midway.

But of course, the real fun is with the rest of the Sacrificed cast. Clio’s conflict with Riece is convincing, never melodramatic, though their sweet moments are just as likable as those in the first book. With their ceaseless tension, the story successfully shifts from a love-triangle structure to a more closely centered romantic one-on-one (while Derik continues his own promising development). And a couple other favorites from Sacrificed, who I’ll not name for spoilery reasons, but who, suffice it to say, return in new roles with fun and more complex emotional profiles.

The result is a sequel well spun out of the first installment but independently a great read, with fascinating setup for the final installment but not so much Forsworn feels like an obligatory connector. In short, it's some of the coolest fantasy I’ve ever read.

Forsworn, the second volume in The Last Oracle series (after Sacrificed), is another great, suspenseful, emotionally rich story centered on Clio—a powerful young woman with deeply felt loyalties who is gifted/burdened with visions of the future.

What makes Forsworn so great are many elements also present in Sacrificed: first and foremost Clio, simply an awesome female central character; distinct supporting characters with their own strengths, challenges, and charms; a distinctive Mesoamerican-esque setting; vivid scenes of battle and stirring scenes of romance; and behind it all the Deities, who hover at the periphery of human events, either protecting or punishing, depending on one’s point of view.

The conflicts that drive the action in Sacrificed become more complex in Forsworn. Explanations are offered as to why this civilization is as it is and what should be done, but whose story can be trusted? Are the Deities really as benevolent as Clio has always believed? Can it be that Daizon, a new and brutal adversary, is actually telling the truth when he tries to justify his cruel actions?

Likewise when it comes to romance—things are complicated, and appearances can be misleading. Clio’s formerly close relationship with Derik strains under the stress of his role as king and the pretense that she is his mistress; and although Riece is clearly drawn to Zarae, his beautiful bride-to-be, I wondered until the story’s end about Zarae’s intentions and how Riece actually feels about her, especially in light of his former feelings for Clio.

With all its intrigue and mystery and shifting alliances, Forsworn has me intensely anticipating volume 3 in this series! Forsworn is really a perfect next installment after Sacrificed: it gave me more of what was so fun and engaging in the first book while taking the story completely to the next level. Any YA reader would be advised to pick up this series right away—you will fly through the first two books, and like me, be eagerly waiting for the third!

I liked this book as much as the first one, if not even more.
It starts a year after we last saw Clio in the last book. When we first see her again in this book she seems darker, even more serious than in the last book. Hardened by all she went through. Though she is not cowering in a corner not she is fighting. She is a warrior through and through in all aspects.

Thank you to Emily Wibberley for providing me with an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Find this review and more on my blog The Rest Is Still Unwritten!

Forsworn is the stunning sequel to Emily Wibberley’s captivating debut novel Sacrificed and is a sensational addition to The Last Oracle series; sweeping readers back into a powerful world of magic, deception and romance!

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of reading Sacrificed and instantly found myself falling in love with Clio and her story. Emily Wibberley won me over with her tangible heroine, lush but devious world and thrilling storyline; something she does again with Forsworn! I absolutely adored Forsworn, easily as much as, if not more than the first book!

Taking place a year after the events of the first novel, Forsworn once more unfolds through the eyes of Clio, a brave and powerful young woman who has become her people’s Oracle and who is tasked with witnessing visions of future events. After seeing her family murdered in Sacrificed, Clio has made hard choice after hard choice and has fought to build walls around herself; understanding that to become the fierce Oracle and warrior her people need, she must make sacrifices. Sacrifices that come back to haunt Clio when she man she loves, but had to lie to in order to protect, Riece, reappears in her life at the same time a new enemy appears with plans for Clio. Only by working together can Clio and Riece have any hope of stopping the evil forces that threaten both their cities and to do so it may mean going to war, in a fight they’re not guaranteed to win…..

My goodness, do I ever love this series! Sacrificed left me highly impressed and I found Forsworn to be another fast paced, powerful and highly entertaining story by Emily Wibberley. Wonderfully written, paced and detailed, Forsworn is filled with danger, deception and mystery. There’s powerful sexual tension between Clio and her love interest, thrilling and exceptionally written fight sequences and excellent dialogue throughout the story. I often didn’t know what would happen next and found myself eagerly turning the pages to see what was around the corner!

