Ina, Kapatid, Anak (1979 film)

Ina, Kapatid, Anak (Literal: Mother, Sibling, Child) is a Philippine television drama that premiered on ABS-CBN in October 8, 2012 and premiere worldwide on The Filipino Channel.[1][2][3][4]

The drama revolves around the lives of Celine (Kim Chiu), Margaux (Maja Salvador), Liam (Xian Lim) and Ethan (Enchong Dee) and their struggles to gain power, acceptance, family and love.[5][6][7]

Production

Conception

Ina, Kapatid, Anak is loosely based on the 1979 film of the same name starring Charito Solis and Lolita Rodriguez and Rio Locsin under Regal Films. It is directed by Don Cuaresma and Jojo Saguin of the fantasy drama, 100 Days to Heaven and written by Danica Domingo of the critically acclaimed melodrama, Tayong Dalawa. The story conference was held in May 11, 2012 where it was officially green-lit for production.[8] The idea of the concept came from the success of previous ABS-CBN dramas, namely Iisa Pa Lamang and Magkaribal which both focused on characters of the high society, it is also influenced by the American television series, Gossip Girl of The CW Network.[9] Filming began in May 18.[10][11]

According to several reports made earlier by the management, the drama was supposed to be Andi Eigenmann's comeback project as an actress after her controversial pregnancy, she was to star opposite Jessy Mendiola.[9] During the course of pre-production, Eigenmann and Mendiola were offered separate projects by the network, Andi with Kahit Puso'y Masugatan[12] and Mendiola with Paraiso,[13] which they both accepted causing them to back out of the project. Meanwhile, Enchong Dee remained part of the series as Ethan, as originally planned, although the roles previously given to Martin del Rosario and Joseph Marco were offered elsewhere.[14] After so much delay in production, ABS-CBN tapped Maja Salvador and Rayver Cruz to play the roles previously given to Mendiola and Joseph Marco,[10] however during filming, the production crew left out Cruz's character as they felt that his character was no longer needed. Meanwhile, Kim Chiu and Xian Lim replaced Eigenmann and Del Rosario in the final casting of characters.[15]

The series marks the reunion of Chiu and Lim as a tandem [15] and Chiu and Salvador as rivals[16][17] after the highly successful romantic comedy, My Binondo Girl for which actress Cherry Pie Picache was also part of, this marks the third time Picache and Chiu working together in one project.[18] It is also Chiu's reunion with Dee and veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez who she once worked with in the Philippine adaptation of the South Korean drama, My Girl.[19][20] Meanwhile, the drama is Dee and Salvador's first on-screen team up.[21]

Promotion

Dubbed as "2012's much awaited teleserye," the first teaser trailer was released on August 30, 2012 via top-rating drama, Walang Hanggan, while publicity photos were released hours later online.[1] Stand-alone teasers for Picache, Janice de Belen, Ariel Rivera, Salvador and Chiu's characters were also released a day after.[22][23] Prior to this, several articles were published regarding the drama in the month of May and April after Enchong Dee who plays Ethan, hinted about the drama in May 12, after being featured in the International Emmy Award-nominated news broadcast, Bandila.[24] The pictorial for Ina, Kapatid, Anak was held on September 7, 2012 following the reveal of the drama's official title card.[25] The official full trailer was released on September 14, 2012 along with the music video of the album's first single, "Ngayon at Kailanman" by Ariel Rivera.[26] To launch the series, the main cast performed live on September 30, 2012 at the Glorietta Activity Center.[27]
