English:

A long-eared rabbit with beige and tan fur crouches in tall green grass.

The preserve is on the eastern edge of jackrabbit habitat range. Sightings on the preserve hills have been rare since 2011. These hares prefer the open fields in western Kansas where they can race away from predators up to 40 mph.
