Bot creation

Hi TinuCherian. Thanks again for your AWB instructions. I've had some practice using it for WikiProject tagging and now I was wondering how to start the process of creating a bot like TinucherianBot. Thanks again, Arbitrarily0 (talk) 13:04, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you have gained considerable practice manually in wikiproject tagging with AWB and Kingbotk plugin. Inorder to gain a bot flag please create another account say User:Arbitrarily0Bot ( like TinucherianBot ). Then you need to file a BRFA ( like Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/TinucherianBot 3 ) for the bot task approval and a bot flag. A bot flag enables the account in AWB to use the bot features, mainly autosave, so that you dont have to click save. Make sure you also get AWB access for the new bot account. Let me know if you have any questions or doubts -- Tinu Cherian - 05:33, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I have tagged 75 more articles just to make sure. :) I have created a created another account (Arbitrarily0Bot) as you said. To clarify, do I ask for AWB access first, or open a BRFA first? Arbitrarily0 (talk) 22:17, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Create the BRFA first and then request for an AWB access for the bot account and point to the BRFA there. Btw just a slice of caution. Please be extremely cautious while tagging articles based on catgeories. Using the recursive option of categories to create article list is extremely dangerous. If someone is requesting for the bot service to be used to add a WikiProject banner to the talkpages of all articles in a particular category or its subcategories, please be very careful to check the category tree for any unwanted subcategories. You might not expect Category:World War II to be a subcategory of Category:Thailand, but it actually is, and a bot will find it! It is usually safer to give a complete list of categories that should be worked through individually, rather than one category to be analysed recursively. -- Tinu Cherian - 14:21, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the help TinuCherian. I have opened up the BRFA here. Thanks again, Arbitrarily0 (talk) 23:57, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect ! Let me know if you need any help. There are other AWB based bot task which User:TinucherianBot which you can find them here. You may also do them if interested -- Tinu Cherian - 04:38, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination for adminship

Hi again Tinucherian! On an unrelated note, I've reviewed a number of your contributions and decided that I would be honored to nominate you for adminship. If you're interested, please let me know, and I'll open a nomination page for you. If you're not interested, take this nomination as a commendation for your tireless work on the wiki. I'll be eager to hear from you either way. Best regards, Arbitrarily0 (talk) 00:00, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, thanks a lot for your kind words and sweet offer. Unfortunately I am not currently interested in a RFA myself...Infact many kind wikipedians have offered me to nominate on and off wiki earlier and I have thankfully declined till now. The main reason is that I am happy doing what I do now. I am looking forward for more content building as of now. Also to get a few GAs and FAs for some personal satisfaction. May be in another 6-9 months, I may re-think of me worthy of being an admin :)...Again, Thanks a lot.... -- Tinu Cherian - 05:20, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I completely respect your decision TinuCherian. If you do decide that you are ready in the future, please let me know, as I hope to be first in supporting your request. For now though, keep up the excellent work! Cheers! Arbitrarily0 (talk) 18:29, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit count

To get an accurate count of your edits, you may want to try using http://toolserver.org/~soxred93/count/index.php?name=Tinucherian&lang=en&wiki=wikipedia instead of Kates tool due to the problem with handling the name change of Image to File Dbiel (Talk) 07:39, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I was referrring to this ( instead of sql tools) at WT:EDITS.. Anyways thanks for leaving a note -- Tinu Cherian - 07:46, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Over Smart Peoples of Wikipedia

Hi!! You know why we are not able to expand Mum police and MumFB is due to lack of refrences. With out knowing this fact few people on wikipedia (They are not Indian) says that Articles on Vijay Salaskar, Ashok Kamte, Hemant Karkare are useless articles and should be deleted and says ""the relevant page is WP:NOTMEMORIAL: Wikipedia isn't a memorial site for deceased people. All articles on people who are notable only because they were killed in the Mumbai attacks belong merged into Casualties of the 2008 Mumbai attacks""(This article is not written as a Memorial nor as Homage) read thisSAVE THIS THREE ARTICLES FROM DELETION--Suyogtalk to me! 10:01, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging redirects

Hi. Do redirect pages get project tagged? (Just checking re Talk:Dilliwala). --Regent's Park (Boating Lake) 17:37, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Usually no. TinucherianBot (talk · contribs · count) is taught to follow redirects. but it is applicable only when the talk page is also redirect to the corresponding talk page. And ha, we have do have "|class=Redirect" on the another hand. I added it -- Tinu Cherian - 04:31, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Need some information on Chand Dynasty

Hi I am very interested in the Chand Dynasty. I have read that they had an origin in Rajasthan as the 1st King was maybe a king in Rajasthan and come to Uttarkhand is that absolutely incorrect? What exactly happened how did this dynasty come to an end was it the British? Are there any known remnants ? Did the British make the Chand Kings land owners like they did with the other kingdoms?

Any information will be much appreciated. Thank You slashjamez@yahoo.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by Slashjames (talkcontribs) 01:00, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I dont have much of an idea regarding this. You may post it at WT:INB.... People out there are very good, perhaps they can help you out -- Tinu Cherian - 14:26, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bot

Hey, do you think we can borrow your bot to tag some of our Computer Security articles? I have no idea how to make or use one. Sephiroth storm (talk) 08:18, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problems. TinucherianBot (talk · contribs · count) can help you. Let me know the individual categories or the article list to work on-- Tinu Cherian - 14:24, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question

Hi Tinucherian! Do you think this is right? I may be biased as the person to have created the article. Nevertheless, since the church at Mylapore is not Nasrani the Seven Churches of Saint Thomas cannot be redirected to Saint Thomas Christian tradition. What do you think? Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 22:17, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen this redirect action earlier. Personally it is not a big change as 71/2 churchs of st.thomas == Saint Thomas Christian tradition. But dont worry , I am actually researching on more info of the present existence and other history of these 7 churches. So this is more than the scope of "Saint Thomas Christian tradition" article. Once i have better info , I will myself remove the redirect and add the stuff, so that it is inarguable. On that otherhand church at Mylapore is within the 7 church but deserves mention as other churches believed to related to St. Thomas. Btw Happy Pongal -- Tinu Cherian - 09:26, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks mate. I'll leave it with you, the expert, to deal with this. Cheers Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 12:31, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
:P I am not an expert :) Just interested in these stuff, especially the church history ;) -- Tinu Cherian - 12:32, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh BTW saw you wedding videos on YouTube. Very nice. My wife kept explaining things to me with your wedding video. Shes a Nasrani and am a Catholic from Chennai. For me it was quite informative. :) Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 12:42, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

bot for a very small change

Hello again, could you have the bot change a tag on about 350 articles? I need the {{WPMIX}} template swapped out for the {{WikiProject Mixed Drinks}} tag. The new tag uses {{WPBannerMeta}} so the articles will assess correctly.

  • Swap out all of the {{WPMIX}} tags
  • leave the assessments alone, except where there is |priority=, change that to |importance=
