Maybe #1.5

Maybe Not

Rate this book
Colleen Hoover, the New York Times bestselling author of Maybe Someday brilliantly brings to life the story of the wonderfully hilarious and charismatic Warren in a new novella, Maybe Not.

When Warren has the opportunity to live with a female roommate, he instantly agrees. It could be an exciting change.

Or maybe not.

Especially when that roommate is the cold and seemingly calculating Bridgette. Tensions run high and tempers flare as the two can hardly stand to be in the same room together. But Warren has a theory about Bridgette: anyone who can hate with that much passion should also have the capability to love with that much passion. And he wants to be the one to test this theory.

Will Bridgette find it in herself to warm her heart to Warren and finally learn to love?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

Oh my god I can't read one more single word without combusting from rage. Let me start off by saying a couple of things:

1.) I am not bashing this author, and I am not trying to bash her work, I'm trying to make those who read this review understand the importance of the issues I found here. In fact, I don't blame the author one bit.

2.) Maybe Someday is one of my favorite books, and I was expecting to love this. I don't want anyone to think I went into this with any kind of biased mindset.

Now, on to my review.

This book was horrific. I don't mean that as a slam, I mean that I was genuinely horrified by the content of this book. The whole first half of the book (which was all I could get through, and believe me, I really was trying to finish it) was nothing but sex. But that's not even what really bothers me...what bothers me is that the scenes are full of domination and attempting to make violence "sexy". THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF RAPE CULTURE. In fact, one sex scene in this book IS a rape scene, even though it isn't presented that way. When you are doing something sexually to a person and they tell you to stop multiple times, YOU STOP. 100 percent, no questions asked. Why the hell does this even have to be explained right now? I'm not saying this author wrote these scenes with the intention of it being rape or having the scenes encourage rape culture...I know that she didn't. However, that's the problem. The problem is that people don't even realize it's a problem, and that's the worst thing about it. People aren't even aware of rape culture and what it represents.
Warren's thoughts and actions are NOT okay. In the beginning of the book he is constantly assuming that Bridgette wants things without her actually saying or doing anything to confirm it. I can't even list all the moments that prove my point or I'd just be re-posting the entire novel.
I am just so upset and disappointed in this book. I expected more.
*sigh*
I'm sorry if my review seems harsh, but this is a serious issue in our culture today that we are putting up with when we shouldn't be. The fact that we have allowed this for so long that so many people accept it and think it's okay, even normal, is truly saddening. People think it's sexy because it's being presented that way. There is absolutely nothing sexy about violence.

Not sure I am going to do a review. Sex, Sex, Sex.... more Sex..... I think as an "older" reader I need some sort of "theme", an "interest", a "subject matter", in my books... Boy meets Girl, Boy fucks Girl, Boy hates Girl, Girl hates Boy - just doesn't do it for me anymore.... Scrooge much, Maura????? Five Stars... no fucking way.... Jeez, I think I am getting cranky in me old age!!! I LOVED Maybe Someday so maybe my expectations were too high.

Colleen Hoover surprised us with this novella, and in the best way! If you’ve read Maybe Someday, you know Warren. Warren was the most memorable and also my favorite character from that book. He’s like Daniel from Losing Hope. One of those side characters you just have to know more about. I am so thankful that CoHo decided to give us a little something from his perspective! His story with Bridgett.

Being in Warren’s head was a treat. He is just hilarious, yet sweet and sexy at the same time. I knew I would love him even more in this, and I was right. Then there is Bridgett. The things I remember most about Bridgett is that she works at Hooters, she’s kind of bitchy, and has a love hate relationship with Warren. I’m glad we got a little more insight on what is going on in her life. And I’m also glad we found out what was up with Warren’s porn fascination.

 photo 93b30cef-8e95-4660-8c0b-ce63096b6727_zpsa416b711.jpg

Warren and Bridgett start as roommates thrown in together unwillingly. Then things change between them. It’s hard to describe. Are they friends? Boyfriend/girlfriend? Is it just sex? Or is more brewing between them....

