Synopsis for "Guilding Day"

On New Krypton, Kara Zor-El writes a posthumous letter to her father, Zor-El. Today is her birthday and it is the day that she must select a guild for herself.

Kara puts down her thoughts: it's been tough since her father died. Her mother cries every night, and Kara worries that she does something drastic to end her pain. She never displays her emotions in publich, though. Every day Alura gives her a list of errands to run. Kara has to help every Guild out, and wonders whether Alura is punishing her for failing to capture Reactron.

Nonetheless, Kara voluntereed to work with the Military Guild and find Superwoman's hideout. Supergirl and her cousin Kal-El who is leading a Red Shard contingent of the Kryptonian Military Guild break into the apartment of a Kandorian woman named Kryn Kel-Ur who hasn't been seen since Kandor was enlarged. As working together, Kara realizes her cousin agreed to move to Kandor and join the Military Guild to watch over General Zod closely.

As searching the apartment, Kara finds a strand of human hair which Kal confirm is Lucy's. Superman also reassures her cousin she isn't to blame for Lucy's death, and Kara wonders what happened to the Kryptonian who owns that apartment.

The night before her birthday she follows her mother when she listens to Alura leaving their home. She finds her mother visiting Zor-El's grave and finally confronts Alura over her errands' purpose and her coldness. Alura angrily explains she made sure that Kara met every Guild and found out about their workings and their pitfalls so she had the knowledge to choose which Guild is best for her. It's her birthday's gift. Kara mutters she doesn't understand her mother, and Alura replies that such is the fate of every mother and daughter.

Kara concludes her letter by apologizing to her father. She always thought she would become a member of the Artist Guild like him; instead, she feels she needs to understand her mother so she joins her mother's: the Kryptonian Science Guild.

Kara reminds her father she loves him and misses him, signs her letter and leaves for her Guilding ceremony.