Set in a fictional land that is best compared to the empires of Ancient Egypt or Ancient Rome, Forsworn really manages to drag you into Clio’s story once more. Almost unrecognisable as the young girl we met in the first novel, Clio really has become a hardened warrior over the course of one year, something that surprised me greatly when I first began Forsworn. Don’t get me wrong—I love what Wibberley has done with her characterisation and where she is taking Clio, but it’s quite clear that Clio has been heavily affected by all that is expected of her. That being said, I loved seeing the true Clio reawaken over the course of Forsworn. Wibberley forces Clio to make some tough decisions, not all of them right, but definitely not all wrong, slowly molding our heroine even more. Personally I can’t wait to see how much stronger Clio becomes in the next book!

I’d be lying if I didn’t admit the highlight for me in this series is Clio and Riece and the relationship they share. Call me a hopeless romantic, but there’s nothing better than a vibrant, powerful love story and that’s what we see between Clio and Riece. The wit, banter and attitude that swells between them is so entertaining and I live for the moments they’re together because the tension is just off the charts. So much of what Clio’s done has been to spare Riece, and even though she’s trying to move on there’s no denying her heart is still his. And his hers.

Though they fight, and deny their feelings for one another, seeing Emily Wibberley force Clio and Riece together through extinguishing circumstances makes the novel in my eyes. Oh, I love so many aspects of it—the dark magic, the danger, the power, the ancient feel--- but I can’t deny the thrill that comes from seeing them together, whether they’re at each other’s throats verbally and physically or lost to the passion that simmers between them—Riece and Clio are absolutely perfect together as far as I’m concerned!

The Last Oracle series is wonderfully depicted as far as I’m concerned. The storyline is driven and seems complex. Different elements seem to come together to create a plot arc that keeps me guessing in the most delightful of ways!

Fast paced, exciting and extremely satisfying, Forsworn will keep you captivated from beginning to end and is sure to leave you begging for more. With this chapter of Clio’s journey at a close, I can only hope author Emily Wibberley takes pity on us poor souls and writes super-fast so we can have the next book asap!

I adored Sacrificed when I read it earlier this year. I could hardly wait until Forsworn came out. Now, after reading Forsworn I really want the next book as well. This was such a good book!

Forsworn starts a year after Sacrificed ended. Clio and Derik are defending Sheehan from hordes of Untouched who have been at the gates for a year. Clio is no longer the scared girl pushing her visions away. Instead she is a hardened warrior using her visions to guide her city’s army.

Clio rescued three girls from slavery and they are now her Vessels. To the court Clio is King Derik’s mistress and her Vessels are servants skilled in spying. This is the explanation for keeping Clio close to Derik and a cover story for where the information from her visions come.

After a battle one day all of the Untouched leave Sheehan. A night later an army from Morek arrives. Derik and Clio assume it is an attacking army. However it is Riece returning with his army from conquering other lands for the Emperor of Morek.

Clio still isn’t over Riece and Riece has brought back a foreign princess as his betrothed, Princess Zarae. Things get very complicated with relationships, the return of the Untouched, and the flee from Sheehan.

I enjoyed this book so much. We had almost a completely different Clio. She is almost a completely different character. She is more sure of herself and takes more of an interest in what is happening politically. She is someone important and she knows it. Even if people don’t know the real reason she is important, they know she is. Clio isn’t afraid to be involved and to tell everyone what is right.

Derik is still the young king. He obviously still has feelings for Clio even knowing she cares nothing for him besides brotherly affection. He is in such a hard position. He needs to make decisions for all of Sheehan, putting the welfare of the city before himself. Those kinds of decisions are hard for everyone.

Riece is back! I love Riece. He has such principle and really is always trying to do the right thing. He is intensely loyal to his emperor and a good friend to Derik. Sadly, he isn’t sure what to make of Clio. After the way she treated him at the end of Sacrificed, I’m not surprised.

That brings us to Princess Zarae, Riece’s foreign princess. I didn’t like her a whole lot at first but she did grow on me. She provides an interesting dynamic between Riece and Clio. She really can be rather surprising at times.

