The prequel film we have all been waiting for is finally here and I am really happy to say that it is as brilliant and bombastic as the original film. Obviously, we are talking about Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the prequel to George Miller‘s 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road. Directed by Miller from a screenplay by Nico Lathouris and Miller, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga follows the story of a young Furiosa as she is taken from Green Place of Many Mothers and tries to survive in the wasteland while trying to get back home but the war between great biker horde’s warlord Dementus and Immortan Joe makes it harder. Replacing Charlize Theron from Fury Road, Anya Taylor-Joy takes over the role of Furiosa in the prequel film and it also stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Lachy Hulme, John Howard, Angus Sampson, and Nathan Jones. The 2000s were a great time for science fiction. Thanks to The Matrix closing out the 90s, studios were more willing to give the green light to stories about science gone awry, leading to favorites such as A.I. Artificial Intelligence and Paprika, as well as superhero hits like Spider-Man 2, X2, and Iron Man.

For a movie that fits firmly in the dystopian sci-fi genre, Alfonso Cuarón's 2006 film "Children of Men" makes for one of the most truly terrifying films ever. In a world where infertility has been the law of the land for eighteen years and resources have dwindled, humanity has turned on itself. It's like the grimmest of '70s science fiction films, only made by a master filmmaker at the peak of his powers. While it might have taken a tragedy for him to become committed to the film, his passion is evident in every frame.
More than anything out of the ordinary, the movie's vision of London looks distressingly normal, with office workers attending to business as usual despite chaos and bombings. As a television PSA seen early on notes, "Only Britain Soldiers On." The movie opens with the death of an 18-year-old, the world's youngest person. And things...

The movie, co-written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón, is based on Pd James’s 1992 novel The Children of Men.x
It is set in 2027, and imagines a world in which two decades of human infertility have left society on the brink of collapse.
Asylum seekers try to find safety in the UK, where they are subjected to detention or deportation by the government.
Clive Owen plays civil servant Theo Faron, who attempts to help refugee Kee (Clare-Hope Ashitey) escape the calamity.
Many viewers have been posting on social media about the parallels between the movie and real life.
“Just rewatching 2006 dystopian film Children of Men in which the UK is a police state and illegal immigrants are imprisoned (or executed) by the gov,” tweeted one fan.

This post contains spoilers for "Children of Men."
One of the greatest movie scenes of the 21st century comes early in the dystopian sci-fi masterpiece "Children of Men," as five characters pile into a car for what initially seems like a blissful ride. Though the near future they inhabit is beset by human infertility, all is going well as our protagonist, Theo (Clive Owen), wakes from a backseat nap and begins playing a game with the mother of his late child, Julian (Julianne Moore). She turns from the passenger's seat, and they blow a ping pong ball back and forth, laughing right up until the moment when a flaming car comes rolling downhill ahead of them, followed by a band of marauders, the Zeds.
What follows next is the kind of movie scene the phrase "tour de force" was invented for. As they took to the road in a modified Fiat Multipla,...

Alfonso Cuarón is the kind of auteur who is incredibly selective about projects he associates with. After the unexpected mainstream success of "Y tu mamá también," Cuarón was inundated with Hollywood screenplays, but the director was extremely wary of being sucked into the soulless aspects of the industry machine. So, when Cuarón received a screenplay for P.D. James' sci-fi dystopian novel "The Children of Men," he instantly recognized the merits of translating such a hard-hitting story into film, but was not completely sold on the appeal of its bleak, apocalyptic premise. After working on other projects, Cuarón and screenwriter Timothy J. Sexton circled back to the novel's screenplay, as they were finally ready to commit to bringing its realistic dystopia to life. The result was the brilliantly crafted "Children of Men," which serves as a timeless cautionary tale about the disintegration of human civilization.
Although critically lauded, "Children of Men" was a commercial failure,...