Maybe Not is a quick and fun read I highly recommend for fans of Maybe Someday. It’s full of humor, but it also has an emotional side. And Colleen Hoover brought the heat in this one! I loved the steamy scenes. The writing was fantastic (I knew it would be) and the only thing I would change is that I wanted more! A novella just wasn't enough for these characters. I'm greedy. I wanted a full length book ;)

My thoughts in a nutshell
Awww, this was so cute and enjoyable read. Seriously, Colleen Hoover is the new adult genre's goddess!

What impressed me the most 😊
Coho is one of my favorite author in the romance genre. I would always get lost in her books. Colleen's writing style is so gripping and flawless.
I love Warren. He is an asshole but in a good way. In the beginning, Bridgette was a bitch but in the end, I liked her too.
Two years ago I read the first book -> Maybe Someday (Maybe, #1) by Colleen Hoover and I was afraid I lost all my memory of the story, but no. I remember vividly all the things that happened, and it was a surprise for me. Usually, I don't remember books or I remember a little piece of the concept.
Fun fact: In average, I struggle with the series because I have no idea what happened in the first book when I want to read a sequel. I'm dumb. It is so bad, I don't know what's wrong with my brain.
The book has a lot of sex scenes. I hate that, but here, it doesn't bother me because Colleen did it in an intelligent way. She gave me a little sneak peek and that's it. The narrative goes on. I'm very grateful for this. Thank you, Coho that you are being a romance queen.
I'm happy because I meet at Ridge and Sydney again. I was a huge fan of Maybe someday. I don't know why I was waiting for a long time to read the short story, but it's absolutely worth it.

“The only difference between falling in love and being in love is that your heart already knows how you feel, but your mind is too stubborn to admit it.”

“I don’t want you to change, Bridgette. I’m not in love with who you could be, or who you used to be, or who the world says you should be. I’m in love with you. Right now. Just like this.”

Make a conclusion
I gave it 4 stars because it was short. LOL, I know this is a short story, but nah. Well, you know.
I recommend it to anyone who wants a short, fun read from the queen, but you should start with Maybe someday. If you have read that and liked it, I definitely recommend this novella.

Atmosphere collage aka. how did I imagine the book vibes?

“She’s nothing I’ve ever wanted… And absolutely everything I need.”

This was a fun, sexy surprise treat from Colleen Hoover giving fans of Maybe Someday a look into the love, pranks, and general hilarity of Warren’s life as he falls for the last girl he ever thought he could love.

While you can certainly read this spin-off novella on it’s own, I personally would highly recommend reading Maybe Someday first. Not only does that book tell a gorgeous, unique love story, but it’s also one of my all-time favorite 5-star standalones. A top recommendation for every single romance reader.

I read this in one sitting! I don’t want to tell you too much about it though because it’s a quick read and I think it’ll be way more fun to just discover it for yourself!! For anyone who doesn’t remember, Warren is one of Ridge’s close friends and his roommate. When Bridgette comes to live in their house, his whole life is turned upside down by this angry girl who invades his bathroom and seems to hate him.

“I feel like I’m two different people right now. I’m a guy who finds his new roommate insanely attractive, but I’m also a guy who can’t stand to be around his bitchy new roommate.”

But this doesn’t deter him. One prank leads to another, and then one kiss leads to so much more…

“I can’t inhale, no matter how hard I try, because the need to kiss her has taken over… I need her air. I kiss her so desperately, I forget that I’m still mad at her.”

The sparks flew and this fun enemies-to-lovers novella kept me smiling. Maybe Not shows us a light-hearted, sexy side of Colleen Hoover’s writing and is a real treat for fans of Maybe Someday! :)

Was there a story somewhere between all the insults and sex???
Like everyone in the book keeps telling, the heroine is truly a bitch and Warren is kinda dumb in a cute way, if you don't mind a guy who porn-stalks his roommate! Their constant bitching was less funny and more annoying. Would have gladly DNF'd this had it been more than 100 pages.

A easy & fast read! I liked this one a LOT better then Maybe someday. Warren & Bridget are such a unique & cute couple. It was cool to see what was going on from their POV with their relationship during the Maybe someday timeline. Overall a fun, spicy, & quick read

We knew Warren and Bridgette from Maybe Someday, but here there are a lot of stuff that we didn't have many details.