I was a little sad we didn’t get to see more of Riece’s sister, Tirza. She had to have fone through a lot in the year the Riece was away. She become so much more independent which is great for her but worries overprotective Riece. I hope we see more of her in the next book.

In all, I loved this book. It was such a good read and I did not want to put it down. I cannot wait for the next book in this amazing series.

I received this book for free from the author for review consideration. This in no way affects my opinion of the title nor the content of this review.

This cover looks better in person than it does online! I think it's one of the coolest book covers on my shelf!

I bought the book without reading the summary because I was just too excited about getting it. I read the summary when it came in and was shocked to find that the book is set a year after ending of the first book (Sacrificed). I immediately started panicking because that meant that Clio hadn't seen Riece in a year and that was not okay for me.

And, speaking of Riece, let's focus on him for a second.
He's brave, strong, and muscular yet he's very loving and soft. When I started reading the book, I was a little pout-y because all I wanted was for Riece to show up again. I wanted things to be okay between him and Clio again. But Clio clearly didn't want that. As soon as he showed up and she laid eyes on him, Clio's emotions came back in a wave. It was wonderful! The sight of him made her feel faint and breathless and shaky. It was a good way to bring Riece back into the story.

But then! SPOILER AHEAD! But then you find out that Riece is traveling with someone else. A woman. And she is engaged to Riece. I immediately wanted her dead lol. I was not okay with that. Not okay at all. SPOILER END.

There were a few new characters as well. Clio took on Vessels to help her protect Sheehan.

The parts between Derik and Clio and Riece were hilarious to read about! I loved it every time they were in a room together because, even when they weren't saying anything, you could feel the tension! It was so...ugh! You could feel that Clio wanted to open up to him but wouldn't let herself because of what she Saw. But also Derik knew that Clio wanted to be with Riece but knew the reasons why she couldn't. And then Riece has no idea that Clio still loves him and doesn't know that the reason she really left him is because she Saw that he was going to die, so he hates her because he thinks she used him! It was so frustrating and exciting at the same time!

The only downfall I saw in this book was that Riece and Clio didn't have enough romantic scenes. I know why; I understand. They are both stubborn and Riece has a fiance now but I mean...C'mon! I waited very patiently and I didn't get much in return! I mean, there were a bunch of parts of them talking/fighting and then, later, kissing and sharing moments but it wasn't enough.
There better be some steamy scenes in the third book, Emily Wibberley, because this book was a tease.

QUICK SPOILER; BEWARE
OH! When Derik finally showed up toward the end of the book, I almost screamed because I knew that he had been marked by Daizon! I was on the edge of my seat during the ending, when they were battling at Sheehan! So thrilling and so exciting! OKAY; NO MORE SPOILER.

Emily Wibberley certainly takes you on an action-packed story that has many twists and turns that you don't see coming. I'm never sure about what's going to happen next! I'm not sure what has me so drawn in, whether it's the characters, the story, or the setting, or all of it! I'm just not sure but I love it and I can't wait for the third book!

I didn't have to read many pages before remembering why I adored book 1, Sacrificed. Wibberley does a fine job meriting her choice of heroine/protagonist, and making her part believable. Clio has grown between the end of the first book and the beginning of this one, obviously, since a year has passed, but still! She is accepting her duty, if not embracing it, *sigh*, and she is no crybaby either, having managed to prove herself worthy of her fellow warriors' acceptance.

Being a romantic fantasy, it's a given that the story is in part a "love-thing" - but, fortunately, it's also a very compelling story, interesting, cunning and action packed, and not only in regards to the various enemies. There's also Clio's past to be unraveled. In fact, Forsworn, comes off even stronger, than the first book, and offers a riveting continuance to the story.

Wibberley tells a compelling tale ... There's ONE time, when a sentence annoyed me: "Her breath escaped her chest's fleshy prison, lost to the tender and violent breeze that whipped her hair from her hood, slapping and caressing her face." But obviously that one phrase is of no importance at all, it's just me being nitpicky, and other than that, there's nothing at all to complain about, the book is simply just awesome and it's all too easy to get lost in the story, and thus forget about prose, or sleep, or one's surroundings and whatnot.

