Description
English: Towboat "Captain Ben" at Falls Cities Riverboats.

. The triple-screw towboat "Captain Ben" (doc. # 251396, length 90 feet, width 21 feet, Cummins diesels, 900 hp), originally named "F. H. Johnston", was built in 1954 by Johnston Boat Co., Cincinnati, and owned by the builder. In 1984, the boat was sold to BB Riverboats, Covington, Ky., and in 1985 renamed "Captain Ben". BB Riverboats used the "Captain Ben" to push the excursion barge cards/Chrome-Funliner 2.jpg "Cincinnati-Covington Funliner". In 2000, the boat was sold and leased to Memphis Queen Co., Memphis, Tenn. The boat was renamed "Capt. J. T. Meanley" and the barge renamed "City of Memphis". According to the Coast Guard Vessel Documentation site, the boat's documentation expired in 2003. . Ohio River mile 603. Jeffersonville, Indiana. Mar. 1988. . file # 88c095. 35 mm Kodachrome.