Here we can learn a little more about Bridgette and her reasons for being the way she is, although I don't like it. Having a difficult life doesn't give you the right to pay it with people who are not to blame, but everyone faces problems differently.

We learned the reason for the addition of Warren to porn movies. It's a little funny. It's amazing Warren's tenacity to stand Bridgette and try to achieve what he wants from the first moment he saw her: to be in a relationship with her. It was like love at first sight, but everything done upside down, first sex, sex and lots of sex and at the end first date and holding hands.

If you read Maybe Someday, and liked Warren as much as I did, then you should read this novel. Above all, it is narrated from his point of view. I think that at this moment everyone should know of my predilection for books narrated by men. They are the best!

✨✨✨

This was dreadfully terrible. I'm not sure if I've ever simultaneously been this bored and this annoyed.

Warren was literally awful. He was a complete creep and a complete bastard. He was delusional, crazy, entitled and nasty.
I would legit be scared of a guy like this, and I would almost pity Bridgett for being stuck with him if she wasn’t entirely insane and completely exhausting as well.
It’s just that I hated this dude so fucking much.

The relationship also did nothing for me but make me uncomfortable. It was toxic, weird, puke-inducing, and literally did not make any kind of sense.
The smut legit had me on the verge of tears; it made me want to die. It was not okay at all.

Honestly, this whole thing was just the absolute worst.

”She’s unexpected, and I like that.”

description

This novella is Warren and Bridgette’s story which takes place during the time period of Maybe Someday. Warren is Ryder’s funny roommate and Bridgette is the bitchy Hooter’s waitress who recently moved in.

Warren and Bridgette have fantastic banter and sexual chemistry…

”You probably fuck like a limp noodle.”

“I fuck like I’m Thor.”

Slowly Warren breaks through physically and then emotionally with Bridgette and the end result was very sexy and sweet.

”She’s nothing I’ve ever wanted in a girl. And absolutely everything I need.”

Overall, this was a very short read which ends at 80% mark. For me, this novella didn’t bring anything new to the table like Colleen Hoover's other books but it was entertaining.

”I can’t believe I’m falling in love with such a stupid, stupid asshole.”

4 WARREN STARS! ★★★★

"She's the best worst thing that's ever happened to me."

Jasmine Trivia 101: Whatever this lady writes, I read it as soon as it releases even at the expense of my job. Colleen Hoover is my "drop everything right now to read" author and even if I didn't love Ugly Love, my faith in this author never wavers. So imagine my surprise when this was dropped out of nowhere and when I heard it featured my most fav character from Maybe Someday, EVERYTHING IN LIFE IS PUT ON HOLD AND I DO A HAPPY DANCE.

If you've read Maybe Someday and have already met Warren and fell in love with him like I did, then Maybe Not is CoHo's way of sending you that early Christmas gift you've been dying to get your hands on eventhough you haven't been a nice kid this year ;) On the contrary, this was like a naughty version of Maybe Someday wrapped up with so much humor and wit!

Told entirely from Warren's POV, this book NEVER had a dull moment. We all remembered Warren as being the master prankster and for his endless porn-watching days (psst, there's a reason for this *winks*), but being in his head definitely opened up a whole new side to him. I loved how shamelessly entertaining his thoughts were and there was no shying away from his cocky, ego-boosting ways which just made me love him so much more.

"If you have sex with me, Bridgette, you're the one in danger of becoming clingy. You'll want so much of me, I won't be able to tell the difference between you and Saran Wrap."

And there's Bridgette who let's admit, didn't exactly leave as good as much of an impression in MS but in this one, readers will finally get to see more of her and boy, is she one hard nut to crack! She definitely challenged Warren in more ways than one that brought out the steam factor to a CoHo all-time high!

Of course with a novella, the main challenge is being the relationship build-up and while I definitely wished for more (note: the book ends at 80% mark), CoHo still played out Warren & Bridgette's relationship with just the right pace without coming off completely rushed or unrealistic. There are times where it leaves you a little frustrated but sooner than later, you can't help but fall for these endearing characters.