Also interesting characters and some very nice plot twists. I would especially like to praise the characters - All of them, even the villains, are well-developed and three-dimensional. It's nice when the protagonist isn't all perfect, and the villain isn't pure evil! And even the characters in between hold the possibility of being either/or, thus making the story more interesting and less obvious. Clio's growth throughout is amazingly well founded, she's becoming stronger, wiser and more emphatic, and even the romantic parts seem varranted in regards to supporting her finding footing and growing into the kinda person she wants to be. Furthermore this romance is rather likable, and definitely not mushy-annoying.

It kinda reminds me of Marie Rutkoski's The Winner's Crime. Though the two aren't in any way identical stories, Forsworn do have likenesses to some of the greatest parts of TWC.

Anyways, if you like alternate worlds - read it! If you like great characters - read it! If you like romancy - read it! If you like awesome fighting sequences - read it! Same goes if you like fantasy, but you might want to make sure to read Sacrificed first, as to not miss out on anything.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the second in a series, and it is essential that you begin with Sacrificed for this book to make sense. Sacrificed left me a little deflated and a lot expectant, so I was happy to finally get my hands on the sequel. I was a little surprised by Clio who seems battle hardened and calculating when this book opens. She isn't the girl who ran from her fate in the first book, and that seems to be one of the major internal and external conflicts in the book. I have to say she was a little harder to like initially, but eventually I found myself understanding her motivations more clearly and giving her a little more leeway. Riece, too, wasn't the dashing hero we left behind. His return - thank goodness it wasn't too long coming - is clouded by a new piece of arm candy. Typical boy. They are still so drawn to each other, but they are both fighting to protect their hearts in this go around. This makes for a little more drama and angst than I like, but it is kind of expected, and I'm glad the author gave them the time and space to believably come to terms with their relationship. I think most readers are snapping this book up for the romance, but there were actually a lot of answers about Clio's family and the origins of the oracles in this book. This is important because it keeps the momentum going in the series and prevents the story from becoming too dependant on Clio and Riece's relationship. I have to say that this book didn't sweep me away quite as much as Sacrificed did, it felt politics heavy to me and I'm not sure if that is even fair to say - it is just how I saw the majority of the manuvering in this one. There is still plenty of action (and kissing), and new allies and old enemies turned and twisted the plot in good ways that I didn't see coming. It makes me really anxious to see where the next book is going to take me! I think my high school students who enjoyed Sacrificed will be delighted to get their hands on this sequel, and when they finish, they are going to start pestering me for the release date of the third. Language and situations are appropriate for grades 7+, but adults will enjoy it as well.

Forsworn!!! I got a chance to read an ARC of this book. It's will be released on july 21st and it's the second book in the The Last Oracle series. The first book is Sacrificed. It's an amazing fantasy ya series, with wonderful characters, especially the girls in the book are so bad-ass.

So on to the review, it's a bit spoileryespecially since it's the second book in the series but oh well, I can't help myself.

Most of the time when I truly love the first book, there is a 99.9% chance that I will be let down by the next book. But holy heckles, I loved this book even more.I just really love that these books are so fast paced. Even in the quieter moments, there are still so many things happening.

We also got some new characters. Clio's vessels. Ashira, Ixie and Lireen. I love their relationship with Clio so much, it's wonderfully written. We also get princess Zarae, right from the beginning, I was hoping that she would turn out to be one of the good people, cause I really loved her right from the start. And Tirza was back. She was one of my favorite sidecharacters in the first book and she remains that in the second one. She is just wonderful.

Riece and Clio. I just love these two so much. The remind me so much of an old married bickering couple. It's just wonderful.
What I loved about the book was the backstory that we got, that we found out some things about Clio's mother. That we learned more about the origins of the Untouched. Also more about the Deities and how things with them work. Really unsettling on how they make sure that there will always be new girls born with the sight.

I truly recommend that book, the whole series, for me personally it's one that I want to read over and over again.

