Death is the physical personification of the cosmic force of the same name. She is a member of the Endless, a dysfunctional family of seven siblings that represent different aspects of the universe. In the Pre-Crisis Multiverse, Death was usually depicted as a middle aged man or a skeleton, either in military garb or more traditional Grim Reaper style clothing.

Death takes on several different forms in the DC Universe. Death is often portrayed as a primordial entity or force of the universe. The Black is a force which is strongly associated with death, and acts as the enemy of all the life forces, such as The Green or The Red. Nekron is the Lord of the Unliving, a representation of death on the emotional electromagnetic spectrum who acts as leader of the Black Lantern Corps during Blackest Night and an antagonist to Green Lantern and the Life Entity.

Many gods that hold responsibility for 'death' or 'locations of afterlife' are often placed here through association; Azraeuz is the Apokoliptian god of death and a member of the Four Horsemen; The Black Racer represents death to the New Gods. H'ronmeer is the Martian god of death. Gods that originate from many of Earth's cultures are also present.

Black Flash is an entity created by the Speed Force and represents death to Speedsters and acts as an antagonist to the Flash Family.

DC's Death was first adapted in The Phantom Stranger #2 (1952). However, the character was later remodeled by Neil Gaiman and Mike Dringenberg, first appearing in Sandman (Volume 2) #8 (1989).