“The only difference between falling in love and being in love is that your heart already knows how you feel, but your mind is too stubborn to admit it.”

In a true CoHo fashion, Maybe Not was a nice quick heart-warming read packaged together with a swoon-worthy male lead and an added bonus of humor with some steam to go along. After being letdown by her previous work, this one definitely redeemed it for me & I absolutely devoured it within hours!

And while this is a spinoff novella of Maybe Someday, I'd like to emphasize that it's NOT a rehash of that aforementioned book :)

Maybe Not is a spinoff novella of Maybe Someday and while it can be read as a standalone, it would be recommended to be read after the first book.

I absolutely loved this little novella!!
When I read "Maybe Someday", I remember really loving Warren. Any guy who is gorgeous and also has an amazing sense of humor, is beyond sexy. I have to admit, I loved him a helluva lot more than Ridge's character.

"Maybe Not" is Warren and Bridgette's story. We never really got Bridgette's back story in the previous book, and in this one we learn she may have a possible connection to one of the roommates. Bridgette definitely has a lot of anger management issues but we learn that she has had a pretty hard life and has never been in a loving environment.

Warren is instantly attracted to Bridgette, not only for her looks, but he's drawn to her mean girl attitude. He is perceived as shallow but in actuality this guy has the ability to see there is so much more to this girl and he makes it his mission to break through her walls.

She's so confusing. She's so frustrating. She's so damn unpredictable. She's nothing I ever wanted in a girl. And absolutely everything I need.

I loved all of his inner monologues and I'm glad that we learn why he was always watching porn, because I thought that was so odd when reading the previous book. The reason is pretty hysterical.

Now I have to mention the sexy times. They were OFF THE CHARTS HOT!!Panties will be melting while reading this one.

My only complaint is that I wish COHO had made it a full length novel instead of such a short novella.

4.5 Warren is a definite yes Stars

I loved Maybe Someday, so when I saw we would get Warren’s story, even if it was a novella, I was so excited. I already loved Warren and now I love him even more. We saw the dynamic between Bridgette and Warren, but I had no idea how funny they both are.

"You kiss like you’re trying to resuscitate a dead cate."

"You kiss like you are a dead cat.”

Their banter had me laughing out loud. In the novella we see the ins and outs of why Bridgette came to live with Warren and Ridge. The story begins before Sydney moves in and we see how Warren’s porn addiction started, and so much more.

A lot times a bitchy heroine can get annoying, but this is short and Bridgette just kept growing on me. Yes, Bridgette is a bitch and comes off a little harsh, and Warren comes off like an egoistical asshole…hey it works!

I loved how steamy things were between Bridgette and Warren. I loved how Warren helped Bridgette find a home and family. I love how throughout it all these two remained true to themselves.

This is such a fun read. I highly recommend reading this one, if you read and enjoyed Maybe Someday.

“ The only difference between falling in love and being in love is that your heart already knows how you feel but your mind is too stubborn to admit it. “

I can’t believe this story coexisted with that of the Maggie-Ridge-Sydney fever! While all the drama and heavy feels were happening, right next room was a totally adventurous, hilarious and maybe even better story about Warren and Bridgette…or Maybe Not. Let’s settle for just as good.^^

It’s such a breath of fresh air especially from CoHo who seems to capitalize (in a good way) on making the readers drown in tears and heavy feels. This is blatantly hilarious and I enjoyed every single part of the story. I also earned a bonus of revisiting the world of the characters I love. I couldn’t erase that stupid smile permanently plastered on my face the whole time I was reading.

This was super cute!!!!!! I wasn't the biggest fan of Maybe Someday, but when I read so many positive reviews on this novella, I had to give it a shot and I'm glad I did! I ended up like it more than Maybe Someday.

Maybe Not is the short story of Ridge and Sydney's roommates, Warren and Bridgette. In this we get to see how they meet, how an attraction builds and then eventually a sexual relationship (and boy do these two hit the sack). There isn't much in terms of a hard plot, but it did focus on the building of a relationship between two people and I really enjoyed reading their journey.

Not much more to say except this book is good for some laughs and for some feels. I highly recommend if you need something light yet fulfilling to read.