Forsworn is the second book in "The Last Oracle" series by Emily Wibberley and readers who liked the first book will also like the second one. I loved the first book, because it was well written and has a different setting than other books. The second book is just as well written as the first, but I did not like it as much. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was never hooked to the story as with the first one. The pacing is fast and the reader learns more about the history of the oracles and the deities. That part I really liked. But the romance part, in my opinion, totally fell flat. I was expecting so much more, especially as it was such a strong point in the first one. I was actually a little annoyed by Clio when she was in her "I love him but I can't have him" mood, she was wallowing in that mood way too often. So I did not like the romance part, but I loved the addition of a new character: a foreign princess, who seems to be weak and helpless, but there is a lot more to her.
All in all, a good sequel but not as good as the first book. I am looking forward to book 3.

This is a show stopping book. I loved the sequel even more than the first book which is really rare for me. Clio is almost like a new character. She has embraced her destiny and willing to try it a new way. It was a great change of pace. It was interesting to see the Clio develop but I missed her from the first book. You do get to see glimpses of the old Clio. I was pretty much on the fence after the first book whether I was team Derik or Riece. I have decided I am totally team Riece. I love how snarky he is with Clio. He really makes me laugh and I always picture him with a playboy smile. This book flowed so smoothly. I devoured it so fast. I am anxiously waiting for the next book. I am excited.

Wow. I loved Sacrificed, and I definitely loved Forsworn. At first, I was rather shocked by the Clio vs. Riece feud, but I got over it with them.

Emily Wibberley is a very skilled writer. She reveals so much more as Forsworn reaches it's ending, and I love all the revelations and secrets brought into light as well as the mystery that accompanies them.

I definitely admire Clio. She is stubborn, brave, and will do anything for the people's she loves. I can't wait for Book III, and I'm excited to see what comes with it.

I so did not see any of that coming! I loved Sacrificed and to return to this world just made be really happy. From the characters to the setting to the plot, every page kept me hooked throughout the story. I wasn't sure how this was going to top Sacrificed in any way but it did and I loved every single minute of it! Emily Wibberley is an amazing author who gave us such an amazing series!

Definitely an improvement from the previous book which I read 2 years ago and completely forgotten.

Fortunately this was filled with enough action and adventure that I managed to pick up the story again without the need to re-read the 'The Last Oracle' (though I needed to read a few reviews with spoilers to recap what happened). The ending is much more satisfying and I'm inspired to continue on with the next book.

No matter how frustrated I got with Clio (she really drove me nuts with so many of her decisions) or with what was going on between her and Riece, the story was great enough to hold me and wanting more. Something was always happening plus we learn a lot more about the history of the Oracles and their deities. And at the end we get a pretty interesting surprise about Clio's mother.

Much like the first book though, I still had a hard time remembering how young Clio is sometimes. She has changed a lot since the last book that's for sure. With her decision to stay with Derik she has gained a title that sometimes is harder for her to deal with than others. As the king's mistress she is allowed many freedoms and is able to pass off her visions as info from her spies. The title she most embraces though is that of a warrior. She has most definitely become a fierce warrior and even the soldiers respect her. Sheehan has been under siege by the untouched and she uses her Sight to know where they would be attacking from and allowing the soldiers to keep them out. Leading them is a fierce marked warrior that enjoys the kill immensely. When he is seemingly defeated, the kingdom celebrates but Clio is still on edge. And that's when Riece comes back into her life. And he's not alone.

I definitely still love Riece. He hasn't changed nearly as much as Clio, though he tries. Mostly by getting engaged to a princess. He quite enjoyed Clio's jealousy despite how much she denies it. For the longest time they are pretty much at each other's throats and that's what frustrated me the most. I just wanted Clio to tell Riece the truth and for the two of them to get back together. But even with their hostility there are moments where the two of them are almost like they used to be.

When a false vision leads to the downfall of Sheehan, Clio flees along with Riece and her three vessels. Along with Riece's betrothed who pretty much over night becomes Clio's friend even though she had hated the princess with a passion until then. They travel back to Morek and things quickly go downhill. After seeking out information, Riece is arrested and Clio ends up being dragged with him (all be it willingly). What was going on behind the scenes of court at Morek was something that Riece had never thought about but things were manipulated to get him tried for treason. I really liked how that whole thing went down and worked out. And I am quite curious as to what the future will be like with what was bestowed upon him there.

