Though I'm more a fan of the early Columbo series (1960s preferably) this is thoroughly enjoyable, and clever as always. It is in fact, one of my favourite episodes of the much later series, and Faye Dunaway is excellent and very easy to watch. I'm not one to write long reviews but I did want to put forward my theory regarding the subtle lesbian subtext. I believe that this was very cleverly done to distract the viewers so that they would be led up a completely different path all the way through. As the twist at the end reveals that Faye Dunaway is, in fact, the other woman's mother, rather than her lover. So the viewer is left thinking all sorts of things, right up until the end.