Ooooooh boy. Uhhhhh. Yeah.

Alright, so I totally and complete HATED everything which was Maybe Someday - - - - - EXCEPT Warren. Warren made me laugh. In real life I’d want to punch a “Stiffler” type of guy in the babymaker post haste, but in books/movies they tend to crack me up. I thought there was a solid chance I would enjoy Warren’s story. And maybe I would have . . . if there had been a story. There wasn’t a whole lot of substance to this one. Just sex . . .

Too far? Naaaaah. It’s about the equivalent of how the “romance” in this book felt to me. Still, there’s something about Hoover’s writing that is kind of un-put-down-able even when I hate it and I didn’t hate this one nearly as much as Maybe Someday so it gets a bonus star.

My friend Mo didn’t like this one either . . .

“The only difference between falling in love and being in love is that your heart already knows how you feel, but your mind is too stubborn to admit it.”

This one was a bit of mix bag for me. On the one hand, I like the whole enemie-to-lovers premise, but it also felt too juvenile for my taste.

Major kudos for writing a hero who is totally gone for the heroine this time around though. Two of CoHo's latest books involved heroes who were hung up on other girls instead of the heroine, so Warren being totally, obviously in love with Bridgette was a refreshing change. I just wasn't as invested in their story as I was with others though. I don't know if it's the length or the fact that I never got to know Bridgette that much.

But overall, this was a good novella. CoHo fans will surely loved this one but it's just okay for me.

Maybe Not is the novella for Maybe Someday (Maybe 1.5). This book follows Warren, Ridges roommate, and Bridgette who is also their roommate.
Warren was actually my favorite character in the first book and I was so
happy to get a story from his pov. In the first book I was always wanting to hear more about him,  and felt we never got to truly meet him.

I absolutely loved being able to get inside his head. I love hearing all his cocky, comical, and real emotions. Getting to hear Bridgette's story was a breath of fresh air as well. Since all we really knew about her in book one was that she was a super b. (Oh and I don't wanna forget that we find out what Warren's obsession with porn is all about and I LOVED LOVED LOVED the reason behind it! So freaking hilarious. Yeah, never thought those words would come out of my mouth.) Getting to see how their relationship got started before Sydney moved in made a few of those unanswered question from book one so crystal. The banter between the two is what makes this book so unstoppable. It's has the brass and balls most novellas can't seem to master. I can't thank Hoover enough for keeping Warren the same silly ass as he was in the first book. Just loved him so much!

Getting to experience the relationship between Warren and Bridgette might just be the biggest treat I get all year! Their relationship truly is like no other and it had me falling hard. UGH words haven't been invented yet for how I feel about this book!!! This is a quick, witty, and hilariously entertaining story. If it wouldn't have been for the ending of Maybe Someday, Maybe Not would be in a side by side tie. (Because you can't beat Someday's ending). I will say the ending to this book too was just so perfect! Can't stress how much I loved this book!!!

I fell in love with you warren and I'm not sorry about it.

I wish this book would have been a full length novel... Who knows, maybe we'll get more later.

I know, I know!!! I’m the last person to finally read this one. I read Maybe Someday in 2013 and MAYBE NOT was released in 2014 and here it is almost 2017 and I’m finally reading this one. *hangs head in shame*

We met Bridgette and Warren in Maybe Someday and ever since we’ve got a glimpse of these two I’ve wanted their story. Ms. Hoover didn’t disappoint by providing her fans with this novella. Maybe Not parallels Maybe Someday so a lot of blanks are filled in on what was happening between Bridgette and Warren. Plus, the best part is the story is told in Warren’s pov.
“Mean girls are my weakness.” -Warren

Bridgette seems incapable of being nice to anyone. Hearing the reason why she has a hardened outer core helps make her more likable. I loved that Warren was attracted to her even though she was a tough nut to crack.

Their relationship was totally backward. They had sexy times long before they even held hands but that is what worked between these two.

I listened to the audio version. There are few odd spots where the narrator's voice changes. Like they had a voice over. It only happens a couple times so it doesn’t affect my enjoyment of the story.