The reason that Clio and the others went to Morek was to get Riece's army back. See, the marked warrior I mentioned earlier is actually pretty much a fallen deity. He wants to use Clio in order to get revenge on the other deities for a huge wrong done to him in the past. After sharing his side of the story with Clio, I sure was leaning more toward believing him over the deities that Clio listens to. But not Clio. She keeps telling herself that she has made her decision and will remain their loyal servant. It's not until the very end when she learns more from an unexpected girl that Clio wakes up to a truth that she didn't want to see. And with that she makes a declaration that I was glad she did because it was about time.

"Sometimes I look at you, and I still see my Clio. But I have to remind myself that she was never real -only made up of your lies."
Lets take a moment to appreciate that cover!!! Love the badass chic warrior on it and it sure does represent Clio, our leading lady to the fullest in this story!

Now, this is one of my favorite series of 2015 from the debut Author Emily Wibberley. I was honored to receive book two for my honest review. (Thank you!) If you haven't read book one, it is a must! (review is on my Goodreads/blog)

Clio's story continues in book two. She is now the Oracle, a wanted person for sacrificing in the city of Morek and is the mistress/advisory/Warrior to King Derik. Riece has become Commander of his city once again, Morek, and is on his own mission - away from Clio. (Book one Clio left Riece - tragic)

"The Untouched follow me, but as you've no doubt noticed by my remarkable powers of articulation. I am not one of them. My name is Daizon."

The Untouch still reek havoc in their cities but this time it is with the aid of a Diety. Clio is branded by an unknown mark, threatening her visions. Before she knows it, it is to late and the city is no longer protected. Seeking the help of Riece, Clio is determined to avenge her city. BUT it is not that easy with an almighty Dieties threatening her way, hiding from the Emperor, AND putting up with Riece's betrothed. (Yes I said it!! <-- be ready ladies)

"And now we'll die together, executed side by side on the pyramid where we first met. I suppose the ending is rather fitting."

Why I still LOVE this series:

-The action is non stop! It's always moving and throwing in different obstacles making this story a quick one to read. The twist that Ms Wibberley threw in here - building up for book three is pretty epic. I can't wait to see what the future has for Clio.

-It leaves lasting thoughts. You know some books that you think about after their done with about a week ago and still thinking of them? That is this story!

-Riece and Clio's chemistry is one of my favorites to read. I love Riece! He is still the wise ass, over protective warrior. I must admit, I wanted to strangle him the first half of the story but he came back around. If you want a swoon worthy character - look no further, Riece is everything!

"Riece sat up, rubbing his neck where her blade had been. "Maybe you should, I don't know, look before you tear someone's throat out?"

-Clio! Clio comes out with full vengeance in this book. She is no longer frail or soft. NO. Dressed in armor, daggers, and has a three vessels that are just as fierce as she is, Clio is entertaining and taking names.

-It's not a cliche of Fantasy! It's in its own world with re-freshen characters. If you like kick ass females - this is the book for you!

"The Oracle must pair with a Deity. He gives her more children capable of bearing Sight."

Favorite Quote:

"Bravery is looking at the world around you, and seeing each moment for what it is- a choice."

Just like the original book, I should have read this much sooner than I actually got around to it. I had already bought the last book in the series (Divined) before I even started this. But after reading the first one I knew I'd have to know how this story finishes out. My plan is to read Divined next on my kindle. Now I can't take my kindle to work so I'll be reading something else at work but I will most likely be reading two books at once because now that I've finished Forsworn, I definitely feel that urge to pick up the final book in the series. I'm quite glad in a way that I did wait as now I don't have to wait for the finale. I can just immediately start it. Yay.

Now a lot of times I'll have issues with a second book in a trilogy. It's usually full of b.s. drama and wishy washy feelings about their epic love. I found that I didn't have those issues with this book. Now yes, you could probably call this a bit of a love triangle, but honestly? It didn't really come across that way. The "rival" Princess Zarae may actually be one of my favorite characters in the series. She's such a fantastic and well written character. I certainly hope we get to see more of her in Divined. She has a multitude of layers and she's such fun to read about. I don't want to spoil much about her but she's awesome.

