PUNJABI!

Please do not remove the punjabi scripts because it is relavent to peoples names because they are not english peoples. Thanks you --Rajendra Singh (talk) 12:00, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Quoting from WP:INDICSCRIPT, "There is community consensus that the lead sentence of an article should not contain any regional or Indic language script. It is suggested that IPA be used for help with pronunciation. For details, refer to this RfC: Native languages in lead."
As you can see, this is a Wikipedia-wide consensus, not specific to this article.—indopug (talk) 16:25, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Longest serving PM

Singh is the longest serving PM who is not related to Nehru family. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.202.91.132 (talk) 05:37, 10 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Also I'm not sure how encyclopedic this is; I'll leave that to those editors more well-versed in Indian politics. —KuyaBriBriTalk 19:01, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

POV issues

There are various POV issues in this article. We need reliable sources to call Left parties as 'Anti American'. The article states 'Sonia Gandhi unexpectedly relinquished the premiership to Manmohan Singh'.How can it be 'unexpectedly' when Manmohan was the leader of opposition till 2004.--Naveed (talk) 15:28, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Manmohan Singh was(and still) in Rajya Sabha, Sonia Gandhi was in Lok Sabha. If the opposition wins usually the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha becomes the PM. I have not gone in detail of the article but is there no source whihc says that Sonia Gandhi relinquished unexpectedly ?--sarvajna (talk) 16:06, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well if it is for the lead then yes it was a surprise to everyone when Singh's name was announced.--sarvajna (talk) 16:13, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Here's Mark Tully on the subject: "In May 2004, when the Congress returned to power, Sonia Gandhi was expected to become prime minister but to universal surprise declined to accept the post, nominating instead her chief adviser Manmohan Singh"[1], and an entire issue of the Outlook, speaking of Sonia's "sacrifice".—indopug (talk) 16:26, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I think that was my mistake, Thanks for the clarification.--Naveed (talk) 07:04, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 7 June 2013

Singh was first elected to the upper house of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha, in 1991[15] by the legislature of the state of Assam, and was re-elected in 1995, 2001, 2007 and 2013. 120.58.184.77 (talk) 06:02, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

GA criteria

I just saw this one pop up as a GA nom and I wanted to point out a few minor issues before its review. Per WP:REALTIME, words like "recently" should be revised, and per WP:WTW, words like "claimed" should be revised (these are under criterion 1b). Also under 1b, the lead is five paragraphs, where a maximum of 4 are generally allowed per WP:LEAD. Lastly, there seem to be quite a few one-sentence paragraphs in the article, which should be rewritten per WP:LAYOUT (also 1b). Hope this helps! Thanks for your work on this important figure, and good luck with the nomination. -- Khazar2 (talk) 11:37, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • There also seems to be a copyright issue created by this series of edits [2]; a quotation from the BBC is included almost word-for-word, but Suri deleted the quotation marks. Will fix this now. My impression, though, is that this may be a candidate for a quick-fail until more substantive work is done to prepare the article for GA. -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:12, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