We are now only four years out from 2027, the year when Alfonso Cuarón's dystopian action thriller "Children of Men" is set. While there's no sign of endemic infertility (knock on wood), our own present is, unfortunately, not far off from the future the film presented.
In "Children of Men," world governments have started to break down as panic in the last generation takes hold — a shot showing flames and a marching mob in the streets of Washington D.C. is uncomfortably prescient. Only the United Kingdom "soldiers on," but it has become an authoritarian, nationalist state.
The streets are filled with trash and lined with cages housing refugees. The scariest part is how this world doesn't look like a distant future, but merely a worse version of the present. When our reluctant hero Theo Faron (Clive Owen) rides a commuting train, it resembles one you could take in England today.

Stars: Colm Meaney, Stephen Moyer, Clare-Hope Ashitey, Kris Johnson, Sadie Jean Shirley | Written and Directed by David Beton
Much of the pre-release discussion about Confession, (not to be confused with the 2020 serial killer film of the same name) centred on its stars Colm Meaney and Stephen Moyer. And although they both are excellent actors, that wasn’t why I decided to review it.
I was more interested in writer/director David Beton, Aka Ronnie Thompson. As Ronnie Thompson, he’d directed, but not written, the tense thriller Tower Block. And as David Beton, he’d co-written, but not directed, The Banishing, an enjoyable ghost story that also had significant religious content. I was curious to see what he could do filling both roles.
After a rather cryptic prologue, we join Father Peter (Meaney) as he’s wrapping up his duties for the evening. That’s interrupted by a knock on the door,...

This one is arriving in theaters + on VOD in the US starting in January, despite not picking up any buzz before this debut. One church, one priest, a wounded man and his loaded gun. Starring Stephen Moyer & Colm Meaney, with Clare-Hope Ashitey, Kris Johnson, and Sadie Jean Shirley. "Confession is a very suspenseful, thrilling ride with terrific performances from two always-dependable performers, Moyer and Meaney." This looks like an engaging battle of wits, as the three people inside this church confront and accuse each other back & forth to the end. It might be worth a watch. The series is described as an ensemble family drama set in a fine dining restaurant in Harlem. They join previously announced cast member Delroy Lindo, who will play Ellis Rice, the head chef at the restaurant at the heart of the series.

Sandra Bullock gives a powerhouse performance in Netflix's deftly directed film about pregnancy and parenthood at the end of the world.
While this era of #PeakContent may be overwhelming, it's also an incredible gift. It brings us movies like Netflix's Bird Box, an adaptation of the 2014 novel by Josh Malerman which in turn provides Danish director Susanne Bier (The Night Manager) and lead actor Sandra Bullock a chance to tell a different kind of genre survival story than we're used to seeing in the mainstream. A cross between Room and A Quiet Place, Bird Box follows mother Malorie (Bullock) as she works to keep her children alive in a world in which the human population has been decimated by an unseen supernatural force that preys on sight, sending those who see it into an urgently suicidal state.

Regina King can do no wrong. A favorite of the Television Academy with back-to-back-to-back Emmy nominations for John Ridley’s American Crime—an anthology series in which she played a different character every season—the actress is back in the running this year with Veena Sud’s Netflix drama Seven Seconds. But there is something different about this season. With the role of Latrice Butler, a Jersey City mother whose son is killed by the police, King finally made the jump to the arena of the Lead Actress.
Topical in its examination of police brutality and American race relations, Seven Seconds is a project that will always have great meaning for King, for what it so poignantly relates about deep-seated societal issues. “I feel like it’s something that will never leave me, just because the narrative still exists in our country. It’s not just a narrative, it’s...

The central image in Netflix series “Seven Seconds” is striking, iconic and, for showrunner Veena Sud, intimately familiar: the Statue of Liberty, with her back to New Jersey, stands in front of the Manhattan shoreline. Sud saw it every day as a single mom taking her son to the park in Jersey City’s Filippino neighborhood.
“Seven Seconds” is not only a worthy successor to Sud’s Seattle mystery procedural “The Killing,” which Netflix rescued when AMC let it go, but to David Simon’s influential “The Wire,” which explored the inner workings of Baltimore institutions. She only got one season to do it, which is why Netflix put “Seven Seconds” into Emmy contention as a Limited Series. In television, getting canceled is a harsher reality than not getting continued or extended; it’s a rejection, and Emmy nominations tend to come with a perception of ongoing success, not rejection.