I really liked the depth put into the story in this novel. The questions it brings to Clio. Are the deities really telling the truth? Whose side are they on? Are the decisions they are trying to push onto Clio the correct ones? Correct for who exactly? What would happen if she doesn't follow their will? Is it all just a trick to get her to doubt the deities and destroy her city? I absolutely loved the growth we saw in Clio during this novel. Plus we got a plethora about her mother's past and Clio's father. *gasp* I could barely stop reading it.

The pacing of the romance was on point. I really felt it had a realistic feeling based upon the ending of the first book and I couldn't be happier. Riece was swoon-worthy as per usual and their relationship just feels so...perfect. They fight, they agree, they argue, they forgive. I loved every moment.

We have quite a bit left for the last book in the series. Quite a bit of mess to clean up, a few loose ends to tie together. I cannot wait. Especially after reading the last chapter of this book and the blurb for the next. I allllmost started reading it instead of writing this review but I didn't want to get too absorbed and not write a review for this one. It is stunning and so fresh and unique from a lot of the YA I see nowadays.

Recently, I was able to read an advanced copy of Forsworn, the sequel to Emily Wibberley’s book, Sacrificed. Often times, the second book in a series doesn’t live up to the first. But I would say in the case of Forsworn, it far exceeds the original.

The story takes place a year later from the end of Sacrificed. The main character, Clio, has fought in many battles and is now a seasoned warrior. She is also (secretly) the Oracle. Using visions of the future provided by the Deities, Clio fights to keep her city safe from the Untouched. Does fulfilling her role as Oracle mean she has no free-will of her own?

The villains of the book start out as straight-up baddies but as the story unfolds we learn that nothing is black and white. When listening to Mannix, Daizon, and Vazuil, all are convincing in their reasoning that they are in the right. Their methods and goals may be questionable, but they truly believe in their cause. I enjoyed the ambiguity and complexity of these characters.

This book also brings in several additional female characters: Ashira, Ixie, Lireen, (Clio’s Vessels) and Princess Zarae. The relationships between all these women bring added texture to the story. Clio starts out thinking that, in order to survive, all women must be warriors like her. Some of the women do become accomplished fighters, but Clio also learns that people can possess other gifts that are just as valuable. She learns from these women. One of my favorite quotes from the book is when Clio tells what she learned from Ashira, “Bravery is looking at the world around you, and seeing each moment for what it is-a choice.”

The action is fast-paced with romance and intriguing plot twists. It will make you pine for the release of Book 3 (Soon Please!!!).

Forsworn was a delight to read. As someone who's been struggling to find a plot that captivates me long enough recently, Wibberley provided me with the perfect place to dive back into books.

Clio, continuing from Sacrificed, is still the strong, spitfire, headstrong girl she was. I loved seeing how accepting the mantle of the Oracle changed her, and it was great to see her relationship with Derik evolve and change.
Most important to me, though, was see Clio flourish on her own. Yes, she is pining after Riece (and, really, who can blame her, right?), and yes, she still loves him. That doesn't stop her from carrying on with her life without him, and kicking some serious butt. It also doesn't stop her from running into his arms the second the opportunity arises. I love that, that we were able to see Clio act on her own, that she was perfectly capable - if reluctant and saddened - to live without Riece, before we got thrown back into the romance.
And I absolutely loved her relationship with Ashira. The speech at the end, about how being strong doesn't mean being hard and unfeeling was truly beautiful, and a message young girls should be told more often. You can still be feminine and be strong and independent (part of the reason why I'm absolutely in raptures over Zarae, I think haha).

Diazon was a surprise, and, while I'm glad that was sorted, I also love the can of worms he managed to overturn while he was still kicking; I'm looking forward to what this will all mean to Clio going forward.

ps: in case you were wondering, I'm in denial over Lireen. And I never not will be.

This book was wonderful (although not quite as great as the first one) but I found myself confused for the firs 75 pages wondering why Riece and her were at odds.

Like the jealousy part I get...

jealousy

But the hatred...seems...forced really.

And poor Prince Derik - he loves her so but he just never measures up. We love you but we love Riece more. And so does Clio.

This book takes us much closer to the truth though and we leave the book with a better sense of closure than we had in book one.

I will admit that the bad guy in this book is FAR FAR FAR better than inbook one.

bad guy

Very good read and I a eagerly awaiting book 3.
