Playstation 4/Next-gen

Due to the constant edit warring over whether to include Playstation 4 as a confirmed console, I think a consensus should be come to in order to stop the continual addition and reverting. Here's a brief summary of what is known on the topic so far:

  • This is about the best confirmation currently available that BF4 will be released on PS4. Other hints (such as this article) make it sound like a PS4 version is a given.
  • BF4 has not been officially announced by EA. Of particular note is the lack of inclusion on the official pre-order website.
  • Various members of EA saying that BF4 looks good on next-gen consoles is not confirmation that the game will be released for PS4.

It's my opinion that it shouldn't be included until official confirmation by EA, but what does everyone else think about including PS4 as a platform? Samwalton9 (talk) 11:15, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I saw somewhere on the internet that Battlefield 4 had been confirmed for "Next Gen Platforms". I'm quite new to Wikipedia and I really don't know how to reference. But if someone could find it that'd be good.
Take a look at this. If you look at the PS4 Wikipedia article it says in the "announced game titles" section that Battlefield 4 has been announced for the PS4. It's your decision. You can change that Wiki or change this one. One of them is incorrect. FranktheTank (talk) 10:03, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
DICE themselves have stated that BF4 will be a nextgen console title, heck we even know that NG versions will support 64 players on multiplayer. Surely the developers word is good enough?§ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.3.188.185 (talk) 07:20, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly my point.FranktheTank (talk) 08:17, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Some developers have mentioned next-gen; this is not the same as official confirmation of Playstation 4 release. For all we know BF4 might come out on the new xbox and not the PS4, regardless of how likely anyone thinks that is, we haven't had it confirmed. In regards to the PS4 article, officially Wikipedia is not a reliable source, and second that article uses a source which I linked above. Samwalton9 (talk) 08:55, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The Polygon reference clearly states:
"Battlefield 4 is coming to the PlayStation 4, Electronic Arts chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen confirmed at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference today."
So the issue should boil down to whether or not Polygon is a reliable source. I believe it is. Therefore, confirmation from the company's CFO should be acceptable, especially without rebuttal from EA in other news reports – something that would have surely happened by now. --GoneIn60 (talk) 07:39, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I was able to dig up more sources that also confirm the announcement: VG247, Games Radar, EA --GoneIn60 (talk) 08:12, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would contend that none of the articles you linked confirm Battlefield 4 for the PS4:
  • Polygon - Though their opening paragraph states that the game was confirmed, if you read the quote what was actually said was "I'd say between now and E3 you're going to see a lot of stuff from us. We're very excited about Sony's platform. The technical power on the platform is going to allow us to do a substantial amount of things we've never done before. I've seen the new Battlefield and it is stunning. It is just amazing what the imagination of the game developers are allowed to do with that much power." To me this is borderline hinting that has been misconstrued by Polygon to run that headline.
  • VG247 - Does not provide a source for their information on the PS4 release, and are most likely basing their claim on the previous interview.
  • Games Radar - References the next source for their claim.
  • EA - Of Battlefield 4, they say only "At a GameStop company meeting earlier this week, we gave 500 store managers a sneak peak at Battlefield 4." Granted this is in an article which starts with information on the Playstation 4, but I think to assume that therefore the game is confirmed for Playstation 4 is just that; an assumption.
I think that's what my argument boils down to: I don't think that the Playstation 4 should be listed as a confirmed console until EA officially confirm it. Samwalton9 (talk) 09:13, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
While the concern is appreciated, here is what you're overlooking. There are experts in the industry whose opinions carry more weight than yours or mine. The consensus among industry experts appears to be that Battlefield 4 is being released for the PS4, based on the information presented to them. For us to look at that same information and determine a very different conclusion, we are in essence conducting original research to counter their claims. The examples listed above are considered to be from reliable sources. If you are contending that these sources are unreliable, then I suggest you take it to the RSN. I would caution, though, that there are plenty more reliable sources out there. These are just the first few I stumbled across. I think you're going to have a hard time discounting the reliability of so many. --GoneIn60 (talk) 12:34, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here are three more I just found in the last 5 minutes. There are dozens more:
Ok I can understand your point. Do you think it's best left as 'unofficially confirmed' in terms of wording here? Samwalton9 (talk) 16:59, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, seems reasonable to me. I suspect it won't be long until it's official. --GoneIn60 (talk) 18:39, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