I recently finished watching the first season of Seven Seconds on Netflix and I thought it was a great series with well-drawn out complex characters. It also carried a power message. If you haven't seen it yet, you really need to watch it.
I was looking forward to seeing what they would do with Season 2, but that's not going to happen. Netflix has canceled the series. I guess it's okay though, because the first season stands on its own and didn't leave audiences with a cliffhanger.
The series was created and executive produced by Veena Sud (The Killing), and the story centered on a white cop who accidentally hits and critically injures a black teenager. That tragic event causes a northeastern city to explode with racial tension, and there's an attempted to cover up the accident, and everything leads to the trial of the century.

“Seven Seconds” will not be getting a second season at Netflix.
Starring Regina King, Clare-Hope Ashitey with Russell Hornsby, Beau Knapp, Michael Mosley and David Lyons, the drama followed people involved in an investigation of the death of a young black boy, as well as the boy’s family. The ten-episode season debuted on the streaming service February 23.
“We loved working with Veena Sud, Regina King and the cast and crew of ‘Seven Seconds.’ Together they created a compelling, timely and relevant crime drama. The first season is a complete, stand-alone story that we are proud to feature on Netflix for years to come,” said Netflix VP of Originals Cindy Holland in a statement provided to TheWrap.
Though the show won’t be returning to the streaming service, Netflix isn’t abandoning it. An individual with knowledge tells TheWrap that the streaming service will likely submit the show for limited series Emmys consideration.
“Seven Seconds” was created by “The Killing” alum Veena Sud, who also served as executive producer alongside Gavin O’Connor, Lawrence Bender, Kevin Kelly Brown, Alex Reznik and Dan Nowak.

The first season is a complete, stand-alone story that we are proud to feature on Netflix for years to come.”
Written by Sud and starring Regina King, Seven Seconds chronicles tensions running high between African-American citizens and Caucasian police in Jersey City, where a teenage African-American boy is critically injured by a cop.

The Performer | Viola Davis
The Show | How to Get Away With Murder
The Episode | “Lahey v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania” (March 1, 2018)
The Performance | The first hour of ABC’s much-hyped crossover between Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder served up a whole slew of memorable moments. Olivia Pope and Annalise Keating’s long-awaited first meeting, for example. And their second meeting. And their third meeting, just to name a few.
But it was the crossover’s second hour — in which Annalise’s class-action lawsuit finally reached the U.S. Supreme Court — that left us awestruck, thanks in large part to Davis’ tour-de-force performance.

British actress Clare-Hope Ashitey is seated in Netflix's Hollywood offices, recalling the period during which she first read the script for Seven Seconds, the 10-episode series that began streaming on the platform last Friday. Dressed in a pale-peach dress and leopard-print heels – an ensemble that doesn’t meet her preferred standards of comfort – she looks almost relieved by the frankness of her own words. "Between Trump’s election and Brexit, there were all sorts of opinions coming out of the...

‘Seven Seconds’: Clare-Hope Ashitey on a Potential Season 2 and Getting Inspiration From Paul Newman
The 2018 version of Paul Newman in “The Verdict” may be Clare-Hope Ashitey in the new Netlfix drama “Seven Seconds.” At the very least, it was an inspiration for director Gavin O’Connor (“Warrior”), who told the show’s star to watch the 1982 film in preparation for her role as Kj Harper. “It was interesting to look at a film that was about a flawed person and how they dealt with a situation,” she told IndieWire during a recent press event.
In the dense Netflix crime drama created by “The Killing’s” Veena Sud, the character of Kj definitely has no shortage of flaws as a prosecutor whose determination to get justice for a black teenager is held back by her struggles with alcoholism as well as the chaos that is the American legal system. It’s a complicated character that demands a complicated depiction: “If you are watching a fairy tale,...
