This is my first book by Matt McGregor, and it didn't disappoint. The story is told in alternating points of view, mostly in Virginia, the wife of Richard Eastman, and James, an apprentice obsessed with his employer's wife. I really enjoyed seeing James's growing obsession through his chapters, and it was well done. His motives and the ending surrounding why James was obsessed were unexpected. The suspense was well-crafted, and I didn’t see the final twist coming at all. My only complaint is that I thought Virginia's big secret was a little underwhelming, considering all the other twists, drama, and suspense in the novel. All in all, I give it 4.5 stars out of 5. Well deserved!