If you’ve read Maybe Someday then you need to grab this book and read it. It is an entertaining quick story that shouldn’t be missed by those who loved Warren.

WOHLFÜHLBUCH | 5/5 ⭐️

Beendet: 11.02.2022 | Nr. 19

First I have to say that I am not usually fan of novellas - almost every single one I've read so far was only there to fill time between book one and book two, or to remind people to buy "original" book. They don't bring anything new or fairly important, I end up cursing myself for even picking them up. This did not happen with this release.

Maybe Not is a story about Warren and Bridgette, secondary characters from Maybe Someday. The odd couple. The crazy ones who made us laugh. I am so happy that Colleen Hoover decided to surprise us with their story no matter how short it is. I do wish there were more pages, but this was okay too. Better something than nothing, right?

"I don't want you to change Bridgette. I'm not in love with who you could be, or who you used to be, or who the world thinks you should be. I'm in love with you. Right now. Just like this."

All the reasons to read Maybe Not:

- That quote above. If you want more, just read it. I highlighted whole thing in the end.

- Quick, but satisfying read. Unlike many others novellas, you do not feel as if anything is rushed. This is not continuation of the previous novel trough the perspective of other characters. Timeline is the same like in Maybe Someday, but focus of the story is on completely different events. There are couple of scenes you will recognize, but still it is like you are reading them for the first time.

- Warren. Oh my God, Warren! Tanja can we squeeze him into your harem somehow? Do not worry, I will take care of him.

- Hotness overload. But seriously! Colleen Hoover, I didn't know you had it in you. You should definitely write steamier scenes more often. I know that some of you (still) aren't comfortable with reading explicit scenes, so consider this as a warning - Maybe Not is most definitely 18+ read.

- I walked on the clouds all day. Every once in a while we all need one of those "feel good", happy and fluffy reads.

In the end, other than trying to make you read this, I will share just one more quote with you. If this doesn't work out, than you have cold, cold hart.

"I press my lips to hers with such delicacy; I want her to feel everything she's ever deserved to feel at the hands of someone else. She deserves to feel beautiful. She deserves to feel important. She deserves to feel cared for. She deserves to feel respected. She deserves to feel like there's at least one other person in this world who accepts her for exactly who she is.
She deserves to know how I feel. because I feel all of those things. And maybe a little more."

“It’s hard to fall in love with assholes, Warren.”
“Maybe you just haven’t met the right asshole yet.”

Maybe Not was a really fun & sweet read. It's a novella & a spin off from Maybe Someday & I can't describe how excited I was when I heard that we'd have a book about Warren & Bridget. Warren was one of the best characters in Maybe Someday. I loved him so much & I was very excited when I realised that this was written from his POV.

I loved that a couple of things that happened in Maybe Someday were somehow explained in this one. Like for example the reason behind Warren's porn obsession or Bridgette's personality & of course their relationship.

I have to admit that it made me laugh & I was in awe a couple of times. Warren is a really entertaining character and his banter with Bridgette was gold! I was so anticipating to read about their hot angry-sexy moments, because I was expecting them, judging always by their apparent relationship in Maybe Someday.

“You kiss like you’re trying to resuscitate a dead cat,” she says, disgusted.
“You kiss like you are a dead cat.”
“You probably fuck like a limp noodle.”
“I fuck like I’m Thor.”

Thankfully, overall I wasn't disappointed, but the ending.. It was just too sudden. It finished way too early for my taste & I wished we had a little bit more, you know?

PS:I don't know why, but Warren reminds me of another beloved character, Griffin from the Thoughtless series. Maybe they are nothing alike, but I enjoy both of them & looking forward to reading Griffin's book, when it comes out, next year.

5 stars

No my friends you are not seeing things. Yes I loved it. Yes this is in fact another 5 star read from me. Shocking I know!!!

Apart from it being short there really wasn't anything I didn't like. I loved that Bridgette was a bitch. I loved how stalkerish and obsessed Warren became. The sexy time was awesome and it was just a cute fun face-grinning dramaless novella that filled in all the gaps left behind in Maybe someday.

Recommend to readers: who have read Maybe Someday.
