Quote1 Fear is strong. You think you are fearless. That I am so easily defeated. Let those who try to stop what's right, burn like my power - Sinestro's might! Quote2
— Sinestro src

Sinestro is the founder and leader of the Sinestro Corps.

Sinestro was once a powerful member of the Green Lantern Corps who used his power to enforce his will in the name of, what he believed to be, the greater good. Finding Sinestro cruel and oppressive, the Guardians on Oa stripped Sinestro of his rank and position in the Corps and exiling him. Sinestro soon found the power of Fear, which he claimed could easily shatter the Will powering the Green Lantern Corps. Forming his own Corps, the Sinestro Corps, Sinestro began to unleash the power of Fear on his enemies in the name of what he believed to be right.

Like the other Lantern Corps, the yellow rings of Sinestro and his followers began to fluctuate and fail. Believing the Green Lanterns to be responsible for this act of sabotage, the Sinestro Corps and their rivals began a full scale war in Metropolis, which concluded in a battle between Sinestro and John Stewart which concluded in both warriors escaping unharmed. Sometime later, these power failures resulted in Sinestro's ring being drained entirely- leaving him defenseless against the Justice Society of America, who captured him. Lex Luthor and Calculator ordered a team of Exobyte villains to hunt down and rescue the leader of the Sinestro Corps. Tracking him to a JSA Safehouse, the Exobyte Villains quickly defeated Hawkman and Hawkgirl before finding Alan Scott guarding Sinestro's captive body. The villains were able to overcome Scott and release Sinestro, who returned to the Sinestro Corps to recharge his ring.

Alternate Timeline

In the alternate timeline not saved from Brainiac by Lex Luthor's release of the Exobytes, the Sinestro Corps found themselves under siege by the robot's army on Korugar. The Green Lantern Corps blockaded the planet, hoping to contain both enemy groups, but instead it only allowed Brainiac to deal more damage to the isolated Sinestro Corps, before he eventually found and began to siphon power from the central battery on Korugar. Weakened and with most of his followers dead, Sinestro was forced to retreat with Hal Jordan, his old nemesis. While Hal attempted to protect them in space, Brainiac's robots attacked them again, and in the ensuing chaos Sinestro was killed and Hal was badly wounded.
