Synopsis for the 1st Story
In Central Colorado, a militia ordered by Odyssey hijacks and abducts a school bus of children. The next day Cole works out at "Snipe" Diehl's gym. Distraught over the losses in his life, he asks Snipe for advice on his future and how to deal with his past. Their conversation is interrupted by the Sheriff who is looking for Snipe's help in rescuing the children but Snipe turns him down and suggests Cole replace him.
The Sheriff and Cole find the school bus abandoned near a cliff. While they investigate, their combined presence sets off a bomb Odyssey hid. Both narrowly escape and return to the Sheriff's office where Cole's I/O contacts reveals Odyssey to be Former U.S. Army Lt. Col. Bo Thane of the Psych Corps, and that he and his followers have a compound hidden in the mountains.
Alone, Cole attacks the compound and takes down Odyssey's men. He finds Odyssey in an underground cave along with the missing children who have been brainwashed into becoming his soldiers. Faced with either killing the children or dying at their hands, Cole reflects on his earlier conversation with Snipe and choose neither. He shoots above their heads, jolting them out of their brainwashed state. He allows Odyssey to escape, prioritizing the children's safety and comfort as he brings them back home.
Later, back at the station, the Sheriff asks Cole why he decided to help them. Cole isn't able to give the Sheriff a clear answer before leaving.
