Black

Black is a rock band from Dhaka, Bangladesh. They were one of the very first bands to come out from the underground scene in Dhaka as a pioneer of alternative rock music in Bangladesh. The band has gained popularity over the years for their hook-laden rock compositions.[citation needed].

Formation

Jon, Jahan and Tony used to go to school together and were good friends. Jahan could play guitar a little and Tony was playing drums and Jon knew some songs. So, they started jamming together. Then later Jon and Tony formed Dope Dealers. But they were not being able to run the band. Then Jahan came back. Then they formed Black in 1998 with the five members of Jon, in vocals, Jahan, in guitars, Tony, in drums, Asif, for additional guitar work and Spondon, in bass. They were having trouble with the position of bass. Spondon was not being able to give enough time to the band. Spondon and Asif left the band. Tahsan joined the band when Jon met him. Jon saw him play the keyboard. And he asked Tahsan to join the band, he agreed to Jon's proposal and joined the band in 2000. Black would experience their first taste of popularity with their first single released in the 2000 G-Series label compilation album Charpotro. In November, 2001 Miraz joined the band.

Amar Prithibi (2001-2002)

In 2002 Black would release their debut record titled Amar Prithibi. Work began on the album in fall of 2001, between which they had also released several other singles in compilation albums, and came into completion fall of 2002.[citation needed] Notable singles include "Amra", "Obhimaan", "Amar Prithibi" and "Kothay". The album also displayed Black's earlier heavy music influences in songs like "Kobor" and "Ondhokarer Pashe".[citation needed]The album was considered to be a commercial and critical success.

Utshober Por (2003)

Shortly after the release of Amar Prithibi Black rushed into studio and began working on their sophomore followup Utshober Por. This album was completed at a much shorter time since the band already had enough material left off of Amar Prithibi for a second album. The album was a departure from Black's usually heavy and alternative styling and instead focused on more mellow and folk oriented tunes and dealt with more self-exploratory writing. Notable singles from the album include "Utshober Por" (Title track) and "Shloak", which received frequent playback in commercial radio stations.

Due to the release of their breakthrough debut Black, who had by then become a near household name in Bangladesh, Utshober Por sold much faster. Considering the sudden emergence of piracy in music, the album had sold well enough to have superseded Amar Prithibi. The album was received fairly well by critics despite having sold so well. After Utshober Por being one of the most popular band in Bangladesh Black was cast in a tele-film titled Offbeat. The Band recorded the soundtrack of the tele-film and Tahsan played the lead role in this tele-play.

Abar

Abar is the third studio album released by Black. In cooperation with Warid Telecom at a press conference at Level-7 of Bashundhara City in the capital on July 10. The conference was jointly organised by Warid Telecom and G-Series. Warid Telecom has sponsored the third album of Black. The rock band launched the album after a break of five years. Notable singles include "Manush Pakhir Gaan", "Abar", "Ei Gaan", and "Keno". Before the album was released a documentary was released about the journey of Black. This was produced by Black and G-Series. The Doccumentary features interveiws with Isha Khan Duray, the legendary Azam Khan, Sumon, Tipu and Iqbal Asif Jewel. Iqbal Asif Jewel mentioned that being the sound engineer of their new album he did nothing special. He just tried to capture how they really sounds.
