The WordPress VIP (WPVIP) Platform provides Enterprise-quality security and performance for WordPress and Node.js applications. Learn about the WPVIP infrastructure and how to get your team members up and running to work with your applications.

WPVIP’s infrastructure

To provide Enterprise-quality security and performance, WPVIP’s infrastructure works a bit differently than what you might be used to. Learn about what makes WPVIP’s infrastructure special and the tools that enable you to interact with your application.

User access management

Different team members will require different user accounts and levels of access depending on their role and the type of work that they do. Learn how to provide team members with the accounts and levels of access that they need.

Developer resources

Every application on WPVIP is provided with its own wpcomvip GitHub repository. Additional tools such as the VIP Dashboard and VIP-CLI enable developers to manage applications and their environments, as well as access several types of Logs and Performance metrics.

Additional tools and references for developers:

Launch a site

Site launches require many steps, including content migration and DNS updates for domains. Once all of the preparation steps are complete, a site can be self-launched using tools built into the VIP Dashboard.

  • Identify slow queries

Slow queries are SQL database queries made by application code that take an unusually long time to execute. An increase in slow queries will reduce the efficiency and resiliency of an application’s database. A site with frequent slow queries might appear to operate well under normal amounts of traffic, but can perform poorly if the amount of traffic […]

  • Notification event types

Notifications for organizations and Notifications for applications can be configured for a variety of event types. Event types include detected performance metrics anomalies, the success or failure of code deployments, and vulnerabilities detected by Codebase Manager in the plugins deployed to an environment. Only one event type can be configured per Notification. Some event types allow […]

  • Performance metrics anomalies

Performance metrics anomalies are events that indicate a degradation in performance related to an environment’s object cache hit rate, slow queries, number of 5xx responses from the origin server, or the rate of 429 responses from the edge server—as measured against the known range of metrics for a performant application. Performance metrics anomalies are one of several […]

  • PHP sessions

WordPress VIP supports PHP sessions for storing short-lived, ephemeral session data. Session data is backed by Memcached to improve performance, but to ensure a site’s stability and scalability the performance of its underlying code should be optimized wherever possible. Sessions can be useful in certain scenarios but they also have performance implications that should be […]

WPVIP Support

If answers to your questions cannot be found in WPVIP’s documentation or in WordPress.org’s resources, the WPVIP Support team can help.

Request help in the WPVIP Support portal for technical issues, launch planning, and other questions related to your application. Support tickets that are created with relevant, detailed information about an issue help the Support team to more quickly understand the scope, nature, and context so that you can receive help as efficiently as possible.
